It would take too long to kill one person if it were 5 shot kill for the pistol. 4 shot kill is perfect, instead of making too overpowered like Halo 1.
The BR shoots at 2 rounds/second, but the Pistol would shoot at 3 rounds/second. So in 2 seconds, the BR can land 4 shots (1 kill) and in 2 seconds the Pistol can land 6 shots (over 1 kill), so the Pistol could kill faster than the BR, in the right hands.

I think this is a fantastic idea.

The MA5K has been a popular weapon of the HCE mapping/modding community. If Bungie has any sense at all, they will model their implementation of the MA5K off of what other fans have done, specifically the awesome model made by CMT.

Here's a pic of CMT's MA5K

The MA5K in action

Another version from H3T

I found the MA5K to be a great starting weapon on HCE maps when I played with it; moderately accurate, with enough power to kill at close/medium range and plenty of ammo. Didn't have a scope, though.

Now that is one sexy gun. I'd love to see it in Reach, with or without the BR and AR we have now.

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

I've wanted to use an MA5K since reading tFoR, and who doesn't want to use the M6D again, after all these years?

While I hope to see all Halo weapons and vehicles in this game's campaign, this is a sweet idea for multiplayer.

I agree to an extent... I wasn't that big of a fan of the pistol because it was functional at close range, too, Everyone used it ALL the time.

EDIT: Misread it, i thought you wanted a 3 shot headshot with the pistol. Yes, i agree with 5 head and 10 body. That seems fair.

I personally feel the opposite. In my opinion, in Reach's forge (if it has it), there should be every version of every weapon from every game. Yeah, yeah, not gonna happen, too complicated, w/e.

Oh yeah include every weapon for custom games and Forge, I'm just saying this is a great idea for matchmaking.

All I ask is that you don't try to capture me.

Weapon balancing is irrelevant in Singleplayer, so this idea would only be important in matchmaking. We could use whatever we wanted in campaign, it wouldn't matter to me. :P

If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

I liked the Halo 2 pistol. Doesn't do much damage but it fires quite fast and is not so bad at close range. Made for dual wielding, nice accuracy and if paired with a granade it was deadly.

  • 06.24.2009 11:29 AM PDT

To be totally honest, the Halo 2 pistol before the Autoupdate was awesome. It was fun, relatively powerful - but after the update, you had to shoot something i think 13 times to kill them without headshots, which means you'd have to pump a full clip into someone, reload, then shoot.

sigh.

Well there were only Battle Rifle prototypes on Reach, anyway. Methinks that, if it goes like you and I think and we play from the Battle of Reach all the way to Unyielding Heirophant, you might get the opportunity to pick up one for perhaps a single level and that'd be that.

I think splitting it down the middle helps canon and helps gameplay. I'm game.

Prototypes? Really? Is that from the books because it just doesnt make sense to me. I just can't seem to recall and I haven't gotten a chance to reread the novels in a long time. Johnson has a prototype of a Battle Rifle at Harvest quite a bit of time prior to the fall of Reach...

Although, in regards to the game itself, I guess I agree. I just want there to be a stark contrast between the weapons. Meaning one truly is only effective at short, at midrange, and at long range. Have differences between weapons fitting into those categories in a similar fashion to the way in which the Covie Sniper and the Human Sniper differ. It would add variety and more tactics while simultaneously keeping in the whole "rock, papper, scissors" concept of weaponry.

Then again, I still think one weapon, specifically the mid-range weapon, needs to be slightly overpowered and the starting weapon, but take some level of skill to use. It just makes sense. It allows you to defend yourself off of the spawn and makes power weapons actually powerful by fitting them into certain niches that require their use.

The current Assualt Rifle is just too easy to use and shoots too far in some cases while not enough in others while dealing too much damage to be considered a fair starting weapon. The Battle on the other hand is flawed due to a randomized element that cant be controlled and that pisses me off to no end.

To explain the Assualt Rifle Better...it is too powerful at mid-close range for how easy it is to use. It also outkills the Battle Rifle at midrange in some cases which doesnt make sense considering the Battle Rifle is designed for midrange. There should be a better hierarchy there. But the Assualt Rifle sucks at defending from Long range which is awful off of the spawn. The Battle Rifle defends from everything making it ideal with the exception of that randomized element that inevitably screws you over now and then.

Just my opinion on the matter.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I'm all for removal of the BR and splitting it's function back into two weapons. As it stands (Halo3) the BR has the most utility out of every weapon, streamlining gameplay and making things a whole lot easier than they need to be. In terms of a spawn weapon it is terrible as it offers a distinct advantage for those who prefer it over those that don't.

At least with a modified rifle (akin to that of the Halo2 E3 Demo) or similar to what the OP suggested, you place the necessity for actual skill behind a weapon. In regards to a new pistol, i'm fine with a scoped, HP pistol making a come back, however the pistol needs to be handled practically, meaning even though it has a good max range, doesn't necessarily mean it's accurate at that range.

Overall a good idea, that could make for a much needed change in the monotony that was brought about by the BR.

idk about a pistol maybe like modded smg or a new non dual wield smg like a p90 or ak74 style small body short range

and how!

What you suggested, except to give a reason for the M6D not being dual wieldable it should be the M6J, the carbine variant of the M6D [it has a stock]

I don't really think it would need a reason (the Needler didn't need one in Halo 3), and I would rather just have dual wielding removed altogether, and any DW weapons that remain as SW ones would just get damage increases like the Pistol and Needler (PR and PP more like they were in H1, Spiker more like the version in Halo LANDFALL, etc.)

  • 06.24.2009 2:07 PM PDT

Halo 2 is the best game EVER made.

This is my favorite weapon idea yet.

It sounds more like Halo 1 yet not so overpowered. I think Bungie should really put this idea under consideration.

I kinda like the whole PR/SMG combo quite deadly at close range. Only thing that can beat this are the grenade/weapon combination or a shotgun/sword/rocket.

I dunno, I like the BR, keeps the realism that rifles should act like rifles and pistols like pistols

It would seem that weapons are grouped together specifically because nobody will pick them up as a single weapon, and any time one does so, it's just to pick up another one. Two spikers, two plasma rifles; they're rarely alone. Making them as powerful as "two" would be much better.

Sure, realism is nice but we are talking about a game here.

As far as game play goes realism just doesn't make things fun and balanced on Halo.

If that were necessary then we could always go with this:

BR55
36 rounds/magazine
9 rounds/second ROF
30 bodyshots/15 headshots to kill
max. effective range: 80 meters (3-round burst), 40 meters (rapid rire)
max. range: 120 meters (bullet disappears)
2x scope

Simply the BR modified to Cheewawa's M6D concept, although I would like the pistol idea better.

Whilst everyone is talking about either using the pistol or the battle rifle, why not just put both in? In all honesty, having the Halo 1 pistol and the Halo 3 pistol in Reach would pretty much be the same as the SMG and the AR in H3. In the sense that the SMG is slightly more powerfull and the AR has a slightly better range/accuracy. So thats what I say, don't get rid of the BR, OR CHANGE IT (emphasis on that) and put the new AR and the old pistol in Reach, maybe being the same as the Halo 3 Matchmade TS game-type (as in you start with an AS and a pistol ((so in Reach you would start with both an you could still pick up a BR if your personal preferance deems it so)).
