Well sawnose, I was wondering, would the F3 feature in CE (as in names above your teams heads) be easily imported into PC? Surely it would use a similar code to that used when your crosshair goes over a player and their name appears, only this would be on all the time (or not at all dependin on how many times u pressed F3 lol) I'm all for these mini-version updates that will protect our clients etc. but we do need a bit more function from em lol
I mean, you're a programmer arent you? Maybe you could make an unofficial clientside mod, that mods the green arrows to include said name code, and put on here for maw members only? lol although that may be against company policy ;)...I'm sure revealing the details on how to produce such an improvement (call it that not mod, sounds better ;) ) Is not an infringement lol, is just another way to broaden our gaming experience ^_^ ta if u even read this O_o

Don't think we are ungratefull. This hotfix shows that Bungie/Gearbox has not completly abandoned the Pc version but we are a bit annoyed (to say the least) for how much support the Pc gets compared to xbox.Just look at the new map pack or what does it say on bungie frontpage? Halo 2 (ie xbox) mostly. And Halo Pc does have some stringent issues which could be fixed- just look at The_Mard's post on second page. Just don't assume that we are ungrateful just becouse we think that more could be done.

"Um, they really arnt doing anything for halo pc." If they didn't do anything for Halo PC (IE release 1.07) not a single dedicated server would be up, and the non-deds would not last very long.

sawnose Could you email gearbox that. Perhaps due to some miscommunication they believe they can not do that. That one email could make a world of difference for both PC, and CE.

The lag got worse. Thanks Gearbox/Bungle/Micro$oft for this useless hotfix that did nothing but add to the lag! If you really cared so much, you would get some people to fix the -blam!- netcode so this game can be playable.

Heyyo,

Odie, sure, being able to play is nice, but being forced to play a jaded game? that's a different story. We're screwed to horrible clientside prediction, uber weapon balance problems, and a better anti-tker/afk system. Those are just the main problems. There's plenty more. My first clan, a Halo clan, no longer plays HaloPC. Why? it pisses them off more than gives fun. It's the same for me now. I always see people with the fuel rod guns. A fellow pistoler is a rare thing, especially a good one at that. Everyone's also against the convenant weapons.. wth I say, cause they are darn fun.

Lack of care and true support is ruining HaloPC. So odie, we say, "what's the use of security hotfixes if the core of the product is bugged?"

Another thing I don't understand about the predicament is Bungie owns the rights to Halo, gearbox is only there due to a contract. Why the hell do you have literally no control over your own product?? why not just tell gearbox "hey, and the source code over, we're gonna do improve the game since you guys won't do jack squat." or is there too much 'legalities' to deal with to actually try n' improve the game?

Btw, BIA... gearbox should come back to HaloPC, lol, bia wasn't that great, mp with only like, 4-6 buds is very limiting.. although fun for a bit... very limiting. I doupt it'll become more than just a good rump for a month or two. I think the best thing gearbox has done was help work on Half Life 1 since that game turned out to be darn good.. mainly cause like, valve patched it n' constantly improved it, NOT gearbox.. gearbox helped build the core, and then valve took over the patching. They had the right idea.. Bungie should learn from this.

guess what? we already got new maps for halo PC. 6 new ones from the xbox version when PC came out. Halo 2 is just getting the same treatment.

Are you saying that servers with 1.06 won't be up? The little message in halo pc said that 1.07 clients could play on 1.06 servers.

<=1.06 are vulnerable to the exploit, so if anyone in the community gets a hold of it (god forbid) then 1.06 servers won't be up long...

Heyyo,

Technically vec, it's not lag. It's horrible clientside prediction. That's all our game does when we play, try to predict what's going on around us, and with us, and sends/receives info from the server. Now, this really needs fixing. I have a hunch we might be able to just tune it like CSS. Might make it a bit better, but probably not a world of difference... anywho, I'll try. But yeah, people tend to mix bad netcode with lag since the 2 resemble the same idea, but the words represent different situations.

I'm sort of miffed that we haven't seen a map pack coming out for HPC. I realize halo CE has sort of replaced the need for this, but i find that halo ce maps lag more and tend to have shoddier graphics than HPC maps. Also, because hardly anyone plays on the same maps for HCE, it is hard to find a server with a good ping and enough people on it to create a good experience. With an autoupdate map release, everyone would have these maps and you wouldnt have to worry about only having 2 servers to choose from when you want to play on a certian map.

Miffed? Shoddy? Allow me to make an inference here, if you will.... You're from the UK, eh? Realize that there are usually no more than a couple of dozen servers on CE at a time, and only half of those are actually dedicated. That brings you down to 12 potentially High-Quality servers. Now, factor in that the US more than likely has the majority of players and servers, and couple that to the fact that as the physical distance between the player and the server increases, the latency in their connection increases also, and you've got yourself a possible explanation for why CE runs slower for you.

CE is improved. It is less laggy on the whole. The situation it is currently in is its only handicap.

The sad thing is that we stay here -blam!-ing about how Bungie/Gearbox doesn't patch Halo or nearly no attention goes to it (except for the "essential" hotfix once every 2 years or so) or how CE lacks the community.Let's face it although Ce we can help it is mostly beyound our powers to make somebody patch Halo. Bungie is now almost 100% into Halo 2 and xbox (at least from what it's saying) and it's going to take a miracle to change this. I see only one way out- Halo 2 Pc- but we don't even know if it's going to come out.And don't forget that microsoft will want to "milk" xbox as much as it can.

I know you said at the beginning that lag was just a coincidence but I'm not sure that's the case with me. I generally have a 100-120 ping and it never got worse during the 1.06 patch. I just patched Halo with 1.07 and now my ping rarely drops below 500! This really sucks bad. Has anyone else had this problem? If this doesn't change I'm not sure I will even be able to play online anymore. I had a ping of 260-315 with dial-up. Now I have DSL. 500+ is absolutely unacceptable!

I really find it hard to believe that although we are told that all the people involved care about HALO they do little to NOTHING to fix the issues. All involved reconize it, but allow it to continue fester. Sawnose I understand your point but this is realy just plain stupid how we, lovers of HALO, just get royally screwed at the end of the day. I don't expect GBX or Bungie to tinker with it all day and all night but when you have your fan base saying "hey! we need a fix here".. Do companies now need record breaking numbers to do fix a game anymore? We need a fix and our loyalty has proved that we love the game & want to see it improve.. Sad thing... our words always go unheard..

Mr B, what makes you think things such as a proper tk system is harder to impliment than others? Such as that afk kick you keep going on about....it's not going to be done. Enjoy Halo for what it is, and just stop moaning about the company "not giving a damn" about it. You seem to say it on so many of your posts. It's easy to sit back and criticise, but you're not at the helm here so you can't know what really goes on. Have you had any proper, hard experience in this field? If so...you wouldn't constantly be a critic to things you think you know about.

I know since this is an official thread you think it's an opportunity to get something across, and you're letting it all out...but a rule of thumb goes for most forums...and it goes with saying that the people who visit and post are either on their lunch break at work or just generally have something to moan about :) Rarely do they have something constructive to contribute, and we all know where most of the people would rather be. You need to appreciate more and just be glad that you're not paying a monthly fee for something you apparently don't like half the time.
