The soul knows no death.
I am an Eagle Scout.

Let me first say that I will be buying ODST. On to my point. Bungie has recently confirmed the $60 price tag of ODST. This has come as a surprise and a disappointment to many a fan. Let me also say I was one of the disgruntled fans of this price tag, but it was not without warrant. Months ago Bungie also announced that ODST would be a value priced "expansion", this is the real reason I am annoyed with the price. While none of us fans have played the full game yet, I am not going to decide whether the price is fair at this time. But I will still stick to the fact that Bungie mislead us gamers.

The number one most important thing in the sales industry is trust. After three fantastic games in the Halo series, we as a community have grown to trust Bungie and believe that they value us. That is why it kills me that they would change this game from a "value oriented" title to a full blown game priced at $60. I know that a person's or company's word means very little now days, which is a real shame. Nothing takes a hand shake to settle anymore, it's got to be in the writing of a contract, which Bungie almost gave us. I also know that Micro$oft has a very large amount of say when it comes to pricing, but I had hoped that Bungie would stay true and deliver for us. Maybe this was an unavoidable occurrence, but I am still disappointed.

With that said, what do you guys think of what I have said? Are you disappointed like I am, that Bungie is not coming through for us on their earlier statement? Thanks for reading.

Sadly, it's not up to Bungie as to how expensive the game is to customers. A similar incident occured with Valve, where they tried to release free "DLC" for Team Fortress 2 on the Xbox. Microsoft made the items cost money, so Valve are holding it back until they have enough to warrant the price.

Anyway, it's £30 in the UK, which is a very cheap new game. It's odd it costs more in the US, what with shipping and all.

If ODST is as good as it looks I'm fine with paying $60 for it.

For the 452nd time, why is it that other companies are able to give stuff away for free? Valve, L4D, Survival pack? Why also was RARE able to release their latest Banjo game for $40? Just two examples.

Honestly at first i felt annoyed just like you pretty much for the same reasons but, odst looks like it has a very fun campaign mode and i know that i can play firefight for a long time with friends before i get bored. Also we get a beta for halo reach which is awesome also we get a halo 3 multiplayer disk that has all of the maps and three new ones i think that is awesome because i only bought the first 2 maps and don't really feel like buying the third, I think that 60 dollars isn't a bad price come on scop3d you cant tell me that you will get bored of it fast i mean it has a free roam 4 player story mode and even better fire fight i loved horde mode in gears 2 and it kept me on gears 2 for awhile i honestly think that when you get odst it will be so fun that you forget about the price : )

I agree that ODST does at least so far, look to be a quality title. But, with that said it is only a campaign with one game mode. We all know how Strategic Options went over for Halo Wars and it was only $10. Also, for a guy like me who has all the Halo 3 map packs, I seem to be paying quite a bit for three new maps a campaign and a game mode.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

It's a Halo title, of course Micro$oft wants to make millions on it. Bungie might not want it to be expensive, but pricing all goes down to M$.

It seems to me that Bungie, because of their huge stuffing of M$ wallet, that they would be able to haggle for price. Halo is a console seller, I know at least 30 people who have bought 360's for Halo 3 alone. That's in my small circle of gamer friends. All of them have continued to buy other xbox games. I also know the breakdown of a game as far as profits go, but this is after all an expansion. Thus I doubt they have been working on this game for more then two years. If it is absolutely true that M$ could not be moved on their pricing, maybe it's time I forget about gaming.

well ya i do get what your saying in a way it seems to be a little unfair but i think that the campaign should be long enough and you never know they might add some other new things that bungie just doesn't want to talk about at the moment(i mean new things added to odst's campaign) also firefight looks like it is something that you can play for a very long time and the halo reach beta looks really promising. I feel your pain and i don't blame you for feeling the way you do but im sure bungie knows what they are doing and that odst will definitely be worth the full price.

  • 06.24.2009 1:11 PM PDT

The reason people are so disgruntled is because they still have it stuck in their tiny heads that this is just an expansion. Bungie has repeatedly stated that ODST has been expanded into a full blown standalone game. It's worth $60. Complainers should either STFU or get a job.

Well then, I don't know what kind of piano fell on you today, but you don't have to be such a -blam!-. Maybe we have it in our heads because Bungie told us it was an expansion. I have an opinion, I am choosing to voice it, firstly, I have a job. Secondly, while I may be complaining, I have some valid points. Thirdly, those of you who are willing to be like lemmings and follow anyone who holds chocolate in front of you have no idea. You are a part of that group, Feakz001

Honestly I don't feel like a lemming, although my hair just suddenly turned green and I feel compelled to walk off a cliff unless someone gives me a job soon...

On topic though, the game's content was more than Bungie initally thought they were going to release, hence the price changing.

seriously. SHUT UP about the price. I don`t care if you like it or hate it, make something we haven`t heard already.

Then perhaps they should keep their mouths shut when it comes to pricing... or at least wait until Microsoft opens theirs.

Well I see a little thing that Microsoft is doing behind in it. Let's not forget there are people who have absolutly refused to buy/purchase map packs unless they are free. I think the reason why M$ is doing this so that that they can also get money for the map packs in the other disk.

I think that's a possibilty as to why it was raised. So that in a way M$ could get people to buy the Halo 3 map packs.

I'm not disappointed in any way. Why? Because Halo 3: ODST will be a pretty tight game and if the 2nd disc is halo 3 matchmaking etc. with ALL the map packs, I see that more than a $60 game so be glad its only $60.

Which is why I absolutely don't understand why those of us who have already bought all the maps are required to pay for the maps again, if that is the case. My key point is that the PR man for Bungie messed up. Don't make a promise you won't or can't hold, because there are people who will look back and frown.

Tibetz, the world don't owe you nothin', get rid of that chip on your shoulder and open your mind. Why is it that so many people out there that think they are entitled to flame?

Rule 6: Respect the Admins

“It’s their website, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. You’re a guest, and hassling them about how they run things is akin to going round your Auntie’s house and curling one out in her tea-pot.”

It is a full f****** stand alone game! It is called an expantion for the fact that it shares a mulitplayer with halo 3 and no other reason.

If it had no multiplayer, it would be named Halo: ODST and gotten the normal price any ways.

I'm tired of the threads where people whine and complain "OMG I have to pay the normal price for a video game. It is the same price as every other game, that's so unfair".

A retard on a d*** tricycle could get that through their head.

The best thing to do is buy odst then get all the achievements really fast then return it back to the shop.
There aren't any codes so you should get the full refund or close.

does anyone know what disc the beta is going to be on?

Well, it's Microsoft who sets the price, not Bungie. And from what it looks like they are holding to their promise and more of it because they are adding more to the game just that Microsoft says that it should be a full price game. And it probably is, I mean look at the success of Assassins creed and it dosen't even have game modes other then just story. Sure it's not an FPS but still.

I so agree

  • 06.24.2009 2:14 PM PDT

Not really.
I can understand how it will be notched as a full game.
Think about it.

Halo 3: ODST itself comes with:
Brand new campaign that's now expanded to bigger than anything Bungie had originally hoped for a 1 year project, FireFight multiplayer mode, Theatre, and an invitation to the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta.

On top of that, you're receiving every single Halo 3 map, which includes the three brand new Mythic maps (Heretic, Longshore, and Citadel), and the Halo 3 multiplayer experience.

That's basically the same number of features that Halo 3 itself came with, replacing Forge mode with Firefight, but adding 4 map packs (totaling $40, if bought online via XBM).

It's perfectly understandable, and I really don't see much a problem with this.
