Let me first say that I will be buying ODST. On to my point. Bungie has recently confirmed the $60 price tag of ODST. This has come as a surprise and a disappointment to many a fan. Let me also say I was one of the disgruntled fans of this price tag, but it was not without warrant. Months ago Bungie also announced that ODST would be a value priced "expansion", this is the real reason I am annoyed with the price. While none of us fans have played the full game yet, I am not going to decide whether the price is fair at this time. But I will still stick to the fact that Bungie mislead us gamers.

The number one most important thing in the sales industry is trust. After three fantastic games in the Halo series, we as a community have grown to trust Bungie and believe that they value us. That is why it kills me that they would change this game from a "value oriented" title to a full blown game priced at $60

Normal game price is around 50$ without tax, so 60$ is more than full price, but I'm still going to buy it.

For the 452nd time, why is it that other companies are able to give stuff away for free? Valve, L4D, Survival pack? Why also was RARE able to release their latest Banjo game for $40? Just two examples.

Again, Microsoft makes the decision, there was an issue with Valve a while back when they wanted to release free DLC for I think it was Team Fortress, but were not able to do so over Xbox Live due to Miscrofost.

BUNGIE BUNGIE BUNGIE BUNGIE...

i thought 60 dollars is a regular price

The guy that plays Halo 3 to kick ass(es)

We all know that Microsoft put the price, but for all the fa-gs that are saying that they do not care about the price, if is a DLC or not, you a$$holes parents pay for your videogames, isn't?
I was really excited for ODST, but my budget is not a big as many of the parents of Bungie's fanbase; so I pay for my XBox stuff. Maybe I will just rent it for five days and save $55 dollars, as many of you pigs( fanboys) should do, or work to buy it.

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

I'm sorry to break this to y'all, but the world doesn't revolve around you. The people at Microsoft and Bungie need to make a profit, and in case you haven't noticed, times are pretty tough, and these games are their only source of income.

Wow, and the award for a-hole of the post goes to you friend. How does preference or method of procurement make anything that your saying about people valid? Quit being a dick, FYI I have a job, have since I was in highschool. I've also been paying for things since I was 11, when my parents split up and reality hit me and my three sisters in the face like a brick. Now you have a little info on one of the people your insulting needlessly. If you don't want it fine, that's your decision, but don't flame those that do just because you disagree with the price point.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

If ODST is as good as it looks I'm fine with paying $60 for it.

Look man it isn't just about you paying for it any more. Firefight does not have matchmaking. I am the only "Halo" fan of all my friends. IE I am the only one who visits the forums etc. All the kids I know "casually" play Halo. They aren't interested in paying $60 for 1 Campaign.

So now Firefight is useless. Without matchmaking this game needs the $40 price so Firefight is useful.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

And to back up SweetTrix a little....

Wow, rash generalizations over the internet of unseen and unknown people. Someone has some issues. There are far more older people in this community than you realize. I'm 24 and I pay for my own -blam!- and have for a very long time. My hard earned money will go to this game and I have no qualms about paying the 60 bucks. Your generalizations make you look like the child in this discussion. Congratulations on sounding less mature than the "children" your bashing.

Why was bungie able to release Cold Storage for free? They made a deal with MICROSOFT to do it. Why do some games come out less expensive then others? They arent as hyped as certain games like Halo 3:ODST are, so MICROSOFT doesnt make you pay as much for them.

Keyword there? MICROSOFT. You dont like the price tag, go complain to them, not Bungie,

  • 06.24.2009 10:53 PM PDT

Yes I agree with everything you said, but you gotta look at a different way. For one thing bungie never confirmed it was going to be the oriented price. They said it might be. Second, you gotta note how much there giving with it. There giving a firefight which is very awesome since there wasn't going to be multiplayer at all so at least there giving that to us. And there also giving us a invitation to halo: reach beta which is very well awesome. I'd hate to have to wait until fall next year. So at least I'll be playing reach a little bit. So just for that we should thank bungie. So we might as well pay more, plus they might need the money to make reach and if you love halo as much as I do. I'd happily contribute money to bungie.

Iam enjoying Halo Reach and revisiting some past Bungie games, iam a big fan of Bungie and their online community.

Sadly, it's not up to Bungie as to how expensive the game is to customers. A similar incident occured with Valve, where they tried to release free "DLC" for Team Fortress 2 on the Xbox. Microsoft made the items cost money, so Valve are holding it back until they have enough to warrant the price.

Anyway, it's £30 in the UK, which is a very cheap new game. It's odd it costs more in the US, what with shipping and all.

I guess bungie also need the money so they can carry on producing gammes.

The soul knows no death.
I am an Eagle Scout.

What it all comes down to, my main point which everything else was branched off of, was that Bungie made a MISTAKE to say that ODST was a value oriented title. Obviously $60 is not value oriented. As of now, I doubt very seriously that a campaign, firefight, and three maps are worth $60. But, the fact that they are throwing in the Halo 3 multiplayer is the reason it costs so much. It annoys me when anyone goes back on their word.

That is what I wanted to get across. If none of you can understand this point, I'm better off elsewhere.

Beacause the survival pack is;

just one map free (like cold storage)
Extension on horde mechanics (you can make your own gametypes)

L4D comapres badly to halo 3 as this example

We get your point, it's just that it's ridiculous. No one gave their word. Bungie stated that they believe it will be a value title like an expansion. I see no promises, only assumptions made before the new year even rolled around. Things change.

I also dont believe Halo 3 multiplayer disc being the reason it's 60 bucks, but that's a matter of opinion where as the fact that Bungie never gave their word is just that, fact.

Your gripe is that of personal misunderstanding, nothing was promised, ever. They have not done that since they had to change the Halo2 release date 3 times. They mentioned what they hoped for the title, that was it. Considering that the ODST you will be buying is no longer just a campaign expansion, it is understandable that there was a price increase.

It's fine to have a personal issue with it, but don't make it out to look like Bungie went back on their word.

I know that a person's or company's word means very little now days, which is a real shame. Nothing takes a hand shake to settle anymore, it's got to be in the writing of a contract, which Bungie almost gave us. I also know that Micro$oft has a very large amount of say when it comes to pricing, but I had hoped that Bungie would stay true and deliver for us. Maybe this was an unavoidable occurrence, but I am still disappointed.

With that said, what do you guys think of what I have said? Are you disappointed like I am, that Bungie is not coming through for us on their earlier statement? Thanks for reading.

Micro$oft (I see what u did there)

why don't we give you money and buy it for us that way we can has more money to buy new firefight dlc.

Being an Elite is its own reward.

Microsoft decides the price, not Bungie.

Oh, and with the inclusion of Firefight, the maps, the new campaign, and Halo 3's multiplayer, ODST is definitely worth $60, so stop whining.

The problem here is that what you are purporting Bungie to have said, is not what Bungie actually said. You are better off elsewhere, as you are continually altering your quotation of them to prove a false point.

Despite what people have actively told you, you continue to point the finger at Bungie. Bungie never promised or even implied that the game would be priced lower than a normal retail value of $59.99. They said that they didn't view it as a full-retail price game, and that is all. If you somehow misconstrued that as a "promise", then you need to learn some comprehension skills.

It is common knowledge that Bungie has no rights to the Halo franchise anymore, and with that loss of rights comes the loss of say in the pricing. So no, no negotiations, no haggling, no nothing. They get paid for making the game and that is that.
