The halo population is literally split down the middle. Hardcore gamers on one side and Casual gamers on the other. Their is really a big problem. How do you please both sides? I have thought of one Idea. Hardcore gamers want to play competitively, while casual players just want to have fun. My idea is give both side exactly what they want. Matchmaking will be for the Hardcore audience only. Then there will be another feature for everyone but mostly to remove the casual players from competitive matchmaking. I'm talking about a custom game list. This has been asked for before and denied by Bungie but at this point the longevity of Halo depends on it. In order to keep both audiences happy something needs to be done.
Ranked matchmaking would have decreased auto-aim and melee lunge, require precision to succeed. The ranking system would be that of Halo 2's but with a global experience rank like in Halo 3 showing how many wins you have. Playlist would cover everything needed. FFA, Team Slayer, Skirmish, a Hardcore playlist, bigteam battle and then some other specialized playlist depending on how Halo Reach plays. It would only be for the Hardcore players who need to play with a challenge.
Then we would have the custom games list. When you make a custom game you have an option to add it to the list. On the list games would be labeled with several things including but not limited to: a one sentence summary so you can post if it is a special gametype like "cops and robbers" or "tremors" and if it follows a special set of rules like MLG, the gametype, current map, map packs required, number of people and probably the most important thing if auto-aim is increases or decreased. The auto-aim indicator is the best way to tell if the game is for casual or hardcore layers. It would be up to the game host to insure the games special rules are followed and too keep people who are over skilled out of their casual games.
I think this is one of the only ways to keep both of the sides to the Halo fanbase. If the Reach follows the current trend of getting more casual then fans will be lost but the same will happen if the game is too hardcore. How do you guys feel?
