The halo population is literally split down the middle. Hardcore gamers on one side and Casual gamers on the other. Their is really a big problem. How do you please both sides? I have thought of one Idea. Hardcore gamers want to play competitively, while casual players just want to have fun. My idea is give both side exactly what they want. Matchmaking will be for the Hardcore audience only. Then there will be another feature for everyone but mostly to remove the casual players from competitive matchmaking. I'm talking about a custom game list. This has been asked for before and denied by Bungie but at this point the longevity of Halo depends on it. In order to keep both audiences happy something needs to be done.

Ranked matchmaking would have decreased auto-aim and melee lunge, require precision to succeed. The ranking system would be that of Halo 2's but with a global experience rank like in Halo 3 showing how many wins you have. Playlist would cover everything needed. FFA, Team Slayer, Skirmish, a Hardcore playlist, bigteam battle and then some other specialized playlist depending on how Halo Reach plays. It would only be for the Hardcore players who need to play with a challenge.

Then we would have the custom games list. When you make a custom game you have an option to add it to the list. On the list games would be labeled with several things including but not limited to: a one sentence summary so you can post if it is a special gametype like "cops and robbers" or "tremors" and if it follows a special set of rules like MLG, the gametype, current map, map packs required, number of people and probably the most important thing if auto-aim is increases or decreased. The auto-aim indicator is the best way to tell if the game is for casual or hardcore layers. It would be up to the game host to insure the games special rules are followed and too keep people who are over skilled out of their casual games.

I think this is one of the only ways to keep both of the sides to the Halo fanbase. If the Reach follows the current trend of getting more casual then fans will be lost but the same will happen if the game is too hardcore. How do you guys feel?

THANKS!!!! But I read your post and it sounds like a good idea but the reason why Bungie refuses to put the CGS is because it would take too many players away from Matchmaking decreasing the chances of finding a game when searching for one.

Yes but matchmaking would be designed for only hardcore players so matchmaking wouldn't need a large population. Halo 2 still has a decent fanbase of harcore players and they would be remain loyal to Halo Reach. Halo Reach should be designed for most of the players to play custom games.

Edit: I bet this system would probably convert many casual players to a more hardcore play style.

I understand what your saying but Bungie would most likely not listen to a word your say 1 thing the could do though would be to implement this system and if it does not work out they could revert back to old ways.

Or, it would be a waste of time.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

MM should not just cater to the "hardcore". So I say no, this is not a good idea if it's mainly for that reason. A custom game search might be though.

Pretty good idea but maybe asking a bit too much. I think Bungie will just keep the Ranked and Social and other categories because i think that works kinda ok. I mean If your good ull carry ur team if they are bad casual players and if your not oh well its just the luck of being on a good or bad team. But Im sure since bungie is creating a new game with all the same cocepts, they look into improving this problem like they try to improve all the other ones.

Nope. Gamers have to there freedom of doing what they won't I enjoy both. I play competitively sometimes but I also like to lay low and be casual at times.

Why play matchmaking if your into a hardcore experience? Thats what the Custom Game List is for.
