Subject: Halo 3 ODST : Breaking Microsoft's Achievement Policy?

As you know, in Halo 3 ODST, it comes with a second disc. The Multiplayer Disc.

What would happen if one earned NORMAL HALO 3 Multiplayer achievements in disc 2 of halo 3 odst?

Such as becoming a Spartan Officer, or getting achievements like "Moongoose Mowdown" ?
Would it be possible to earn Microsoft points by earning Halo 3 mulitplayer achievements in Halo 3 ODST?

The answer is YES. What does this mean? By purchasing Halo 3, you can earn MORE THAN 1000 MICROSOFT POINTS, which is in direct violation of Microsoft's Achievement Policy.

1. All regular disc-based games MUST have 1,000 Gamerscore in the base game. This means that any consumer who buys a retail game will have the opportunity to unlock the full 1,000 Gamerscore without having to pay for any add-on content. Note that a publisher may decide to deliver a portion of this Gamerscore via add-on content, but the add-on content will always be free to the consumer.

2. Game publishers will have the option to deliver another 250 incremental Gamerscore on top of the 1,000 via add-on content from Marketplace. This add-on content could be either free or paid. So if you complete a game and earn the full 1,000 GS, you could by getting new add-on content earn up to a total of 1,250 points from a game.

3. Xbox Live Arcade games will operate in similar fashion, but given the size of these titles they will allow you to earn up to 200 Gamerscore from every game and up to another 50 points from add-on content.

Which includes halo3 campaign points, which isn't in Halo 3 ODST

In Halo 3 ODST you can earn around 1300G i'd calculate.

Check out this thread if you'd like to use your custom character in Co-Op. http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13792191

Fallout 3 has 1450G at the moment. It'll go up at least another 100G next month too. Lots of games are doing this now. It's pretty common actually.

well first, gamerscore and microsoft points are two seperate things. microsoft points are used to buy games, game add ons, dashboard themes and pictures, etc. gamerscore is simply the total achievement points unlocked.

second, who really cares? its gamerscore.... oh no, stop the presses! also as someone mentioned, halo 3 had 1750 G.

The rules you stated are no longer valid as many games are already over 1250GS. Here is a link that explains the current rules better http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news-1178-The-Current-Achi evement-Rules-Explained.html

Rule 6: Respect the Admins

“It’s their website, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. You’re a guest, and hassling them about how they run things is akin to going round your Auntie’s house and curling one out in her tea-pot.”

It is more then 1000, so you've just wasted precious time of your life that you will never get back.

According to the "newly updated rules" , we have two situations:
1. Bungie agreed to have no DLC (with achievements) for a full year.
2. 750 of the total 1750 is Halo 3 Multiplayer achievements.
Pick and choose. Perhaps Urk will enlighten us in a Weekly Update? Peace.

no ur wrong about this. ODST will have its own seperate disc for its game in which you an earn 1000 points for ODST in the ODST campaign. The second disc is the halo 3 multiplayer only it is essentially halo 3 without the campaign.

I hope not, so much better stuff he could talk about.

I see what he is saying. He's saying that since the second disc contains the exact same Halo 3 multiplayer, those who have not played Halo 3 yet will be able to earn Halo 3:ODST's achievements, and then the multiplayer achievements from Halo 3 ontop of that (which is a considerable amount of GS)

Iam enjoying Halo Reach and revisiting some past Bungie games, iam a big fan of Bungie and their online community.

You have wasted your time with this apeal.

Get owned.

Wow who gives a poop. Are you saying bungie should be punished for giving us achievements?

You have to be able to get regular Halo 3 atchievments in Halo 3:ODST becouse of Vidmaster Challenge: Brainstrain (or somthing like that). It requires the new maps, which are only playable in Halo 3: ODST.

G-R-A-Y-M-8-8

Pronounced, Gray Em Eighty Eight

You think MS gives a flying -blam!-? They make so much money off Halo 3 they can swim in it, they don't care about achievements at this point for Halo 3.

Besides, it's Bungie. If it weren't for Bungie, hundreds of thousands of people would have gotten a PS3 instead of a 360, and millions of people wouldn't have gotten Xbox LIVE. I think Bungie deserves a little bit of freedom.

All roads lead to Sol.

Lol, Battle for middle earth has around 780G only.

Thank god. Everyone's cheating to get the achievements.

  • 06.25.2009 8:45 AM PDT

750GS (All of the DLC related achievements in halo 3)
+1000GS (Halo 3 ODST)
=
1750 GS
+300 GS (or so, rounded the value of multiplayer achievements in halo 3 (w/o dlc))
=
2150 GS

You can get around 2150GS just by purchasing Halo 3 ODST, a 60$ game.

Is that against Achievement Policy? Yeah, it is.

People Die..But Spartans Live Forever!

Delta Squad X

oh good god..stop crying about it already dude...it does not matter. Who cares if someone can get the same amount of GS points without having Halo 3..in which they cant..because alot of those points require you to beat halo 3 campaign...so your stupid cry baby rant is false.. and please stop wasting everyone's time. Your not gonna change a damn thing..because why?.. YOUR NOT IMPORTANT!..

  • 06.25.2009 9:11 AM PDT

Sorry I don't understand. Do you NOT want them to give us more achievements? I was under the impression that they were for fun, not a chore, and not something to call your lawyer about.

  • 06.25.2009 9:14 AM PDT

Well if Halo 3: ODST is breaking this policy, microsoft are likely to ignore it because they wouldn't want to stop more money coming in just because of achievement issues.

  • 06.25.2009 9:16 AM PDT

H3:ODST counts as a separate game, which has 1000GS available, all of the H3 Achievements will be under halo 3.

So no it doesn't break the rules.

*sigh*

Halo 3 has 1750 Gamerscore (Microsoft points are Xbox LIVE money) and Halo 3: ODST has 1750 Gamerscore. Giving Halo 3 a whopping total of 3500 Gamerscore.

The second disc isn't Halo 3: ODST. It's Halo 3's Multiplayer component and is actually a version of the Halo 3 disc where the campaign has been replaced with all 13 DLC maps.

Halo 3: ODST is part of Halo 3 as it is a secondary campaign and puts Halo 3's game discs at 3. The current Halo 3 disc, as you know, contains the original campaign that finishes the Chief's story, multiplayer that utilizes 10 DLC maps, Forge mode, and Saved Film. Halo 3: ODSTs first disc contains the all-new campaign as an ODST which is an open-world environment with flashback sequences that count as missions, the all-new Firefight mode, Saved Film, and an invitation to the Halo Reach beta (which is not out when ODST comes out. The beta will come out in early to mid-2010). The extras option will be your ticket to Halo Reach Downloads and the beta itself when it is released. The second disc is, as I said, Halo 3 without the original campaign, and features all 24 Multiplayer Maps on the disc itself.

Bottom line, Halo 3: 1750 G, Halo 3: ODST: 1750 G. 1750 + 1750 = 3500.

Microsoft will let Halo slide as it is the original game for Xbox. It is their money child and they milk it for all it's worth.
