Subject: MAG style Halo game?

Sine if you know what I mean but due to the common hate of the PS3 most of you don't. There is a PS3 game coming out soon called MAG (Massive Action Game) that allows for 256 player battles.
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/mag/index.html

If we choose to believe and go by this "leaked" information, here is what we know.

"-It's an FPS, and not a MMO or similar (and ok)
-It's more Multiplayer/Online oriented then previous Halo, and the SP Campaign will be something "different" to what we've seen so far with the previous games.
-The game is under development since after Halo 3, and for more time then ODST (that is developed by a small part of the team, and it was done in 1 year and an half)
-New graphic engine!
-The multiplayer will be different/new.
-It's the "next big Halo" for Bungie and Microsoft, same importance as an Halo 4
-It's everything "darker" and more serious.
-150 people are working on the Project since 2007"

Now first of all I would like to verify that a MAG style game is a heavily multiplayer oriented shooter. I would say that a MAG style game would meet those requirements more so than most other types of games people have imagined for Halo Reach. I would also like to put it out there that XBL is much more powerful than PSN, so it should be able to match if now exceed the player count of MAG.

I just thought I would put it out there as a suggestion.

No, none of those ideas have much to do what I was talking about.

Talk about Big Team Battle, that looks awesome! It's like Halo wars if Halo Wars was a FPS. If Bungie could pull that off with a new Halo game it would be the best game ever.

Well... except for lag.

No. It would ruin Halo's style of gameplay and there would be so much lag. Not to mention it would take forever to find a match.

Argumentum ad populum

God I hope not.

Having to be tactical with the people that play Halo? Good luck getting that to work.

I wouldn't mind a Halo game that played something like APB.

Create a party and enter matchmaking.
An objective is assigned to you depending on the size of your party and another party is given the counter objective.
You can observe other players in other missions in your vicinity but cannot interfere with their gameplay.

This would give the illusion of being in a massive player environment while preserving manageable team sizes. If you added seperate Covenant and Human factions you could map the overall success of each by showing shifting areas of control on Reach. Where the more successful a faction is in it's missions overall, the more of the planet they control.

Doesn't seem likely but it would be interesting.

Why do people say it has to lag? Just because Halo 3 has networking issues, doesn't mean that every other game does.

Look at CoD4.

@Everyone who mentioned lag, MAG can do 256 players at a time doing 30 FPS, and that was on PSN! XBL has far better support to my knowledge.

You don't necissarily have to be tactical, it just has an organized chain of command. You can just run and gun if you like.

I think anything more than 32 players would detract from the Halo experience. In my opinion 16 player online is more than enough. With 256 players it would no longer play the same way previous Halo games have.

The campaign is probably up to five player coop with five unique character, all of which are Spartans.

I hope the online stays similar to Halo CE with more game options.

it would be a mess. maybe 8 more players would be okay.

I don't join any group that spams me in PM so don't try it.
SPAM applies to anything that is copy and pasted, it is very obvious when you do so don't say you wrote it. Also if you argue with me on the nature of things contained in this signature, you will be blocked and never removed. If you send to me in XBox live you will be Avoided, Blocked, and a complaint will be filed for harassment.

No, and this thread explains why.

i think it would be great. I've always imagined how fun halo would be with hundreds of people playing. maybe for all the fanboys who go "NO DON TAKE AWAYZ MEH CLAZICKS HALO GAIMPLAI!" bungie could add a "Classics" playlist with 8-16 player games such as slayer and stuff.

  • 06.25.2009 9:48 PM PDT

The creators of MAG clearly took a long time to reach such a big multiplayer experience. I think Bungie could get up to 50, and maybe on an off chance, 100. I would LOVE to see this, but I think they may be spending more time on other stuff. I REALLY hope they do extend the amount of players however.

Matchmaking ranking won't be so important with that many players in one match, but I'll have to agree it'll be A LOT of lag, not to mention if the console can take that much size either.
