I hate to be "that guy", but I think the ODST's mission is kinda.......pointless. Its not because they aren't capable fighters or anything, its just that later on their "accomplishment" of possibly saving New Mombasa will be void.

Even though Halo 3 occurs weeks later, the effects can be heard during the game. After the mission "Floodgate", the UNSC and Elites are having a little meeting. During this we hear that the Elites glassed half of Africa to stop the Flood. How is this bad? New Mombasa is in the half of Africa they probably glassed.

Talk about a buzzkill. What do you think though?

POCZ

in a way i kinda agree but when this game takes place the people dont know that the city will be glassed

  • 06.25.2009 7:17 PM PDT

I forgot that ODSTs had a time machine so they could see into the future of the halo timeline.

They had no foreknowledge of those events. Besides, who knows? They might finish their ONI-run mission before NM is glassed. It's not like they're there just to eliminate the Covenant.

ummm.....no
Their mission was to land on the covenant ship and to capture the prophet of Regret.

  • 06.25.2009 7:18 PM PDT

They're obviously finding a way out, but,as none of us has seen the game ending, we can't know

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

Didn't quite work out though did it? I'm talking game wise.

That's what the ODSTs were told. Dare intercepted it and changed it to a new, unknown objective. Notice how Buck is mad and replaces the shotgun with a sniper for Romeo?

Your mission as the Rookie is to find the other members in your squad.

Lord Hood didn't literally mean half of Africa. Just a good, sizable chunk of the area surrounding, and including, new/old Mombasa.

Then half of Kenya would have sufficed.

It's kinda like Reach, isn't it? I mean, we know what happens in the end (well, half of africa gets glassed and reach gets glassed)..... unless Bungie does decide to do some crazy time travel voodoo. Even with that, though, the ride in both games should be fun.

ODST will be quite sweet, but the overall sense of accomplishment will sort of be bittersweet.

By "glassed," they simply made nice glass swans for all the humans, everybody knows that!

You know what I hate? That's a valid point. Darn it.

You know what I'm thinking (hoping)? There'll be some bigger threat. I mean, we have no idea what Veronica's mission is. So maybe it's something even bigger than Africa.

  • 06.25.2009 8:29 PM PDT

Just as every cop is a criminal,
And all the sinners saints,
As heads is tails, just call me lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint.

Bow chicka honk honk.

If the ODSTs didn't do this, the Elites ships would have all the fun later on. And besides, ONI wouldn't pass up a prophet for nothing. They didn't know that [I]In Amber Clad[I] was going to follow Regrets ship, so there has to be a good reason and a bigger point than saving New Mombasa.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

That's the part I really can't wait to find out about. I want to know what VD's (no not that VD) mission is. Hopefully it doesn't get spoiled like other things have.

Well, their mission wasn't pointless at the time. They probably saved a few factories which produced many weapons between then and the Flood invasion.
