You know what? You're right. As much as I like more Halo, I would have loved if it had stopped at Halo 3, which for the record, is the second best game in the series and is only a let down if you want it to be. In fact, if you love something, you have to let go of it and after Halo Wars, my love of Halo told me to let go. But then, I remembered Bungie's Track record. With the exception of Halo Wars (Which was an okay game), all of Bungie's Halo games have been terrific. So have their previous games. And thus, I don't care if its a series milking (Which I personally do not feel like it is) or anything, I will play any Bungie made game, especially Halo
And like I said, I'm a complete Halo geek. More Halo? I'd probably buy any game that has the name Halo slapped onto it.
And wow, seems like there are a lot of better games coming out? Have you played ODST or any of those games? Did you just list Madden in that list? Bungie's games never demo well, with the exception of Halo 2's E3 Demo, which ended up disappointing more people in the end due to the absence of it from the final game. Even before Halo 3 came out, there was a lot of talk about it but at trade shows and all that, it never was the buzz. And yet, when the game came out, GOTYs everywhere.
Sure, Halo 3: ODST's E3 Press Conference showing was...bad and therefore, the general talk around it mediocre. There's no huge marketing being done for it and therefore, once again, not much talk about it. Doesn't mean its a bad game. Doesn't mean any of those games above are better (Again, seriously...Madden?)
Halo 3: ODST is a labor of love to hardcore fans. Fans like myself have begged to be able to play as ODSTs since, well for me, since Halo 2's E3 Showing and finally, its getting done. By Bungie, the fathers of Halo no less. ODST is pure fan-service and Halo: Reach probably would be as well.
I can't speak for the other Halo games probably being developed deep under the Microsoft labs but for now, as long as Bungie's name, not the Halo name, is on the box, I'll buy it. Because, at the end of the day, its not about Halo. Its about the sheer amount of detail, immersion and entertainment I'll receive from a game from Bungie.
Oh and why would you buy a new game just so you could play the levels that are in Halo 2?
Because, they aren't in Halo 2. They are in Halo 3: ODST. Dropping into stores: September 22nd 2009.
