Subject: Lag.

It's like a retard riding a bicycle while eating hot wings.
Sometimes you have to take the bike seat off to really enjoy it.

So I'm guessing Halo 3 ODST's campaign will be laggy in Live Co-Op like Halo 3's.
If it is I'll just split screen again.
They should really fix that or it will ruin ODST.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Bungie can't fix someones bad connection.

Have you ever played the Campaign in XBL Co-Op, smart ass? It's laggy, button wise, every button you press comes out late. It has nothing to do with bad connection.

The lag I have in Campaign never effects multiplayer. And just about everyone on my friends list agrees with me.

Never had that problem when the connections are good. Lag has pretty much everything to do with your connection. Only time I get any issue is when my girlfriends connection cuts out for a split second.

It's not laggy for me. I played it just fine with 4 people on 4 different Xboxes.

It's not actual lag "lag" it's like you press a button and it activates 3 seconds later. You don't teleport or anything. I could play a custom game with 4 people and play just fine, and then go into campaign and the button lag will happen for no apparent reason.

Well I know I get that button lag in MM when I have a lot of things running on my computer. And your connection (or whoever your playing with) does not stay consistent, there can be drops every now and then. I can play numerous hours of campaign with my girlfriend with no issues and then out of the blue we get laggy. It happens.

Yeah I know what you mean. Everytime I play some from overseas in a Multiplayer Match the connection is fine. However when we go on Co-OP we get this Slow-Mo effect which is just a pain the butt.

That sounds a LOT like Xbox/TV lag. Are you playing on an HDTV?

Uhm, do I really have to point out that the network play differently in MM and in co op. In co op, you actually face more NPC than PC, so it require a very different setup.

Unlike MM, the host has to feedback a player for his action to take occur.

I also say that you must have (and/or all of your friends) have bad connection.
Protip; get rid of dial-up.

Yes. 1080i. There's a very unnoticeable delay in MP but Campaign's lag is ridiculous.

Because campaign is less network-intensive and generally runs in higher-quality than MP

It could be that, I play on 1080p and don't notice it, but I have heard that some HD tv's have a larger response time.

Guy above me got it. That seems like it could be the problem.

But that has nothing to do with it. I play on a 420P Tube TV and I still get this lag (Tube TV's typically have faster response rates than LCD's / Plasmas.)

I believe it depends on your location, and ISP.

I have heard that some HD tv's have a larger response time Therein lies the problem. Good news is your internet is probably just fine. Bad news is, there is no fix aside from playing in standard definition or buying a better gaming TV.

Your case is lag, but the OP's problem sounds like TV response time to me.

Isn't the recommended response time like 6-8ms (or lower)? Anything larger and you'll have issues.

I'm not sure, but I provided a link a few posts up to the IGN article. It probably explains.

Unlike MM, your downstream speed is as important as your upstream speed.

Also, like i already said the system doesnt work the same as MM.
Dependent 360 need host confirmation on actions before they are engaged.

So MM.
Dep360 ask for melee and execute the melee (visually).
Host360 Recieve melee and compute the action. Feedback.
Dep360 recieve feedback and show melee has hit the traget.
and so forth

Coop
Dep360 ask for melee, send info to host.
Host360 recieve and seendback.
Dep360 is allowed to show animation of the melee.
Host360 compute melee and feedback.
Dep360 get confirmationl melee has connected.
All of which whle the host send info on all avatar and object (include npc, vehicles, pc, etc)
Its almost like playing with 40+ people at one time.

Thanks for the explanation, although I think this would amplify HDTV response time as well, nay?

I never took any serious computer or networking classes, but for the most part, i figured it out by myself. Deduction and logic.

Checked it out and i was mostly right.

EDIT: as for HDTV response tme, i dont think its that bad.

Never heard of any tv giving more than a 15ms visual and/or audio delay.

It doesn't say, but from what I can find, 6-8ms or lower is fine. Anything higher may cause a bit of lag.

Click my link. Also, I HAVE a Samsung HDTV that performs horribly in games, even on the lowest HDTV setting. Trust me, it's a problem.

HE IS CORRECT PEOPLE
During campaign there is always a slight delay in your movement and button pressing, when yo hit B you will melee a fraction of a second later than if you were host in the same game, this doesnt happen in multiplayer because of the way the host is chosen
