Subject: Weekly "HALO 3 In The Work PLace" Reach Thread 6/26/09

Another week is coming to end. And what a crazy week it has been. We at the Work PLace have a question for you about Reach. This question comes to you by group member Displace.

We all know that online achievements lead to a certain amount of achievement boosting, in some cases ruining the quality of games for people. Would you prefer that Reach did not have online achievements?

We the best

no, i think more online achievements would be better, oline achievement give you more to play for, and they are much more difficult than campain achievement because you are playing agaisnt real human competitions. so i would love even more online achievements.

Hmm, good question Dis.

I guess that I would rather have achievements as (for me) they definitely add something extra to a game. Maybe they could be for zero gamerscore though? Do you think that would cut out the boosting?

Halo 3 in The Work PLace: Work Hard, Play Hard
Posted By: John Lennon
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "happy." They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didnt understand life.

Keep the achievements, but don't make them so hard! Keep the hard achievements in campaign. Remember the early days of Halo 3? You couldn't play a single game of lone wolves without someone asking for the 2for1 or overkill achievement. That was very aggravating.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

Some games have some ridiculously impossible online achievements, like reach the top ten in X leaderboard. GOW comes to mind right away with their "Get X kills with Y weapon in MM". Halo 3, I think, did a good job of adding achievemnts most people can get, without requiring you to play a ton of MM.

So I don't mind the online achievements so far. As far as ruining games, maybe a couple right after an achievement comes out, but hasn't really been any sort of long term problem, I don't think.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

I say keep them offline 1) to get rid of people boosting for them and 2) so that people without XBL aren't stuck with acheivments that they cannot achieve.

I can go both ways with this topic, keeping them offline would obviously remove boosters and such, but keeping them online is way better in my opinion. Bungie has done of good job with their achievements in terms of making them somewhat difficult, but still attainable by all. I believe Reach will keep the same level of difficulty.

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

I somewhat agree with keeping the achievments offline. I was stuck without an internet connection for over a year and was annoyed that I couldnt max out the achievement points on a few games. At the time I thought it was very unfair and one of the reasons I thought the developers were putting some achievements online was to push people to get XBL that inturn would further line microsofts already well lined pockets. Now that I have XBL I can see why some developers do it because generally the achievments online are a right f***er to get so that adds to the fun. I like what Bungie did by offering the sword as an insentive for maxing out the score. So my feelings now are for developers do lean towards making the majority of them offline so that the XBL-less (And there are millions off them! ) dont feel they've been -blam!- on.

Achievements, are neccessary in this game at this point. It's much more fun to be able to say "I got the 2 for 1 achievement! Oh Yeah!" than to just be like "Hey I killed 2 people with a splazer in Lone Wolves"

If not that, at least keep Campaign achievements. Lots of Campaign achievements. I love Campaign, even getting the Annual achievement (I've done it 4 times...)

Agreed Tyrant, keep a majority of acheivements off-line. It annoys me more when people have to cheat to get the hard achievements!!
