Something that I have missed throughout the advancement of the Halo franchise was one of the more over-looked features that was left behind in the transition from Halo: Combat Evolved, and that was the first-person perspective of riding in the passenger seat of a Warthog. Not only was the illusion of being inside of the Warthog a huge help in helping immerse me into the game's environment, but it was a hell of a lot of fun experiencing all of the bumps, turns, and even the crashes and rolls first-hand!

I miss it dearly and would gladly trade third-person for first-person to return. Instead, however, I think it would greatly benefit the players to have this be an optional setting in the game.

What do the rest of you think?

I know some swear by the new 3rd-person due to it being a hell of a lot easier to aim and not having to deal with the vehicle's movements, but if it were optional, would you ever use it?

If it was optional, sure. But I'm sure many would complain if it was forced 1rst person. Then again, the whole game in first person would be even more awesome. Imagine driving a warthog in first person?

I started Starori games in 2011.

No one has the right to take the life of another.

I would prefer it to be optional because 3rd person allows me to watch my back and surroundings while 1st person allows me to have some fun in custom games.

It would be pretty cool for machinima too...

1st would be more fun. Good idea! I completely forgot that it was in first person *dusts off Halo CE*

I actually made me sick but god I would like to see it return!! but than there should be a first person driver view aswell, both optional

  • 06.26.2009 8:42 AM PDT

WildCard Machinima motto: "Make 'em laugh, make them cry, make them remember why."

My motto:"We have all the time in the world, the only obsticles are the ones we put in front of us that stop us..."

I would like it to be optional because then at least we could choose and everyone would be happy.=) Personally I don't really care about it. I'm better at driving anyway.

First person, but if you have a sword or bomb or oddball, it's 3rd person.

Personally i would really like to see the return of that perspective of the passenger. If bungie is really up to it, they should even thing about making it 1st person for the driving perspective to. And since more than likely some ppl would dislike the idea, yes, they should make it optional.

  • 06.26.2009 9:46 AM PDT

It had it's advantages, but those were way outweighed by disadvantages :(.

I would like first person for riding along in the Hog because it keeps your reticule the same size as it would if you were not on the Hog. H2 and H3 had 3rd person, which is fine and all, but the reticule stayed the same once you got on the hog, making it EXTREMELY hard to shoot people once riding along.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

it would be cool as an option so the player can choose therd or first person depending on what they like...or even have a button that lets you change mid driving/ rideing..like the B button.

make 1st and 3rd person views optional for every vehicle. 1st person driving and gunning would be fun. flying the banshee thro the eyes of the computer system. be nuts

Most definitely. I loved that feature so much, I was pissed when they took it away. First-person passenger seats for the win!

  • 06.26.2009 10:21 AM PDT

You say tomato; I say potato.

The first person passenger was so much fun on jumps and flips. It is the only time in the entire Halo series that that the camera changes the roll angle. Is it possible that the ability to do so has been removed from the Halo engine completely since Halo CE?

First person driving would be even better! That would definitely have to be optional though.

I'm not sure they would want first-person driving, since that eliminates a lot of visibility for drivers, and while its the same for the passenger... passengers are by design not meant to be relied on for safety. Drivers are. Who knows, though.

i think it should stay third person because when it was first person it was too wild to kill anyone

  • 06.26.2009 6:16 PM PDT

Making first person mandatory would kill a lot of the fun for monriders. When your only defense is your speed, you need to be able to see your surroundings, and frankly it would be sickening every time you bruteshot jumped.

  • 06.26.2009 6:20 PM PDT

I wouldn't use it, but optional is always better. Having made 3rd person shooter mods and 1st person mods for fps/tpses on the pc, I; can tell you myself, very easy.

I'd love if 1st-person in the passenger seat was brought back. It could be powerful with a Laser or Sniper at a distance, if zooming in is allowed.

I can't think of any disadvantages to it . . . making it optional would be the safest thing for Bungie to do. Good thinking!

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

I'd like it to be optional. Some people tend to like the third person thing, but I find it pointless since I can't aim at anything properly. Plus I liked seeing all the details on the Warthog in Halo 1.

  • 06.26.2009 6:40 PM PDT

Power corrupts. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely.

I think having it optional would be a good thing, I would always have it in first person, but if u dont like that view, you could always change it to third. if they included that riding as passenger would be tight. and for machinima it would be amazing.

How about optional vehicle AND passenger first person?

You know? Like in Star Wars Battlefront!
