anti matter engines. Surprisingly enough the technology here that is closest to working is anti-matter. it exists and we can produce it and even use and store it safely. The only issue here is making anti-matter in large quantities quickly.

Yes, but they should reconsider using anti-matter. They are just the recipe to destroy the fabric of time and space you know.

So yeah, technology is catching up with halo.

well anti matter isn't quite what people seem to believe it to be. anti matter will only react with it's corresponding matter. (ie. anti-hydrogen will only react with hydrogen) as anti-matter is essentially inside out atoms. that means the nucleus of regular matter is made with protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting it, hence heavier in the center than the orbiting electrons. in anti- matter the nucleus is composed of electrons and neutrons and orbited by protons, making the center equal in mass to the orbiting protons. This creates a unstable atom as all the 'particles' are practically orbiting each other. However, with out coming into contact with it's counterpart stable matter, the very specifically tuned energy levels in the anti-matter will be unable to stabilize it self. When it does come into contact with it's stable counterpart matter, the unstable protons in the anti matter have a canceling effect on the charge of the stable electrons in the regular matter, and the electrons in the anti mater cancel out the protons in the nucleus of the stable matter converting the two types of sub atomic particles into pure energy by disassembling them to their base components. this results in a large burst of energy and harmless neutron radiation. though theoretically it has a devastating effect used in a weapons type scenario(the amount of energy released by a single raisin in a reaction like this could produce a 50 kiloton explosion) , it also would be the cleanest possible form of power generation.

Your right, we're going to be WAY passed the technology in Halo by 2550... We can almost already make things invisible. And they say they're eventually going to cloak TANKS.

Yup...

Wow thanks Phoenix. But what I mean is if you are able to stabilise enought anti-matter into a single spot, in theory, you will create a wormhole and they are dangerous.

As for the invisibility stuff:

Yeah, but, old, the super theory (I don't know if its suppose to work) is to make the particle of a objetc resonate at a higher frequency which would render them invisible, at a higher frequency I heard it could even disapear from really (our reallity) but I think thats not true.

While I've read in a scientific magasine recently that they worked and are still working to create a pattern (texture) for invisibility.
I do not remember the pattern but the purpose was to make them tinier of the longetivity of the beam of light which would make the light get around the pattern, making it invisible.

But, getting off topic from the "ODST forum", we should create another thread in off-topic, seriously, I don't wish to see ninjas.

How do we know wormholes are dangerous because you have to try something to know what it does.

For example death is the same thing as a wormhole,we don't know what happens after we die or enter a wormhole.

Before 2525, yeah. However, it won't be for a while. Anyways, gotta go. I have to catch the Pelican to work.

Once again you need to stop playing Halo and the Scientists need to think of something else to do as its just a FREAKING GAME
What could the scientists do? Cure cancer? What if that's not there area of exprtise? Now I do agree partially with the people who keep saying "its a FREAKING GAME", but there area might be studying plasma for future weaponry or as an alternate power source because until you have honestly seen the future and those weren't there you can't say its impossible.
I mean you can't expect them to do something else if that's all they know.

In some situations that might work but just because he's called odst mickey doesn't mean he has dreams about becoming an odst and killing the covenant.

And to be honest i don't really give a s**t because all 6 billion of us will be dead in the next 100 years so i don't really care.
if i did care i would go on a quest to become immortal.

Well there's scientists trying to make an anti matter engine and crap so plasma doesn't really surprise me :S

We also have working holograms and crap I think some CNN lady did a broadcast through a hologram of herself.

Good science fiction writers, Heinlein / Asimov for examples, often uses real science in their work.

ION and Plasma, drive, technology are both within the grasp of today's scientists. The reality of both is a function of funding.

NASA has also discussed the technical feasibility of a 'space elevator' as a means of moving objects into space without having to burn fossil fuels in order to break out of Earth's atmosphere.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Can't give Halo credit for technology moving, the writers do a great job in building established science into their fiction. If anything you could say that many of the idea's built into Halo were conceptualized before Halo started. Then again the ideals of space travel and supersoldiers and aliens are very old ideas.

if it could get us to different planets/terras scientists in fact need to work on it.

with the space elevator we could get to mars because
A: We could make a space station on the moon (after we learn about living in space from the international space station)
B: We could transport rocket parts/fuel/food/supplies and blast off from the moon getting to mars quicker (less gravitational resistance.)

If you're in space, once you get going, you'll never slow down until you get close enough to a mass with sufficient gravity to pull you in.

Well we will be in head of that technology before 2550 unless we destroy ourselves before then. Except the things like the Shaw-Fujikawa Drive, I have no idea about that.

not completely true. there is drag in space.(friction) with interstellar gasses. and actually when we are talking relativistic speeds this posses quite a problem
