I was thinking of how Bungie could add more customization to their new game. As it is a big part of Halo 3 today.

Forge
Forge is one of the main customization modes of todays Halo 3 and I see a lot of things that are great and some that can also be improved upon.
-You could edit objects in real time (like it is now) or you could pause it and edit objects with out the interruptions.
-Items merge with terrain automatically and stay in place when paused.
-Placeable buttons and corrisponding objects (elevators, bridges, doors, ect.)
-I would also like "more objects" (more on this).
-And lastly an "undo" feature.

More Objects (Object Editor)
We have this amazing tool called the "Forge." We all love to mess around in it and create custom content like no other. Although there is only so much customization possible with a limited number of objects. That is where the object editor comes in.
-Edit the size, color, shape, and texture of an object.

Size
You could edit size with a simple slider bar.
Shape
Change the shape by ether several slider bars or a pull option that allows you to contort the shape.
Color
Choose from different colors and hues.
Texture
Choose from a variety of different textures.

Details:
In the "object editor" you could make several small objects. You then use these small objects to make a larger object. You save the object. All of the objects you created in that workspace are saved as one object.
You then go into Forge and scroll down the list of "Custom objects" until you find the one you made. Then you drop your object into the map.

Example: You go into the editor and create a small base out of smaller walls, you also custom made so that they fit perfectly together. (Objects automatically merge and stay in place when they are released).
After you have created your small base you then go into Forge and find the item you named "Base1" you then select the object and drop it onto the normal forge just as you would now.
You could then go back into the objects menu and select your creation again. Then place it on the other side of the map. You now have two perfectly symmetrical bases.

Possible Weapon and Vehicle Editors
There could also be a weapon editor as discussed here. With possible weapon appearance customization.

Also a vehicle editor that would be some what the same.

More Custom Game Options

Customizable HUD

More Forge

Customizable Enemies

Note: I realize that not all of this can be done but customization is ultimately what keeps people playing games, and with that I ask:
What do you think of these ideas, and what would you like to see customizable?

I think it would be a good thing to add in, but you cant have a huge amount of customization for one disc, now, having the extra customizing options as a free DLC would work really well. the only problem with your idea is that the file size to store all the customized objects would grow enormus if you forge alot.

I was actually thinking they could release it as DLC as there would be less demand for "New Maps" if there was enough customization. Although, I can see your point about files size being an issue. I'm sure the great minds at Bungie could figure it out.

I know M$ would like that.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

As far as character customization goes, I'd like to see the secondary color system reworked a bit better. One of my gripes with Halo 3's multiplayer is that for some of the armor permutations, some areas are curiously left uncolored/uneditable. This is most evident with the Hayabusa and EOD helms. Areas are defaulted to a sort of "silver" color and changing the secondary/primary doesn't change that, and to me, it resulted in making the EOD and Hayabusa helms looking a little more goofy than they should.

I can agree with that. I was hoping for them to go into a little more detail with emblems too. I mean as is you can only be so unique and as soon as someone finds a cool one everybody has it.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, as long as Bungie keeps the lag down.

Well is it a bad thing? ...:[

But anyway, the customization I'd like to see is basically the armor perms, but more different. This time, you can create a soldier, rather than a Spartan or Elite. They might should (wut) go out of their way with customization in this game, like, for each body part, make them customizable.

Y'know, different type of patterns, colors, clothing, etc. I would post like my whole idea in-depth description of what I'd like, but it'd be too long (lulz).

And the idea of an object editor sounds cool, as long as it has a cool name.

i would like to have armor classes not like in halo 3 that just makes superficial changes and doesn't affect game play like a speed suit for well speed or a tank suit that's slow ut can take a lot of damage so on and so forth with stuff like that and personalized customization for fpr each class

If it is similar to what is stated above, then yes.

(-_-) Bored Face

I think they're great ideas. Tell me what you think about this http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=34191888

If i find you online (if i ever GET xbox live) please note i'm a cop, and if i catch you speeding, i will pull you over and i will arrest you. oh wait, you have a gun too...

Vehicle customization options:
i really want to have a turretless warthog or a police warthog or a police mongoose, because i think it would be perfect for machinimas. possible customisations would include:

Turret mounts:
Gauss mounts for gauss cannons, Gun mounts for maschine guns, roll cage and Seats for transporters (like transport warthog from lvl 3 in the halo 3 campaign) or no mounts for Civillian vehicles.

Color: same options as armor and emblem

Paint Scheme: like Police, None, Military, Flames, etc etc.

Attachments:
Like roofs and spoilers

Horns:
Like normal horns, and sirens.

Horns could be linked to light attachments, or the melee button could activate lights in vehicles.

Don't forget CQB, where it's black

I think these are all good ideas and I hope some of these ideas make it to the final product of Halo:Reach.
I have had the idea of the Undo button for a while but I'm happy to here that someone else agree's with me.

-Oh Dwyer

there could be "custom vehicle/weapon/color/armor" slots to keep lag down. and as there would be options, there would be restrictions, and restrictions mean less lag!

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Customization I would like to see:

Player Models:
-More player models, this means Brutes or anyother character models
-Change eye/visor colour
-Armour permutations for forearms, legs, etc. A lot of armour permutations in general
-Hud options (restrictions can be applied)
-Decals, war damage (again, restrictions can be applied)
-tons of new emblem choices
-etc.

Forge:
-Snap to grid
-Raise, lower, hold, stay commands
-Easy map editor (wheather and time of day, things like that)
-basically, forge perfected
-etc.

Custom Games:
-Way more gamestypes
-Way more options with players
-add games together, for instance, have multiple objectives, like a bomb and a flag, or oddballs and flags
-etc.

Once again, the only issue with having so many different options is space to save all the different objects and permutations.

Dont fire until you see the whites of their eyes

like the need for speed series and how you can make parts on the car bigger or smaller, i've been wanting too do that since i first started playing halo

  • 07.03.2009 7:55 PM PDT

They should make forge better, you kno the juicy balls? they should make diferent colour foggy balls, and you should be able to grab the sun like on sandbox, and drag it to anyposition in the sky to change the time of day!

also people should be able to forge terrain like grass and water to fully make anymaps you want!
