This thread is the parent thread

Many of you do not want dual wielding. Besides using the lousy excuse of "time period," there is no reason for this not to work.

In Halo 2 and 3, dual wielding is disliked mostly because it forces Bungie to make weapons that are useless by themselves. (When I say that I mean that can effectively kill without any assistance).

However, there is a way to make powerful weapons, that can be dual wielded. Instead of cutting their power, cut their accuracy.

Now before you guys start crying over the thought of inaccurate weapons, hear me out.

SINGLE WIELDING

Just like in Halo 1. The weapons have good power, and are effective at their respective weapons.

DUAL WIELDING

Here is where it gets different. When dual wielding weapons, your accuracy is diminished. How? Very simple, the aiming reticule gets larger, therefore, more spread to the two weapons, making them less effective at medium range, and more effective at closer range.

Sure, we may be 500 years in the future, but the laws of physics still apply, you cannot control two weapons as well as you can control 1. There is more recoil, etc.

This will allow us to have powerful weapons, and still allow us to dual wield them. For those of you who think that this will be overpowered:

You are carrying 2 guns. Why should you do the same amount of damage as 1? 2 guns = more power. But only at close range.

Diagrams

Single Wielding
Again, just like in Halo 1. Good power, and effective at their respective ranges.

Dual wielding
Now you have the power of two guns. But at a cost, your accuracy. Instead of halving the power of single weapons, half the accuracy of dual wielding weapons.

The Green is the new aimer. The red is just there to show where the aimer used to be.

Feel free to add your own ideas, or point out flaws in mine. Just be reasonable.

DISCLAIMER:Guys, ignore the cannon. This is multiplayer, not campaign.

If you were to base it off cannon, here is something:

Elites would be 8 feet tall (1 foot taller than MC), all covenant weapons would be ridiculously powerful compared to human ones, etc.

Forget the story, this is multiplayer, not campaign.

physics yes yes yes. good idea

So you like it? I need to know if there are any flaws that I did not foresee.

yes because i want the halo games to make a turn to more realistic game play. such as more recoil, more camera movement while moving, damage on armor, stuff like that.

At heart, this idea will keep Halo, Halo. But what is allows for is to have balanced weapons that can be effective both by single wielding and by dual wielding.

I mean, a SAW light machine gun is a very effective weapon. But if I could hold two SAWs at once, I would be twice as powerful, but at a cost. My accuracy. That is how dual wielding should be.

Not two guns = one gun.

I like this idea; possibly the weapon power could be toned down a slight bit when you pick up a second one (like in Halo 3, but not in Halo 2), barrel climb can be added to all weapons that are dual wielded (only when they are dual wielded) and the range would be very bad.

Yours is the only way I would like to see dual wielding return... I hope Bungie takes note.

hmmm but this would still limit how strong single wielded weapons are.
More accuracy on dual wielded weapons = Less powerful weapons

They would only be less accurate if you're holding two weapons at once, otherwise they would be accurate (ex. the H1 PR is an accurate midrange weapon)

Agreed, dual wieldable guns should function like a normal gun when not being dual wielded. This is the only alternative to removing dual wielding altogether.

That is exactly what I am thinking of. Continuous fire would be impractical due to barrel climb which would be twice that of the Halo 3 SMG, and the range would be just about halved.

This would force players to make a choice, power or range?

I am on Halo 3 right now. I will take screenshots to show what I am talking about.

Very good. This makes much more sense than having Bungie nerf the weapons.

Perfect, also they could add a slight longer reload. So people dont camp in a halfway and own people at close range, it gives people a chance to run if being shot at and when the clip ends the victim can attack while hes reloading. Although a skilled user would save a few shots and reload one at a time at the normal speed.

  • 06.27.2009 12:26 PM PDT

Reloading weapons while dual wielding already takes longer.

However, for weapons that over heat, there should really be no difference. Just because you have two ice cream cones doesn't mean that they will melt any slower than one.

Wow, this is an amazing idea. I was saying to myself the other day "dual weilding IS pointless because you have to make 2 crap guns, how can this be fixed?" And you just -blam!- fixed it.

110% supported.

Am I the only one who can use a single SMG/ Spiker? Its called use them grenades

You know, dual wieldable weapons melee much faster than non.

A weapon should be able to kill buy itself with no melee or grenades. I use a single spiker a lot but I usually end up finishing with a melee.

With human weapons, the mauler and probably the spiker the recoil should raise your weapon.

Good luck with the AR then. It's made for combinations.

Would you want us to be able to hold 2x as much ammo as now, or only have the max. amount of ammo from one weapon (plus whatever you find in the second gun you pick up)? I think it would be better if we keep the same max. ammo as you would have in a single weapon.

Not at all. The AR is a good all around weapon.

People who say BR > AR always need to realize, no, not always.

I'm pretty much set that every weapon really has an effective way to use it.
Remember those people that said the pistol was worthless? lol. Yea, sure.

I like this idea. I miss the days when the PR was a force to be reckoned with. I can really only see this as the way to make dual wielding work.
