Subject: To everyone saying Halo is getting milked...

My troll sense is tingling.

It's not. >_>

So far the franchise only has 5 (6 if you count ODST), Many franchises have dozens, even hundreds of more games. Example? Call Of Duty, (it's recently been announced there is a sequel to WaW in the works) Tekken, Soul Calibur, all those yearly sports titles, Final Fantasy, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear, Castlevania, Mario, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Medal Of honor, Need for speed, Rayman, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Tom Clancy and am I missing any? Oh, and it's not Bungie's fault they're making another Halo, Microsoft hired them, same way as they hired Ensemble studios for making Halo Wars. Microsoft owns the rights, it's their series. Bungie has stated that they're working on several projects (still hope for you yet, Marathon fans) and apart from the ones revealed, none of them are Halo.

Don't complain about milking in a media industry, that's like complaining that it exists.

That Foman guy freaking hates me.

i am a zelda fan but i would also point out that halo is one of if not the best game experience ever. and has pioneered a lot in the games industry.
complainers are fools. what would you rather be playing nintendo's super build a shed extraveganza or something close to that title (they made a be a builder/ fireman/ police officer series last year.)
if you dont want to see the game then dont buy it no one is forcing you're hand but dont clog up forums with stupid boycott threads : )
thats all i have to say.

Halo would be milked if they kept going FORWARD in the time line.
Halo: Reach is a fantastic idea, because story-wise it's a prequel, but its supposedly going to be better.

Halo would be milked if they just kept creating new enemies for the UNSC to fight.

Well I've got bad news for you both, because they are going to go forward in the timeline at some point. Frank O'Connor confirmed at Emerald City that Master Chief's and Cortana's storylines were not finished at the end of Halo 3.

We'll see them again, later along in the timeline... and I do not share your sentiments about that being "milking".

Really, Just because its set in the past means it not milking the series, someone show this boy the star wars trilogies for goodness sake. If anything Prequels are more of a milk then sequels. And yes, bungie and microsoft are milking the series but as long as the games are of high quality it shouldn't matter. The amount of games created should always be second to how the game plays anyone who things otherwise is a fool.

I don't think people are properly understanding the term "milking." It is not always about the number of games produced; it is more about the quality of the game. Once people start purchasing the game for the game title, instead of the game quality, then it will be milked. I think it is getting there. While Halo 3 is still a fun game, it just isn't the same. It's not a quality game. Halo CE was The Godfather, while Halo 3 is Billy Madison. They are both fun to watch, but no one can debate which game is better.

It gives the impression that Bungie is a one-trick pony when EVERYTHING that came from them recently is Halo.
Yes but Halo is great. It wouldn't be necessary or make sense for them to stop the series for a few years and then continue it. Many of the fans would have moved on by then.

To be honest i would be pretty peed-off if i didnt know what happened to the spartans on reach, if it wernt for the series released as games I would have never known about the halo universe. I am very intrested now becuase there is so much to learn about the saga that hasent even been unfolded. Im looking forward to ODST and Reach. Very promising :) thanks bungie for the awesome series :D

"There is no such this as innocence, only degrees of guilt."

Remember, The task ahead is NOTHING compared to the power of what we have already achieved.

The halo series is a piece of genius, especially halo 3 had great times on it. How can this series ever possibly be "milked"

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

I debate that Halo 3 is better, but that's beside the point. Also, Bungie has been releasing a Halo game every 3 years, some franchises are done yearly.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Pope

The day they release Halo: Kart Racing! is the day we know that the franchise is being milked. As it is 6-ish games released over a period of 9 years is not milking the frachise, and personally as long as they maintain the current level of quality i wouldnt mind seeing double or triple that amount of games.

Which is great, because every Halo game to date has been of Top-Notch Quality.

bungie sitll makes quality games and thats all the matters

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

All the game series you just mentioned have been milked... lol. As long as REACH plays more like Halo 1 than Halo 2/3, I will not consider it "milked" (i.e. catering to the casual fans alone, rather than casual and competitive)

  • 06.27.2009 8:53 AM PDT

All I ask is that you don't try to capture me.

As long as Bungie maintains their commitment to making quality games, and doesn't hand the franchise over to outside developers, then Halo can not be considered 'milked.'

That being said, I'd love to see an original IP developed sometime in the next few years.

  • 06.27.2009 9:03 AM PDT

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Some people just love to hate Halo. I guess it makes them feel cool and different or something. But the Halo franchise isn't anywhere close to being milked yet. I think the best example possible of a milked franchise would be the Mario franchise.

Don't even try to make the comparison, the franchise started much earlier than Halo and they're a different genre.

Is Halo getting "milked"? Possibly. I didn't enjoy Halo 2 as much as Halo:CE, and I liked both of them much more than Halo 3. Halo Wars was a ho-hum RTS. If OSDT and Reach don't deliver as games then I wouldn't hold it against someone to claim that Halo has dropped in quality.

And milked doesn't refer to the number of games, etc.
