Ranger elites, if you do not remember, where the elites in Halo 2 that had the jetpacks. Not only were they part of that elite armor permutation bonanza that occurred in Halo 2 (Council and Honor Guard as well), they were also the only permutation to have stuck around for Halo 3. Kinda.
I was excited when i saw the OXM that had the inside scoop on halo multiplayer, sneaking a peak at some of the awesome armor perms in Halo 3. In there, was armor that looked just like that of the ranger elites, only i later discovered that this was in fact that assault armor. I got my hopes up once again when i heard about the flight armor permutation, but no, that as well was not that same as that of the ranger elite, for the flight armor was made for banshee use. But that's not really the point - the real point here is the jetpack.
Instead of bringing the Ranger Elites to Halo 3, they ran the other way, and pretended the rangers (and their fancy getup) never existed. The only evidence of their existence is the clumsy brute jetpacks that might as well just be superpowered pogo sticks.
What i'm trying to get at is - Halo Reach has got a lot of people excited over nothing more than a simple teaser and banner. Nothing got anyone more hot and bothered than halo 2's "home runs" introducing the Sword, which everyone dreamed about so much. The Wraith as well. The next home run? Jetpacks. I dont know how well they'd work, or if they'd work at all, but i'd at least like to see something of the ilk in campaign if anything. Maybe make them a super fast single unit transport, maybe have it offer extra shielding.
Thanks for reading (if you did), and please don't shoot me.
