also people keep saying things like "leave halo as it is"

to the people you keep saying that- yes halo was revolutionary and yes it was a great game, but thats just it. keyword: was.

and even if you think its great how it is, that doesn't mean that the majority of halo gamers do, halo: CE was great, halo 2 was good, halo 3 was okay,

halo3:ODST- it'll probably bring halo back to great, because of the new options like playing as ODSTs and firefight,

halo:reach, i assure you that if its the same, itll be just another halo game, which will bring it down to crap,

it may be fun for a week or two cause of new maps, and campaign, but if the gameplay and features are the same as halo 3, halo 2, or even halo: CE, then it wont do good,

trust me when i say that halo will not live forever, one day someone will make a sci-fi shooter that'll blow everyones minds away, and people will say, "i remember suggesting that for halo: reach, too bad bungie didnt listen, too bad they made it the same as all the other halos"

please Bungie- i dont want to see this happen to halo, and i assure you it will, you may think halo is the best thing ever, but it wont be for long. please do not make it the same, im not saying make it a class based, but what i am saying is that if the gameplay doesn't change, even a little, then halo will fall, and at a fast rate, and it'll fall even faster, if there aren't alot of new features.
I say that too, thats why im making that wall of text list of ideas to put into Halo Reach, i dont want it to have the feeling of COD though, i want it to be changed into a more innovative and technologic Halo universe, i want a new halo experience but not like other FPS games

I don't want it much like COD or anything like that either, but classes could make for interesting gameplay in Halo. The class system I came up with isn't even classes really exept different starting weapons and some different traits, but wouldn't it be cool if you play as a Brute and you actually move a little slower but meele harder. If you take away sprinting then Halo stays pretty much Halo exept there will be one more character running around in multiplayer. I'm not trying to force anything on Bungie, but I can come up with something I think is really simple and basic like weapon attachments for some weapons and 3 of 4 Halo fans say "it's not Halo" or "this isn't COD" or "if anything changes I won't play Halo". Ok I know weapon attachments could add to balance issues, and I came up with ways to fix it like longer reload and less bullet magnetism. And people reply "it's not Halo".

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

I voted "not really", it was the exact same thing I was thinking when I read the title. The reason why is because, well. It's more than one reason to be honest.

People will start calling it a "Call of Duty rip off". And in this case, I would tend to agree. While I would welcome any drastic changes to gameplay Bungie have to offer with open arms, a Class System won't be one of them I'm afraid.

Another reason is because we have Forge now, and if we had a class system, it would completely eliminate a key point of having Forge and Custom Games, and even having weapons on the maps altogether.

Call of Duty 4, while having a great campaign and multiplayer experience (despite the campaign being really short), has an annoying issue with multiplayer. And that is everyone and their mothers have sniper rifles. I know what you're all thinking... I've been owned way too much by the sniper rifle. No, it's not because of that. It's because whenever I pick up a sniper rifle in that game, it no longer feels satisfying to get a kill with the thing, because everyone is killing their enemies in the exact same way. In short, the BR and Sniper Rifle are Halo's "pro" weapons, right? The same thing will happen. Everyone will pick the BR and Sniper Rifle as a starting weapon, and no one will get to use the other weapons, making them completely pointless in even being in the game's multiplayer.

I'm all for modifying weapons and such, but only for the campaign experience. Truth be told, I care mostly about the campaign. But the multiplayer is something I have to take into account since it's something me and my friends will be playing together once it is released.

But it really isn't classes just look. It would only be these three character models.

The class system I listed isn't even really classes just character models with some uniqe traits. They have different starting weapons that's all. You still run around pick up weapons and do whatever it's basically the same gameplay. Except you won't want to get too close to a Brute, and Spartans are quick. I don't care if you take sprinting away. This could really make for some fun and interesting gameplay. Matchmaking may end up a little more like custom games because you can change your stats based on how much armor you put on. Stats still wouldn't change that much though.

Idea for classes. Actually more like character models with traits.

Classification: Spartan
Starting Weapons: Assault Rife & Battle Rifle
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 475-500 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 120-145%
Sprint Speed: 150-165%
Sprint TIme: 15 seconds
Sprint Recovery Time: 7 seconds
Shield Strength: 100%
Shield Recovery Time: 7 seconds
Meele Strength: 125%
Min-Max Jump Height: 4-10 feet
Health: 115-125%

Classification: Elite
Starting Weapons: Plasma Rifle & Carbine
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 500-525 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 115-135%
Sprint Speed: 140-150%
Sprint Time: 10 seconds
Sprint Recovery TIme: 10 seconds
Shield Strength: 110%
Shield Recovery Time: 5 seconds
Meele Strength: 135%
Min-Max Jump Height: 3-7 feet
Health: 115-125%

Classification: Brute
Starting Weapons: Spiker & ?
Max Carrying Capacity: 2 weapons, 2 grenades, 1 equipment
Min-Max Armor Weight: 525-550 lbs
Min-Max Speed: 110-120%
Sprint Speed:125-135%
Sprint Time: 15 seconds
Sprint Recovery Time: 5 seconds
Shield Strength: 115%
Shield Recovery Time: 9 seconds
Meele Strength: 150%
Min-Max Jump Height: 1-3 feet
Health: 125-145%

Traits like speed, jump height, and health change depending on how much armor you put on your model. And each trait changes between the given ranges. For example:
Min-Max Speed: 115-135%
In custom games you can change the statistics even further for each model.

That just isnt Halo. I have nothing against that type of game but it just isnt Halo. Halo is where everyone has a chance to get to a weapon without just suddenly exploding or being sniped. I find hard to believe that you can't grasp that concept.

  • 07.04.2009 7:35 PM PDT

Yes, I would FULLY support a more "Team Fortress" like MP experience. Unfortunately I highly doubt it would happen. Bungie knows that the VAST MAJORITY of the Halo players are simpletons that cannot comprehend anything other than "OMG SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT! YEA, I TOTTALLLY POWNED JUU! *TEABAGS*".

This isn't even classes just 3 character models with slightly different traits and only health, jump height, and speed are changable. And even then they are only changable between the given ranges for each class. Do you want to get rid of the ability to change armor weight? That's how players would change health, jump height, and speed between the ranges I gave.

  • 07.04.2009 10:56 PM PDT

Oel ngati kameie, oe omum nga, oe ’efu nga.

people stop using call of duty as a reference to classes, its not the only game to have classes, and plus that game keeps saying they aren't classes, just character models with different traits.

even though i dont want halo to have THOSE character models, if they let you start with weapons of your choice after ranking up and unlocking, they would add to the playability of MM, ppl would want to get those weapons to start with and they would play MM even more

This class system wouldn't change any of that. And again it realy isn't a class system. You choose your character model the same way you choose spartan or elite for Halo 3. You can't change starting weapons or any thing like that. The only thing you can change is how much armor you put on your character and that would effect health, speed, and jump height. And even then only between the given ranges for each class.

I am all i am, i am a team player(when im not pissed), i make great strategies, i will punch you in the face after armor locking, you have to be at sniper distance to not get headshot by my DMR or pistol, wraiths beware, i am DxXOrangesXxD and i am ready to rumble! (When Halo 4 comes out cause Reach is nothing but crap players now)

having to have startign weapons and such would mostly kill multiplayer, and characters are running all the time its fien the way it is, the only thing im for is brutes moving slower and having some more resistence then the elite and spartan if they do put them into Reach

We already have starting weapons in matchmaking and you can still change them along with everything else in customgames. You guys just don't want any form of classes even if it realy isn't real classes so much.

Classes would complicate things AND alot of other players wont like it, great ideas have to be popular by demand(as the poll shows)classes just would not feel Halo like it would make EVERYONE think "this is so COD"

In general spartans are fast & jump high, elites are a little more sluggish & stronger than spartans, and brutes are slow & the power house. I understand you guys want Halo's iconic gameplay, but this is seriously ridiculous. This concept would just add a Brute character model and give all 3 of the character models different and balanced traits. Yeah more weapons and stuff ok, but we need something bigger than that. You guys want to say it's stupid and try to find like a billion flaws in it because it's not like how Halo has been for practically the past 8 years.

we want it to be a new experience but not with classes, at the most they will add resistences and effects to the armors and make the 3 characters more balenced as you said but no sprinting or default starting weapons thats what the gametypes are for, there can never be a default weapon setting for each unit or class BECAUSE people are going to be playing all sorts of gametypes with different weapons and such, i cant explain it more clearer then that

You guys just realy don't want anything like classes. Ok I respect that, but please just stop it with "it's not Halo" already. Halo is always changing as someone else I forgot pointed that out. If Bungie had the same attitude that some fans have about Halo's gameplay we would probably still be playing Halo CE style gameplay, and people probably have stopped playing Halo long ago.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I found it pretty funny how you set up the option, "No way, are you stupid?!", knowing full well that it would be the option that would be most picked.

Not realy. Most of these people are unknowingly trying to make Halo fall behind with this "it's not Halo" attitude. Halo is always changing. If Bungie had that attitude we probably wouldn't have elites in MP, dual wielding, forge editor, and maybe some other stuff.

UNSC Spartan360, how about you stop 'accidently' triple posting and spamming your 'character traits' on this form and listen to the majority of the people in this topic, we dont want class's, character models, or traits. We just want bungie to succesfully reproduce their genious halo game, not GoW, or CoD, or any other noob-fest game you want to scrample with it, if you want something similar to those things, (heres a revolutionary ide) go and play those games instead of coming on these forms and whining how you want those games in this game, it isnt going to happen.
