Hey guys, just come back after the new announcments. I am very excited about this new game, and very much looking forward to some more details. However, one thing worries me. I've read the book 'Fall of Reach', and it is very good, well written, with a very interesting plot.

The worry I have is that the game will not match the book. I know the book isn't technically canon, but it's the only source we have of that time period, and it would be a shame to completely write off what is a very good story and prelude to Combat Evolved.

first the halo books are cannon

and i have to say agree with what cheehwawa would witch would be that you are likly to follows to story that you will play as the group of Spartans not covered in the books. playing the books would not be much fun if you have read them

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

We can only make assumptions and, like you said, the books are all we have to go on. What seems to be a popular theory is that it follows a story that was not really covered in the books; The defense of the generators. Likely following Team beta. (as stated in Cheehwawa's thread, not my original theory)

That seems to be one of the more popular theories and one I can see being close.

The book is Cannon. I love the book, but I really hope they twist the plot just a little, like first ur little Cheif, then Big cheif comes back and they meet. EPIC!!!

They are not canon, halo:ce said that 117 is the last spartan, nylund wrote something else.
Since Halo: Reach will be canon to the rest of the trilogy, we can be sure that it won't follow the books story.

I know the book isn't technically canonActually, it is.

, but it's the only source we have of that time period,First Strike has more on the battle of Reach than TFoR does...

and it would be a shame to completely write off what is a very good story and prelude to Combat Evolved. They won't write off the story or disregard anything (such as the number of Spartans on Reach), but I bet we will get a new perspective on the combat (there were 14, 11 healthy, 3 crippled, Spartans who weren't given a fate on the surface of Reach in TFoR or FS... but maybe they will have one in REACH).
