Look guys i know it wont happen and i just want you to tell me why it would be bad or good so no need to be negative. Oh and don't say anything about call of duty either please.

The knife would be cool for maybe one of the flashbacks, and i don't mean the call of duty quick slash and then you put away your knife, or in games were you can keep holding the knife and slash really fast. i mean kind of a strictly for stealth/quick kills not a Rambo style.

The reasons it wouldn't really be in the game are its kinda out of date i guess, some enemies have a strong armor, and the Best one in my opinion is it isn't really " halo" style.

Some good reasons are enemies have some openings in there armor like the front of there neck best place for brutes so it is possible to take out enemies with the knife quickly. It would be good for stealth kills. Also I think that the UNSC needs a melee weapon in my opinion.

What do you guys think? and please nothing negative no matter how much you hate the idea i put reasons why its bad and we know that there is a very very strong chance that it wont be in ODST. Well you could say that its for sure not going to be in ODST but im saying what if.

I think it would be cool if when you have NO ammo you take out your knife. Sure it would be smarter if you just picked up ANY gun, but you dont have super powers like MC so you need some melee help.

I was always of the opinion that the melee button would bring out a knife unless you were using a Brute shot or something.

Was I wrong?

Then again, the melee would still be quite weak.

I'd like to have a knife, even in firefight.

The last stand, against ten brutes and 30 grunts with only a knife back in a dark corner.

think about it: what would any human knife do against a covenant energy shield? or a jackal shield? or a hunter? or a flying drone? any vehicle? would a knife do any damage to a berserking brute that can take full clips off any weapon (unless its to the head)?

the only use for a knife would be grunts or sniper jackals (who are usually out of melee reach anyways) not much use for it to be in the halo universe

What if you have a dead brute and need to slice the skin so you can finally eat? I truly would hate to see a knife in a Halo game. This is Halo not Call of Duty and we have melee :D

Did you read what i posted? Jackals are not even that strong an odst could kick its to the curb even with a knife, hunters have two weak spots and why would you use it on a vehicle, berserk brute, and drones? I said stealth kills stealth kills.

waz up

what i would like to see is for a human melee weapon a military grade sword with about the same strength and stuff as a energy sword sort of like the ones that are crossed over the sheild for heroic

Lol they like there Brute well done.

  • 06.29.2009 12:28 AM PDT

Ive read some books in the halo series(fall of reach, first strike and the flood), and almost every time they take a combat knife with them, so why not having combat knife in the games.

  • 06.29.2009 12:30 AM PDT

-blam!- the Free World!!!!

Hey Wolver... but anyways the knife is sort of Halo style (Fred was a specialist with combat knives and Forge owned the The Arbiter with a knife) And I personally don't think it's a bad idea for stealth missions or the vidmaster achievement (go through a level without firing a weapon). Honestly, I think we will get to use it in Reach though.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

And I suppose beating someone who has a covenant energy shield with your fists is more effective?
I dont really care if there is a knife in the game, but nor am I against it. If Bungie decides to put it in Im not going to complain. Personally I dont even like the idea of an ODST so much as thinking about beating a brute, it should be like the last option, if one were to be cornered or something, just to push them away so that one could reload. As it is now one could probably complete the entire game with just using melee attacks.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.

Keep the knives out! Like you said it loses the halo feal. After all mostly you'll be somewhere inbetween the years 2500 - 2600. So i think by then knives would be useless compared to the more advanced technology. The reason why CoD has a knife is because it's based more in the 20th century.

No offence but this game isnt in the 16th century. The halo series takes place betwen 2500 - 2600. Why would they have swords when they have much more advanced technology?

  • 06.29.2009 3:09 AM PDT

I remember seeing in a demo of ODST that the melee was still using the gun but it did weaker damage.

On topic, the knife is just not Halo. We have an uber knife that cuts though armor known as the energy sword.

  • 06.29.2009 3:13 AM PDT

I've always been annoyed at the lack of use concerning knives, even in the books. Do they scrape off shields, or can they penetrate with enough force? Don't know.

It'd be nice, but I doubt it'll ever come through.

Well, Spartans were originaly made to counter terrorist actions, the terrorists did not always have advanced weaponery, sometimes they just had normal handguns, guns that wouldnt do much damage to a Spartans suit (Mjolnir II or whatever). In those cases, equiping a Spartan with a highly advanced vibro (and other cool -blam!-) sword would be much more effective of cleaning up rooms, the freakin blade would pretty much cut through walls. And that leads me into my next reason: cutting stuff, doors, trees, etc.

EDIT: spelling

Well, i think it would work if they make it look more their century like the energy sword rather than a sword used in the 1500s.

Well unfortunately ofr you, they don't. Also, there were combat knives in Halo long before Modern Warfare came out (you know those "swords" on the Normal, Heroic, and Legendary symbols? Yeah, they aren't what you think). Stop following the bandwagon that anything that involves classes, knives, night-vision, and modern technology means it is from Modern Warfare. All these things existed before Modern Warfare even came out.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

As has already been said, knives just don't seem like they would fit in with the rest of the themes that Halo has (grenades, guns, and beating crap with your gun). It's a first-person-SHOOTER, not a first-person-SLASHER ;)

A knife should be incorporated into the game, no doubt. Seem a hell a lot more logically knifing a Brute, then trying to punch an armoured Brute, "you're not Superman, you know". Even though Halo is a sci-fiction game, I still like my fairshare of realism on matters of physics.

Well stabbing a Brute with a knife would only end in your death. Brutes are stronger than any Spartan or Elite. Realistically a Spartan couldn't even melee a Brute.
