who here thinks that if bungie is dumb enough to implement project natal into halo reach in some way the game would just simply be a fail?

  • 06.29.2009 12:22 PM PDT

If I had one wish for Bungie.net, it would be to be able to change my username. Even if it cost me Microsoft Fun-Money, Space Bucks, or Stosh Dollars. That is all.

They are... They talk about it here. Personally, I think it would be fun every once in a while to just really get to feel like you are a Spartan. IMO

Because I don't want my parents or friends to walk in on me while i'm jumping up and down and while pretending i'm holding a gun.

It would not replace a controller, just supplement it...

They talk about it here to.

I agree though, Natal does not seem like the kind of program to combine with halo. I like sitting on my ass shooting -blam!-. I don't want to be more involved then that. This would be a hugh mistake.

  • 06.29.2009 12:35 PM PDT

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

I wouldn't buy reach unless Natal was either not used or optional. Natal is just a chance for Microsoft to suck away some of the wii's audience since it is outselling them. Natal and a full fledged FPS would be like putting -blam!- on a biscuit. It would probably be better with Rail shooters. Plus it completely changes the Halo experience. I for one would definitely pass on Reach if Natal is being forced. I'd rather read about it than go out and buy a one hit piece of -blam!- hardware like the Natal. (I bet it breaks after so many uses)

(I bet Harold Ryan only said he liked it so Microsoft wouldn't cry)

The FPS does not, not need Natal. Natal would most likely not take the place of the standard controller. You'd still be able to sit down and play, but you might use it to bring up menus with the flick of a wrist, or toss a grenade with a nonchalant toss.
A melee might be a quick jab towards the screen like everyone does anyway. The possibilities are endless, so why would you be content with what you have. a few years ago, something like this was almost impossible to conceive and here you are bashing it as useless.

I'm more interested in true virtual reality than a cheap Microsoft product. It might be fun for family games, but FPS would be a fail. Hardcore Halo fans will protest Natal until the end.

It won't replace the controller, don't worry. And Virtual Reality is a long ways off mainly due to the cost.

Its simple business guys.. What would allow for the most sales? A game with Natal, a game without Natal, or a game where Natal is optional..? Its easy. In order to make the most sales AND keep customers happy after purchasing it, they need to implement Natal but as an optional attachment. I.e. have certain interfaces within the game that you can use Natal with but not require one to purchase it to play the game.

Microsoft is the chief financier and will make these decisions based on what will make them the most money. Well, people who buy the controller only version of the game will be happy that they got their beloved Halo game just the way they like it. But being avid Bungie fans, they will want to see what all the hype about Natal is and will want to use it in the game to get the full experience Reach has to offer. Whats better for M$ than to get customers to buy not only one of their games, but a new piece of hardware that goes with it while at the same time keeping EVERYONE happy.

Make sense?

As for campaign vs multiplayer:

Solution: Allow for Natal to be used in Campaign and optional in Multiplayer.

Campaign: Like you guys mentioned.. use it for switches, pickin up things, opening doors, whatever.. I think it would be too slow to use it for actual movement. (Watching the demo there was too big of a lag difference between live movement and player movement... wouldnt be able to dodge fire very well)

Multiplayer: Use controllers for MM. There is too big of a competitive following for Halo and Bungie knows this. Yeah, a lot of people play for fun.. but a lot play for the competitiveness. They will not disregard their success in this field. For people wanting to just play for fun, have a setup where they could use natal if they wanted. It may seem they have a disadvantage at first (learning to use it) but once comfortable with it, who knows? (bumper jumper..?)

-I know what you're thinking, and it's crazy.
-But... what if monkeys really could fly?

I just hate people who judge before they know... There is no -blam!- way you can know if it will be fail or not. I just hope you will be able to play without natal, incase it actually is FAIL.

  • 06.29.2009 1:55 PM PDT

Maybe they could implement it but have an option not to use it if you dont want to, may require a bit of work to enable the use of both controller and Natal but never know, i mean natal is great for those with room to use it but i mean for those people who havent the room to be jumping about 'pretending' to hold a gun and shotting the -blam!- outta grunts and the like then the option to turn it off or on should be there.

I dont want Natal with my Halos.

BUT, I'd be willing to try and be persuaded into changing my mind.

This is true. Natal COULD be great. But based on what I and many others have seen off of E3, its kinda useless. Even if its not out yet theres still enough info for one to determine weather its going to be fun or not..

I like the idea of project Natal but it should have a controller option.

I think that an hybrid system, pad + Project Natal would be awesome!

in such a system we can use PN to:

1) Open doors, use object ---> all the function of the action button

2) Change weapon with a gesture

3) Throw granades with a gesture

4) See beyond corners simply moving the head

5) imagine a gun shaped controller with an analogic directional stick, vibration and a trigger, with such a controller we can aim a target in the best realistic way: simply aligning our eyes, the gun, and the target all in the same line

6) With project natal we may 3Dscansionate our body so that the player in the game may be almost identical to us!

7)in an hybrid system we can use the pad for movement, but another idea is to use for movement the same technique used in Burnout Paradise: one foot foward to move foward, one fot behind to move behind, one foot to the right (or to the left) to move right (or left)

obviously playing with PN will be more fatiguing, and in a deathmatch the pad players are favored, but if what we want is the suspension of disbelief, a giant step to VR, Project Natal is the way!

Loyalty is all I have.

Look people, just cause it uses Natal, does not mean it is gonna be a Wii rail shooter, did everybody forget about the voice and facial recognition? How cool would it be to have the game recognise you and follow your issued commands? No, but that would be too kiddy and sucky and it would ruin the game right? It's called change people, deal with it.

  • 06.29.2009 2:28 PM PDT

What spectagon are you in?

Maybe it could be compatible in campaign or in local forge, but anything else it would epic EPIC EPIC!! fail.

So you have no idea how it will be implemented, if at all, and are already calling it a fail when we know next to nothing about the game....interesting...

Well, that about covers it.

If you're able to control a squad (Similar to the Rainbow Six series), simple hand gestures could be used, such as holding your hand up to tell your squad to "hold", or point forward to "advance", and so forth. As long as we're not physically dodging bullets and grenades Natal may seem pretty cool. Diving out of my chair to avoid a sticky grenade doesn't sound like a good idea in a small room.
