Bungie has stated that we have to find out the "fate" of our squad. Many people assume this means they died, but this is not necessarily true.

That's definitely assuring, the lives of our favorite ODST characters rest ib the hands of a definition in a dictionary.

On a related note, I'm sure someone will die, somewhere, but there would be some epic final act in ODST. I doubt the Rookie's story will end hiding from Covenant patrol in New Mombassa.
