Subject: Should Halo: Reach have improved graphics?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I prefer gameplay features to shiny -blam!- that can be missed.

Gears of War only has 2 player co-op and smaller levels, without vehicles, forge or theater.

COD4 doesn't have ANY local multiplayer, no vehicles, and flatter maps.

All in all, I would rather have the simple graphics with more gameplay.

In the last few years I have seen the Halo Franchise lag behind other games in terms of graphics.
No you haven't. Halo had lighting effects far superior to any other game released at the time. The detailed environments are unmatched by any other game. You see the art style of the characters and mistake that for bad graphical quality. Photorealistic textures do not mean superior graphics. You just don't understand what you're looking at and you fell for the hype on the internet from other people who don't know anything about grahpics.

Halo 3's graphics obviously fell behind COD 4 (came out at nearly the same time) and Gears Of War.
More examples showing that you have no idea what you're talking about. COD4 had photorealistic textures whereas Halo did not. This is art direction, not graphical quality. GOW was very impressive but the game traded off in other areas for those graphics.

Im not saying that graphics is every thing but it would be sweet if Halo: Reach gets graphics on par with the cut scenes from Halo Wars.
Unbelievable. You would like real time rendered graphics on par with pre rendered cut scenes. You are amazing.

That would help the game but not wreck the feeling. Also my friend sujested going cell shaded
You and your friend should buy a different game.

Graphics do not matter, not at all.
Am in TOTAL agreement. Its the playabilty of the game. Not how it looks

When it comes to graphics I am a complete slut, i love them, i crave them, if a game looks bad, it will probably play just as badly. So for me, graphics are as important as replay value!!! otherwise, i would still be playing pong

That being said, I believe Halo: Reach needs to go for a more realistic approach to graphics, such as CoD did. I despise cell shading, it is almost like the developers of cell shaded games lacked the technical skill or patience to band out a really nice piece of work.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

I reall hope that Halo: Reach has improved graphics, hopefully ones that are just as good as the ones from Halo Wars cutscenes, or at minimum ones that are a bit better than GoW 2/COD4 graphics. I adore graphics, but if they are just too bad, I don't want to play the game, however I'm sure everyone does.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

They could make the game look like MK2 for Sega Genesis for all I care, I just want good gameplay.

Graphics are just a bonus, but I'll take them fine tuning game play over making "better looking" overtextured surfaces any day.

You confuse me. Halo 3's graphics are at worst good. Unless you are comparing to GOW 2 or Crysis, that is. Also, cel-shaded Halo is one of the worst ideas i've ever heard.

Even compared to GOW 1 its not as good, its just diffenrent

they are two seperate games they should have different graphics. and if your comparing halo 3 to gow 2 thats like a low blow because gears 2 came out after halo 3

But they really help.

And realism =/= good graphics.

I do pray to god that halo still looks like halo. I dont want a greyed halo.
But they made fun of it with the gloom effect when they announced it, so I doubt it.

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

Yes, it should.

No, I think that Reach should have black and white boxes to represent everything.

  • 06.29.2009 11:13 PM PDT

Let there be light, created from fire

I am all i am, i am a team player(when im not pissed), i make great strategies, i will punch you in the face after armor locking, you have to be at sniper distance to not get headshot by my DMR or pistol, wraiths beware, i am DxXOrangesXxD and i am ready to rumble! (When Halo 4 comes out cause Reach is nothing but crap players now)

Wrong, graphics matter to the degree of immersion, making it look real enough that you get pulled into the game, thats the main goal for graphics to achive

I want to see more realistic graphics.

Halo Landfall is an example of what I want to see for environment damage. When there is an explosion I want to see see debris go all over the place and surface damage to surrounding structures.

I want to see more realistic blood and gore, including limbs and heads being blown off. Plasma scorched bodies would be interesting. Explosion should blow people apart.

Graphics should not have a priority over gameplay though.

You know for Halo: Reach they are using a new engine right?

Got Proof?

They have done it every game.

  • 06.29.2009 11:40 PM PDT

They should but in that Artistically way that halo looks. Maybe putting more detail in the armor (ect.).

Look at Killzone 2's graphics....clearly much much better than Halo 3. Bungie should want to prove they can have the best graphics...Guerilla sure wanted t prove something. And its not like Killzone is any competition for Halo, whatsoever...its just that Bungie should stiull take pride and want to be the best looking.

I pray they choose to use a deffered rendering engine also and blow everyone out of the water. Halo now has a reputation for not having goo graphics, but good gameplay. It should have both to be the best.

First of all, halo 3 had way better graphics then cod 4. Second of all, hardly doubt the graphics will change that much cause bungies probably going to use the same engine as they did for halo 3.

Halo 2 had great looking elites, brutes and spartans. Halo 3 failed all 3 of them

Master Chief looks amazing in Halo 3... one of the best character models in any game are you short sighted?

Can you believe it?

Well, having better graphics wouldn't exactly hurt the game. However like most people said, I prefer good gameplay and "bad" graphics over bad gameplay and good graphics. Both being good would be nice though.
