Heres how to make it work. Each team would have 200 players right? And each team would be divided into 8 groups. Each group would have 25 people and there would be 5 group leaders for each group. The group leaders on each team can automatically private chat with other group leaders on their team and decide which groups defend the base and which groups attack for an example of what they would talk about. The group leaders can boot members of their group who don't cooperate or just mess up the game. What do you think? Also let's say players move faster and there is a sprint option that lets you run at 200% speed. You have pelicans and all that too.

"We sleep peaceably in our beds, because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those that wish to do us harm."

"Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of all those who threaten them."

Horrible idea, I'd have like dozens of random teammates all of whom suck.

200/8=50?

It wont work. If people don't feel valuable they won't enjoy it. That's why btb failed, because i could drive a mongoose around the whole time and we still won. Faster speed would suck. Sprint? Is this call of duty?

If this did end up happening there better be troop transport warthogs.

transport hog, phantom, pelicans, and anything you think would be needed for a big map

And what's wrong with a sprint option? What's with people thinking anything that adds a little more sructure like a cover system or maybe even just hiding behind a wall automatically ruins Halo?

I think a sprint option would ruin a part of Halo's traditional MP style where you always run at the same speed. I think that large multiplayer maps would be good but slightly chaotic. It is already hard enough trying to organize 8 people on a team for BTB. I guess the question is if Bungie WANTS to allow more people in a game and IF they can do it without lag. Remember, Halo 1, 2, and 3 all have a 16 player maximum and Bungie seems traditionalist.

Maybe not 200 people... probably more like 128 on each team. And yes, I want it.

Im not saying that it ruins it, but really? Try to 4 shot a guy sprinting across the screen. It will take away a lot of skill from the game.

i don't like the idea of having someone ordering me around in matchmaking and you get booted if you don't listen....

No thanks. It would kill the aspect of individual skill and teamwork would be almost nonexistent. It also probably wouldn't be as fun as it sounds in theory. The 30 people on each team rushing rockets would be annoying and power weapons wouldn't be as useful.

If any of you have the ability, you could always go to G4TV.com and find a certain game for the OP. It is exactly what the OP is getting at.
The game is called MAG for the PS3, it supports 256 players at once, and from what I saw from the E3 announcement OnDemand, it looked like it had absolutely 0 lag, in fact Halo 3 looked laggy as shiet when I saw this.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME GROUP INVITATIONS

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

That would be stupid as hell. No offense.

Have you ever played BTB alone? Every single time I do I end up losing for the sole fact that my teammates are either horrible at playing the game, or they just don't listen to some logical advice, in which case they are... still horrible players.

You would get so many idiotic randoms just ruining the flow of the game it wouldn't even be funny (and don't say "well go in with a full team of 200" since you can only have 100 friends on your list).

  • 06.29.2009 11:06 PM PDT

I think its a great idea, but lessen the number to maybe 100. If there were a gametype like this, maybe the pelicans and longswords and the really heave vehicles will have a chance to see some action. I personally dont like the idea of a group leader, mostly cus nobody would listen to him/her anyway. and I think there should only be two teams of fifty. CTF and Assault would be epic. I also dont really like the sprint option either... and it wouldn't really matter to me if there were a few jerks who just ran around, they cant really affect the flow of the game in my perspective. But id would just LOVE to be able to have a pelican or two, plus some hornets, and just drop half my team right behind the enemy and totally flank the crap out of him.

  • 06.29.2009 11:24 PM PDT

Laggen' ain't easy

I kinda think the numbers you are throwing around are a just a tiny bit of overkill. I would be perfectly happy 16 vs 16,, or 32 vs 32. Giving the excuse to include all of those big battles we have always wanted. And it makes the inclusion of a drivable pelican and phantom almost mandatory without making it a giant clusterf**ck..

Apparently I am one of the only people on here that actually enjoys BTB. I have always loved the big battles,, but I would love to see them increase in size. Only if they really put some tough fixes on the lag.

Now this is just getting rediculus. Comeback when you have a basic sense of makes a game good. Restrictions are the things you definately dont want. Also the game has no way of knowing you have a mic, and everyone would just plug it in and not use it.

It knows when your controller is unplugged so why wouldn't it be able to detect your mic? Everyone wouldn't always have to communicate, but if lets say the other team starts winning in a capture gametype I think they'll want to chat with the other leaders. Like maybe suggest 6 squads stay behind and guard the flag/bomb/etc whle the other two flank the enemy base from two angles simotaneously.

More about squad system

There would be 8 squads on each 200 player team. In each squad 25 people. Five of those people are the squad leaders for your squad. So there are 40 squad leaders on each 200 player team. You and your squadmates waypoints are purple. Your squadleaders waypoints are blue. Other players who are on your team, but not in your squad waypoints are white. The squad leaders can press down on the d-pad to request vehicle pick up like if they or someone near them has the flag or for other reasons. When they do a menu will pop up and they can choose which vehicle they want for pickup. When they request a vehicle a waypoint will guide teammates who are driving that kind of vehicle to them. Squad leaders can tap left on the d-pad to go into private leader chat with all squad leaders on their team to come up with plans like which squads attack and which defend. They have a icon on there screen that lets them know there are squad leaders private chatting. And a icon will appear over all players on there team who are private chatting either in leader chat, xbox live party, or xbox live private chat. And squadleaders can boot people who don't listen, or mess up the game. They would press the back button to pull up the squad menu and press (y) on a player they want to boot. All of squadleaders have to press (y) on that player to boot them. Squadleaders can only boot players from their squad, and the majority of players+ at least 1squad leader can vote to have a squadleader booted from their squad. At the end of a game 10 players of each squad will be chosen based on how they did by the game for extra exp ,and then their squad leaders will each choose 2 people from their squad to award more extra exp. Assumingly they will choose people who listened to them or no one. There will be a few playlist in which you have to have been chosen for extra exp I would say 10 times before you can play them. There will also be a manditory overview / tutorial of this info so players will know the matchmaking system. You can change squad options like how many squad leaders and people in each squad in custom games, or you can just turn squads off. What do you think?

Read all before you comment!!!

I'd probably hate it. Seems like a rip-off of MAG to me, but it could be cool.

Those two quotes sum it up for me. It would never work. You'd have people booting others on purpose, e.t.c. I want classic Halo.

Seriously, this is beginning to becoe so much of a rip-off of MAG. 200 vs. 200 is practically the same as MAG, so I'm thinking that more like 30-50 vs. 30-50 would be better. And anyways, it would take a long time to organize games like that.

Beisdes 200 vs 200 players what else is a rip off? I don't think I know what MAG is. There would be a certain amount of time befor the game starts so each team can come up with a plan. They would just talk about which squads would go where on the map and such. I don't see how it's that complicated.

It won't be easy for them to boot people for no reason because they have to vote to boot a player. People will most likely listen to you. Read my last post about the squad system.

That still doesn't change the fact that people will be jerks. They can and will award EXP to their friends, all of the Squad Members can simply boot someone that they don't like. It's a terrible idea. You can't trust players to be in charge of a game.

Oh, and I'd like to add this too:

MAG is practically what you said, a massive action game. Something like 200+ players vs another 200+ players, divided into squadrons, etc.
