Subject: Halo Reach Will NOT be a failure because of Natal.

Johnny D.

Just think, has Bungie ever let their fans down when they implement something new into their games? The fact is, whatever Bungie does, they do it with quality. Look at dual wielding, people were skeptical of it being added to Halo 2, but when we all got our hands on the game it was a very fun concept that worked smoothly with the game. If Bungie decides to implement Natal, i'm sure they will do it in an intelligent and fun way. They arent retards they know how to make a game.

Just have some faith people.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Of course it wont. Natal wont be the main control system. It'll be optional. That's the only way I can even see them implementing it. Optional controlling can't make a game fail.

yeah but it will not work well with a FPS you'll be in front of your screen holding a imaginary gun with a lagging trigger finger

Of course it can't, hence why it's optional. It's only there if you want it. Anyways, I think Natal will be a fun expansion to the game because you'll have an even better feeling that you're in control and really in the game, but I would still enjoy using controllers just as much.

  • 06.29.2009 9:32 PM PDT

Err..dual wielding went in smoothly? Many people called Halo 2's dual wielding unbalanced and unnecessary (Plasma Rifle+SMG > 90% of other combinations).

Back on topic, I sincerely hope that Bungie does not implement Natal. Natal, from what I've seen, will be almost useless in a shooter scenario. Even outside the shooting aspects of the game, other topics seem to speculate the only use of Natal could be for a training exersize for the Spartans and for flipping a coin.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If it's not an advantage to them then they can choose not to use them. That's the magic of making it optional.

Johnny D.

in my opinion halo 2's dual wielding added a fresh new option and tactic as to how to play the game. You could easily get by without it and it wasnt forced on anyone.

  • 06.29.2009 9:35 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

It'll be cool, but I'll be sticking to the traditional controller.

I think that implementing Natal as an optional way of controlling the game would be fun, and maybe even still if it was used as the main way to, because, as I stated before, you get to actually feel like you're in the game, however you may look a bit stupid running around, kneeling down to pick up weapons, etc.

I'm not saying that it should be the main way, just an optional way to control the game.

Horrible example. Dual wielding butchered the weapon sandbox. It's "optional," but the fact that all dual wieldable weapons are worthless on their own isn't. And if Natal is the same sort of "optional" in that the gameplay is altered to allow it to work, then it will ruin REACH. Maybe not for Wii-kids, but it will ruin it for most of us.

The only thing I'd say about that is I don't see a way Natal can be that kind of optional. It's just another way of doing something you can do with a controller.

You don't get it, do you?

If standing in front of your screen pretending to hold a gun is lame....don't you think Bungie would notice? Don't you think any of their playtesters would inform them? Do you really believe they would mess up that bad?

If it's implemented at all, it would first of all be optional and second of all be integrated in a manner that augments the game. I can gaurantee you Bungie is not going to destroy their game by implementing Natal in some goofy manner. They're not idiots.

Personally, I would envision it used for the UI. You could use it to flip between setup screens or stat screens with hand motions. Just for the fun of it. Since the install base will not be anywhere near 100% for the first year it would not be implemented in any manner that you couldn't choose to bypass it entirely.

Thank you. this is what I've been trying to say, Bungie knows how to make fun first person shooters. They wouldnt use Natal unless they knew it would work.

What are you talking about? I've achieved a vast amount of kills with weapons that could be dual-wielded. And you're underestimating Bungie's capabilities, if they do choose to implement Natal into the gameplay, they're obviously going to do it smoothly like how OP said. Bungie can figure out some way to implement it into the gameplay without ruining the fun of us gamers, but really, if they did ruin the gameplay by implementing Natal, then that would suck.

The Wii sucks. Period. They're only for the small little kids and people who are overweight, although there are some exceptions.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

The Battle Rifle is a good weapon, don't get me wrong, but I agree if you think it's an OP weapon. I hope they degrade it a bit more, I think that it still is OP.

there is a problem with that though. natal in my book is a problem in itself. how would natal work in a fps, walking into ur tv? cant work in an rts. and a third person shooter would be a letdown. plus the franchise has come so far but natal is very limited to experiment. how do u snipe. and how about people who cant walk what the cant play the new halo game cause they don't have the ability. natal is trying to do something but it is not working.

Sometimes when I'm playing and I can't move in some direction fast enough I start to lean.

I want Natal set up so that when I fall backwards off the coffee table I'm sitting on it implements a perfect combat roll in the game.

Natal should have some kind of treadmill like platform, so you don't run into your T.V. That problem is a stupid one. And sniping you probably have something to do with on your rifle, maybe if they have a scope just make it so your character is actually looking into it? And for the people who are disabled, we already stated that it should be an optional game style.

Why is it some of you can't imagine anything other than walking around your room pretending to be a Spartan?

Are you serious?

I'm glad none of you are designing games. Maybe you should take a moment to familiarize yourself with multi-touch and virtual interface technologies before you try to offer any more opinions on Natal.
