It is a new game. This is a chance for Bungie to take Halo in a new, better direction. It doesn't have to be a Call of duty type of Halo, but this is a chance for them to put logic into their game.

Why should an assault rifle sound like a popcorn machine? Why should a melee have 10 feet of lunge and 90 degree auto aim? Why should a rocket travel at 50 feet per second? Why should 4 direct scorpion tank shots not kill a player?

If you are going to talk about how the in the future, everything is different, then you might as well say that Halo has non futuristic vehicles.

Todays aircraft can easily destroy banshees, phantoms, hornets, etc.

And the pistol fires the same round as a desert eagle. Why would they sound different?

Posted by: Skiracer93
I don't know why, but I think it would make the game sound more stupid. We are all ready used to the sounds that are used know. If Bungie changed them it would overpower the game. Plus there is just something that wouldn't feel right about the game taking place in the future but the guns sound like the past. I think the weapon sounds are what set Halo apart from other games and reminds you that you are in the future not still in the past. Besides, the pistol is not a Dessert Eagle so why should it sound like one? Even if they modify the sound.

HERECY! Just kidding. Halo's story is far better than any implimented in any other game I have ever played. If you read the books you'll see that the physics in the game are only there for balance. Let them destroy a Hornet, the Pelican can annihilate about everything we have. Longsword fighters would make mince-meat of our air force. The tank only takes a single shot to kill someone when you fire it right. Don't blame Bungie because you can't aim.

The fallen shall be remember as the finest of all Spartans!

CoD 6 weapons sounds really quiet same as 4 was. They are so quiet unsuppressed.

If you count Call Of Duty 2: Big Red One this is call of duty 7

I agree with you on those parts. The Assault Rifle sounds absolutely horrible. It just sounds like a bunch of vibrations, that's it.

Yep

Melee having 10 feet of range is just stupid, but maybe not for Spartans, as you most likely remember that they've been enhanced.
A spartan is 7 feet tall. I can understand 5 feet of lunge.

And I Rockets only travel like 15-25 feet per second, and that I think is somewhat alright considering their technology.
Please, watch this video. Physics do not allow for an object to fly through the air for more that 15 feet at that speed.

On the vehicles, those are more for closer to ground action rather than high up air action, like our fighters. Our fighters are more suited to fighting tens of thousands of feet across the air, and they have Longswords, Seraphs, etc.
I suppose. But airplanes can still fight near the surface of the Earth. It is just more dangerous.

I never said anything about Halos story.

Pelicans? Are you serious? Those things have no stealth technology and the only thing truly special about it is that it can go in space. Longswords are the only thing besides the cruisers that are capable of destroying todays military.

Is there some special way to fire the tank? Because last time I checked, when a 90mm tungsten core, high explosive round hits a person, and surrounds them with an explosion, they should die. Yet on avalanche, I did that 4 times before a player finally died. And then it was the splash damage that got him.

Only a select few are suited to fly near the ground, still being safe at 500 feet. An F-22A can fight near the ground, but so can Longswords and Seraphs.

Alright for the rockets one, as that video was confusing.

I can lunge, let's see...I can lunge at about 4 feet with an extra jump, I'm kind of short. Seeing as Spartans are 7 feet tall, yeah, 5 feet seems about right, maybe at maximum 6-7 feet. I think 10 feet you added like an extra two feet. I've never lunged ten feet in Halo.

Yah I wouldn't take the gameplay physics as a true representation of the UNSC or Covenant or compare real-life military to them either. They are gameplay mechanics designed for fun/balance as opposed to realism. If you analyse the weapons and vehicles of Halo from a realism perspective you can tear them to pieces as they do not make any sense.

Rockets travel slow because they are so powerful, Spartan Laser has only five shots because it kills stuff too easy, Sniper has a 4round clip so you can't dominate indefinitely, Warthog is very open so opponents have a chance of popping you in the head, SMG has a big clip so you can eat away at people etc.

But I absolutely agree about the sound of the AR. It is awful, just terrible. The MA5B from H1 sounded awesome, the MA5C does sound like popcorn.

Sorry, it was the best video I could find quickly. Basically the important part was the first 30 seconds. When the solider fired the rocket launcher, about 1.5 seconds later, it detonated on the ground which was at least half a mile away.

I have seen crazy stuff in Halo. People lunging their body length is common place now.

Are you serious? Pelicans can be decked in a number of ways. Machine guns, missle ports, light chain gun in back. Not to mention armored. If you remember the Scarab mission from Halo2 when the Scarab reaches the end of the bridge. Pelicans hold it there for you. (Not literally, but they barrage the thing with missiles)

As for the tank, either you aim bad or he was laggy. Either way it only takes one shot to kill Spartan and Elite alike. Just aim for the torso and let them have it. I've killed and been killed countless times with a single shot.

What I am trying to change is the way the weapons sound. They sound so plastic. The sniper sounds a lot like when you bang to metal plates together. What is wrong with making the guns sound more realistic?

  • 06.30.2009 11:29 AM PDT

Or they could just make it so you can put a silencer on the AR so that they wouldn't have to alter the sound.

I am going to get into an argument over whether a video game vehicle can beat a real life vehicle.

But todays aircraft can be armed the same way. The pelican is like an advanced version of the V22 Ospray.

And I supposed it does lag..

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Ever heard of science Fiction?

But we don't have guns from 500+ years in the future. And if we are still using bullets 500 years in the future, they would still sound the same.

Posted by: Council Elite 12
Considering that this takes place in the future, 500+ years into the future, I'm not quite sure that they would be sounding like these modern guns.

Why are people so angry over having guns that sound like guns?

Maybe because we like the idea that all weapons for gameplay purposes should sound different rather than all sounding the same as an AK47.

Oh by the way the plasma pistol and the plasma rifle sound sooooo fake should get some real noise /sarcasm

Ok guys This is a video game... if you want realism play rainbow 6 vegas, modern warfare or join the actual military..... plus who cares what sounds like what?

  • 06.30.2009 11:57 AM PDT

Let there be light, created from fire

I am all i am, i am a team player(when im not pissed), i make great strategies, i will punch you in the face after armor locking, you have to be at sniper distance to not get headshot by my DMR or pistol, wraiths beware, i am DxXOrangesXxD and i am ready to rumble! (When Halo 4 comes out cause Reach is nothing but crap players now)

the SMGs sound perfect to me

  • 06.30.2009 11:58 AM PDT

My god people its a -blam!- video game.

By the way UNSC could own our army. And the whole Hornet thing, they are light aircraft. They are the equivalent to a helicopter. Pelicans are the equivalent to fighter jets. Besides one frigate could own the world.

alright well.. im gonna start off by letting you know you're a -blam!- tool.

its 500 years in the future, guns probably wont sound the same... u said urself.. guns might sound different but bullets will sound the same...

bullets dont make noise the reaction that shoots the bullet out of the chamber makes noise

if you shoot a pistol and then u put a silencer on the same pistol.. they'll sound different.. but theyre still shooting the same bullet. worthless thread

What is a flaw to one person isn't to another. I think they sound fine. If I was firing an SMG in H3 and is sounded like a real one it would feel weird because there are no guns like it. In this game you take the role of a super soldier who can jump like 7 feet in the air. I don't want the game feeling and sounding like things I already know. I want a new experience and new sounds to listen to.

On a side note: I'm also quite excited for MW2 because the realistic feel of it is something I love when I'm in the mood for that. I just like variety and H3 gives you that.

Rofl, every science fiction movie?

And also a guns sound can be varied. Just because you only like the sounds of guns that you know doesn't mean that these future weapons have to sound like them too.
