um a rifle today would hurt your ears after a while of shooting without ear plugs specialy a 357 i was stupid to shoot that beast without ear plugs couldnt hear for an hour.but think about it.its 500 hundred years in the future, the guns will have smoother machanisms and probobly built in suppresors and the bullet probably isnt propeled by gun powder.
1. I can't think of a single rifle chambered in .357.
2. Ear plugs=neccessary. Trust me.
3. Read my earlier post on page 8 for reasons about why built in supressors don't work.
4. Bullets are bullets. They require gun powder or some other form of explosive to travel. Explosives make noise.
Sorry to use the old, lame excuse that it is 500 years in the future. And I agree with you, especially on the assault rifle, it needs to be more realistic. But the propulsion of the bullets has changed in some cases. Case and point=Gauss Turret. Magnetically propelled=little noise. Might as well complain that the plasma doesn't sound right because you don't know what propulsion they use in the future. It doesn't horribly detract from the gameplay. It is a minor flaw.
Yes, the Gauss cannon does sound different. But, like you said it's because it's magnetically propelled. However, most weapons in the game use BULLETS. Bullets are propelled by a controlled explosion of gunpowder in the chamber of the weapon, which produces the pressure necessary to propel the round. The Gauss cannon does not fire bullets, it simply fires projectiles. Yes, there is a difference. A bullet contains the projectile, casing and propellant. The Gauss cannon simply accelerates the projectile, with no casing and the magnets being the propellant.
However, I have yet to find a credible way to explain the existance of the Gauss cannon, as the power requirements for it to propel a projectile at hypersonic speeds would be rather immense. I have yet to discover the required micro-fusion reactor on the weapon, only the container for the projectiles.
It's not a minor flaw in the gameplay. Have you every heard the Battle Rifle, for instance, fired in slow motion? I'm not sure what it sounds like, but a firearm is not it. It really kills the immersion factor when the weapons don't sound like, well, weapons.
