I used to eat Sammiches all the time, but that time is now over.

EDIT Since I guess I didn't make this clear, I'll make it so:

THE SCARRING GOES AWAY AFTER YOU DIE, AND(maybe) STAYS ON IF YOU LIVE AT THE END OF THE MATCH WITH DAMAGE

Hey guys, not sure if there is already a thread about this, so I'm making one.

I think that the armor should get dents and holes in it when you are shot at. Like, after your shields go down, the outer layer of your armor will chip away, exposing the metal underneath, and I believe will make the game look more realistic.

If you don't die, the battle scarring(term I will be using for this) will stay, but will not affect your health the next time your shields go down.

With plasma weapons, it does not chip the armor as much as "burn". Like, spots of the armor where the plasma hit would lose the color. With the needler, there will be a small perforation where the needle went in.

With the sword, a deep gash across the armor.

I'm not really sure how the hammer, fuel rod cannon, rocket launcher, and gernades will work though.

If the lag isn't too much, I would very much like to see this implemented int Halo:Reach.

Oh, and post your ideas on this, and how the system should work with any weapons that I forgot.

One more thing- in campaign, if you play from one level to the next, the scarring stays.

I like it. I think it would be cool if it was minor stuff and it stayed permanently on your armor. That way you would know an experienced player when you saw one.

  • 06.30.2009 1:18 PM PDT

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

what about when you die or respawn?
other than that i like.
it's one of the things i wished was in halo 2.

Laggen' ain't easy

I love this idea. I always wanted something like this to be implemented. I think the only thing preventing it would be disk space and lag. If they can find a way to dodge all of that then I am all for it.

when you die, the scares stay on the dead guys armor.

When you respawn, you have no scares.

As much as that would be cool, it would cause lag. Most games that do that have connection problems because it is constantly trying to process the armor damage, and everything else as well.

Unless it was pre-programmed, and not an algorithm

sorry for my Idiocy, but whats the difference between an algorithm and the pre-programmed. I'm not that technical.

Actually, I just thought of something. For certain achievements on Multiplayer (lets say, play 100 ranked slayer matches) you can get a battle-scarred armor piece. Like, it has some bullet holes, some plasma scoring, and such. And as you get more achievements, you can unlock different armor colors. Like faded green and such, from so much use.

I don't join any group that spams me in PM so don't try it.
SPAM applies to anything that is copy and pasted, it is very obvious when you do so don't say you wrote it. Also if you argue with me on the nature of things contained in this signature, you will be blocked and never removed. If you send to me in XBox live you will be Avoided, Blocked, and a complaint will be filed for harassment.

There's a big void here that has to be filled, but Computers are stupid. Either the dents and scratches are preprogrammed to appear at points on the armor that is not necessarily where you were shot or use an inefficient handling system that places the spots on the armor. There are dozens of problems with this. It can be glitchy or even fail completely. Also it would cause more network lag as the system sends dent information over an already clogged connection.

So, in short, no.

Yes. There will be problems with this. But I was kinda hoping Bungie could come up with a way to work it out.

so, A pre-programmed system would most likely be best for what I am talking about. But, I believe it should be a very detailed system, where there are many sections that are programmed to respond to different types if weapons. But, wow, that would be a LOT of work for people.

Remember,
It is easy to be male
it is another thing to be a man.

I like this idea. I think the most plausible way to get 'battle damaged' armour would be via amour augments and/or achievements.

It would look real good through and like you said a good indicator early on in the games to how experienced the player is. Maybe it would only be unlocked after so many kills rather than exp to stop it becoming widespread and therefore meaningless

  • 06.30.2009 2:22 PM PDT

Love that idea I was going to post something about this but you already did. It would be really cool if your visor cracked and chipped aswell and blood from enemies you killed goes on your armour and visor.

like you get shot in the head your armor has a hole in the visor stuff like that, charred armor from the flame thrower, or plasma burns where your armor is melting

Serving up an unhealthy amount of sarcasm since 1990

What happns when you play 700+ games? Your armor would go from looking cool and scarred, to looking like a bolted together tin-can.

what do you think about massive damage like decapitation or limbs being blown off not permanent of coarse

Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Wars

Personally, I think it's fine the way it is... maybe make it optional?

Nah. Halo's gore is fine the way it is. We don't need gallons of blood like in Gear of War.

(Not to mention that the Spartan armour most likely prevents those things from happening.)

it would be pretty funny. plus the armor has gaps

I'd say only implement it in Campaign. In matchmaking/online custom games it would make lag.

Actually, i'd say have it like the putting your gun down option works in Halo 3; only on local.
