I like it. I think it would be cool if it was minor stuff and it stayed permanently on your armor. That way you would know an experienced player when you saw one.

or someone who dies alot....

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

X Men Origins: Wolverine did a great job with this.

It would be really cool to have it, especially if the damage was keyed to the weapon that dealt it.

For example, have different marks for plasma, spikes, explosives, needles, etc.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Something like this is a nice addition, but I don't think it would do much to impact gameplay. Not to mention it would need to be implemented appropriately, meaning armor damage wouldn't even occur unless your shields were down (assuming your a Spartan). Not to mention the fact that after a point, your amor shouldn't be "scaring" it should be coming apart. Having a suit of armor that is scarred from head to toe, but otherwise in tact would be kind of cheesy IMO.

Something like this couldn't make it's way into MP, much like the reflective visors in the Halo3 beta, it adds more data to be sent and cause lag/latency in unneccesary ways.

Yea, it only scares if your shields are down, and I think that It should be campaign/offline multiplayer only thing. It would just cause too much lag. Thanks for the input.

that would be sick. but they shouldnt make it too good, or else it would lag up the game, but stil have it scar a little, rather then stay shiny forever

  • 07.02.2009 6:06 PM PDT

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

An amazing idea I was expecting in Halo 3 and one that is also very possible without lag. How do I know? Well, from other game's and even Halo itself.

Okay, so first, lets take Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Not much like Halo, but there is a point to this When someone is shot, a red mark will appear, to show the wound. Not only this, another mark of red will graually expand around the wound, to imitate blood soaking into the fabric. This shows that not only are wound graphics possible, they can be animated too!

Now, lets get back to Halo. There are two important facts I want to make clear, that show the possibility of battle scarring.
The first is obvious. Ever shot a wall? What happens when you do? A little mark appears. So, if we can let battle scars apear on scenery, why not on character models? I'm no programmer, but I'm sure that simle marks wound be just as possible.

My final point is about Halo: CE, more specifically, the Engineers. Now we all know the Engineers never appeared in Halo: CE, however by modding the game, you could spawn them. So whats my point? Well, if you where to shoot one, but not kill it, bubbles would appear at the point you shot it at. In other words, wound graphics. And not just that, animated wound graphics! In Halo: CE. On the Original Xbox! So if it was possible then why not now?

So, yes, this is a must. It would also be a great sign to show how long someone has been surviving. Not only that, it would look pretty goddamn cool :P

Awesome? Check
Possible? Check
The decision ain't hard Bungie.

Hammer, Rocket, and Vehicle hit should be a big dent or such, while fuel rod should be a large charred burn.

Halo IS NOT REALISTIC.

So why try to make it that?

I know Halo isn't realistic. I just had this idea because I thought it was cool. if this was realistic, the more shots you have in your armor, the slower you would go. I'm not saying that the markings affect your character, but are solely an appearance thing.

This is actually another good idea, compared to most I see on these forums.

I'd like to see my whole body (as in the character I am playing as) move or react to getting shot and stuff. Make it Halo, but realistic. I'm sure if a Spartan got shot, he would react instead of just running away.

  • 07.05.2009 2:25 PM PDT

I love the idea, but like others I agree it would be too much for the game to handle. I think adding achievements where you can get scarred armor would be the best approach.

Definitely wouldn't work...here's my explanation:

All of the Halo books give off the same general feel about Covenant/human weapons and the damage that they cause. A single shot from a plasma rifle onto a non-shielded MJOLNIR armor piece melts the armor rather than burning the paint off...Fuel Rod Guns physically disintegrate the armor...An energy sword (i imagine) wouldn't just cut the armor; it would cut right the way through the armor and into the person...

That wouldn't work because Bungie have never had a "proper" gore system in any Halo games and imagine having all your armor burned off of you and then having that burning touch your skin...
1. You would melt upon contact and alot of blood/gore would appear
2. The almighty scream that any person would let out would be too much for any actor to portray and would probably be too bad to be put into a game...

Now it's time for your counter theory to my counter theory :)

  • 07.05.2009 6:43 PM PDT

Underwater Eagle.

That would be really cool, except when you had taken oodles of hits, and your armor became unrecognizeable.

I think that it should be a customizable thing. As your rank increased you should unlock further levels of armor damage. That way the Pros look like veterans in combat. Oh course its only an option, the highest ranked player could have brand new looking armor.

You should also be able to increase how dirty your armor is. That would be available by default though.

I take up your challenge:

1) a lot of blood and gore would not appear because you would be burned, and there would be no blood, because the wound would have been burned shut instantly.

2)well, yes. But, If the first one is true, the person would be dead before he/she could scream.

Halo does have a slight core system. Ever slash an elite with an energy sword? Blood comes out. The same thing can be used. And you are right about the energy sword, but you will be dead.

The plasma weapons in the game are weakened a little from the books, to make it more fair, so for game purposes it burns off the paint, and when you die it burns through.

Bungie might be able to implement a gore system, if they wanted. It has been done before.

Oh, thanks for bringing that up. Can't work out teh problems if no one mentions them.

I like it. I think it would be cool if it was minor stuff and it stayed permanently on your armor. That way you would know an experienced player when you saw one.

But then your armor wouldn't be how you designed it. And also, what if you died? That wouldn't make sense to stay there.

When you die, the armor losses it's scares.

I think he is referring to the "permanent" comment. Like you can see it on something similar to H3's Service Record. I would like that and it would be less likely to cause any lag.

Nah. Halo's gore is fine the way it is. We don't need gallons of blood like in Gear of War.

(Not to mention that the Spartan armour most likely prevents those things from happening.)

I read this same damn thing over and over again, and it keeps gettin funnier every time.

For God's sake, Tough =\= indestructable!

If anyone's taken a quick look at the Halo arsenal and what the spartans are up against, do you honestly think they would just bounce and flip around? I do, just in every direction at once. Look at the spartan lazer. That HUGE red beam that doesn't stop when it hit's your chest. That huge red glowing liquid splash effect it makes on impact. That's MORE than enough to pierce or even SHRED the armor in the game. Armor doesn't protect, it just makes you die slow enough to fight off whatever's killing you. If you die, that probably means the armor has failed.
