Subject: Battle Scarring system

Big Halo Fan
Makes descent machinima.

hey i have an idea what about to cause less lag it wouldn't be permanant it would slowly fade away like when we shoot walls the bullet decals go away after 30 seconds. Of course this wouldn't be as fun, but it makes it more plausible.

Also another thing is I noticed on a video of ODST where ur able to take you're helmet off in the appearance menu. Maybe in Reach someone can knock you're helmet off and a preset face would appear. Like you could chose 5 characters for example the people in the reach poster.

what about when you die or respawn?
other than that i like.
it's one of the things i wished was in halo 2.

when you die, the scares stay on the dead guys armor.

When you respawn, you have no scares.

offcourse, brilliant Idea :)

I wouldn't mind getting "pre determind" damage to my armor as long as it didn't cause lag, so as long ass that is pre-implemnted I would really like it. it'd be cool to get a damaged armor peices for hitting a 4th lvl officer rank like staff capt.- strike commander & ect. if you pass one rank you can get it by hitting a higher 4th lvl rank, I think that'd b cool, instead of an easy acheivment or something anyone can do quickly ((unless they are good of course)) That'd have been better than the Katana body peice to me.

I used to eat Sammiches all the time, but that time is now over.

so, you want to get armor variants for killing a higher level player than you? I don't think that would work.

thats a pretty good idea but with things like explosives there would probably have to be more gore like missing limbs or big holes in people if the explosive like a rocket hit them directly

It is what it is.

My real gamertag is Boomerf16.

I actually think there's a good chance of this happening (unlike all the other crazy ideas floating around). If you look at the video of a game using Reach's engine it shows walls falling apart in tons of different ways when they're shot at. Not knowing how video games work, I'm assuming Bungie can apply this effect to armor.

what about cracks and holes in the visor?

  • 08.09.2009 6:48 PM PDT

yeah but then i think there should be some sort of new powerup besides the overshild that restores your aurmor or make so the overshield is only way to get your aurmor back to normal (besides dyeing)

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

Interesting. I like it.

As much as that would be cool, it would cause lag. Most games that do that have connection problems because it is constantly trying to process the armor damage, and everything else as well.

Unless it was pre-programmed, and not an algorithm

sorry for my Idiocy, but whats the difference between an algorithm and the pre-programmed. I'm not that technical.

An algorithm randomly generates a result based off of what hit your spartan, where, how, etc.

A pre-programmed damage image would work much like when you shoot a warthog repeatedly. No matter where you shoot it, it gets damaged the same way.

about the cracks in the visor, I think that that would be cool. It would have to be pre-programmed, so no matter what your visor cracks in the same place every time.

I have a new idea!

When someone gets a headshot on you with a sniper rifle, I would like to see your face cave in. Like, the visor breaks, and it comes out the back of your head. And blood would be their.

Yes, I've been playing Gears of War recently.

And So Forerunner And Flood Became One.

Thatd be awesome,But if they cant perfect the scarring without lagging ill doubt theyll add it to the game.

yea, lag would be a major problem. But, the damage can be like the damage done to vehicles. No matter where you hit it, the damage done to it always looks the same.

I like the idea, but i wonder if Bungie would take the time to do anything like that.
