Because you said John was one of the lucky 75 who made it to the end.

No I didn't, I said that John was one of the lucky 75 to get into the Spartan-II project. Read it again.

So it went from 150, to 75, down to 33? I don't remember that.

Oh but is is true. Go read the novels or look it up on the internet. Or better yet read some of the threads here.

Here's how the subtractions work.

150 original candidates, cut it in half to get 75. However, 42 of those 75 died, leading to 33 Spartans that completely finished their Spartan training, augmentations, etc.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

150 were going to be included, 75 were kidnapped (all 150 couldn't because they had a limited budget) and only 33 survived the augmentation process (that we know of... Halsey said there were 3 KIAs before Reach, yet 30 Spartans were there, and the 3 members of Grey Team were too far away... where did the KIAs come from?)

That doesn't make sense, weird.

Even stranger...

In TFoR it states that "two dozen Spartans clustered around him" (John-117) making the number to go on the mission 25. But on the eve of the attack, there were 30 Spartans: where did the extra 5 come from? Could it have something to do with the Spartans in the banner (possibly the full team from Spartan BLACK?)

Possibly. I think that the authors need to learn math again, haha.

Unless you consider the past to be "alternate" then there is no reason to think as much. The game (regardless of what it's based on) will not be verbatum of any novel, that would be foolish. As such it is going to have some different dialouge, but the key events (provided they follow the books) will most likely remain intact.
Um...

I think what he is trying to say is...

Maybe something happened on the Halos or the ark that cause the past to change. So if the takes place on reach with no time travel, it'd be different.
Let's say the following represents time. The P= Past F=Future and R= Reach

P____________________________R_________________________F

Now say something caused the time line to skew out of direction.
P__________________________ ___________________________F
............................................................. .\
............................................................. ...\
............................................................. .... \_AReach____________________AF
Different out come.
the only way to fix it is to go to the past as going to the future simply takes you to the alternate future. The only problem with this theory is that then the event in the future never takes place. Causing a paradox.

Reach was glassed and was made uninhabitable, it's basically a dead planet. How can it be a sequel anymore? It's not a point of interest anymore either.

I'm talking BEFORE the glassing. During the attack. Something after reach messed up the past before the fall of reach. Changing everything.

How does something in the future mess up the past? That's basically defying time right there, and about the Halos and the Ark, they do not change time. The Ark and Halos don't do anything really time-related.

The Legendary planetoid looks nothing like (pre-attack) Reach.

If you look at the Legendary ending again, it looks sort of like Earth, whereas when you look above it's a huge, orange planet. ???

By going back in time. I'm not supporting the idea. Just simply explaining it. Maybe not the Halos or the Ark, or even the portal. But if something went fast enough... faster than the speed of light. Then it could be possible to time travel.

Note that is VERY... EXTEMELY unlikely....

If something just goes at the speed of light that isn't going fast enough to reverse time. And yes, it indeed is very unlikely. And I do realize that going back in time is the only way to mess up something in the past from the future.

From the Begining You Know The END!!!!!
Seriously that should end all of the speculation, it doesn't say " Change the future of Halo" Bungie is very upfront with what they're bringing to the table, a FPS prequel

The Spartans don't go higher up in numbers, they just all consolidate their power on a single place: Reach. [/quote]

Huh? Not to seem rude, but what does that even mean?

What I'm saying, in simpler words, is that all of the Spartans group together, so their numbers literally become greater.

And when it goes up to 259, what he's saying is 2-59, as there was a second batch of Spartans created after the original Spartan-II program.

Simpler words huh, this is completely different from what you initially said, not even close. Thank you for spelling out what you meant as your initial statement was far off the mark.
