Subject: Realisitc Ragdoll Physics in Reach?

Today I just remembered an awesome Weekly Update from all the way back in February of 2008.

In this update, Lukems talked about how Bungie's Engineers were testing new animations and techniques for "future projects" involving the physics of the human body. To accomplish these tests, the used Halo 3 models to fire Avery Johnson into a giant Pa-blam!-o (What, I can't say Pach1nko? Cmon...) Machine.

Various Future Projects? Sounds like Halo Reach to me, they were probably tinkering around with the physics as they probably were prototyping (don't know the exact gaming development stage phrase for this) Reach.

So, what purpous does shooting Avery Johnson into a giant Pa-blam!-o machine serve when running tests about how the physics of a game work? Are we going to be finally getting ragdoll physics with dead bodies instead of the same bicycle arms in mid air over and over?

Pics for those too lazy to click on the weekly update link:

@Geegs30

Hopefully it will be a little more consistent.
You can shoot through living heads with a sniper rifle, but not a dead helmet?
Cmon now

When would you need to shoot through the helmet of someone who is dead?

It dosent matter if you need to or not. The physics need to be better and thats an example of why there bad.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I remember that. Maybe we'll have a system that doesn't turn them into stretch armstrong toys upon impact.

I have actually had dead bodies save enemies's lives from my sniper bullets before, that is why.

If Bungie used the Euphoria engine, it would make the game much better. But knowing Bungie, they will probably just use their own engine :(

Would you dance for it?

Damn I hope so...

For all of its greatness, Halo 3's physics are pretty weak.

Someone glancing off the front of a Wraith like a boucy ball? Too many times to count.
