Veritas Aequitas

So I just finished beating Halo 3 for fun and was watching the ending. I read up on everyone's theories about the planet and it's possible connection with the new game.

There are a couple things that should be noted in regards to supporting some previous theories and debunking them. Here are my observations:

+First and foremost, Reach in the trailer has water and land masses. It is not a complete
"city planet". The planet at the ending of Halo 3 is completely covered in technology. The
planet on the release video for Reach is not. Though we could be looking at the planet from
two different perspectives (i.e. two different angles), it's unlikely.

+Second, we know for a fact that the UNSC has been working on more SPARTAN projects
and wants to continue that work. From the forms of the figures in the "cover" we can see
that not all of those "SPARTANS" are the same. We know that on the "first Reach" (more on
that in a second) they created all SPARTANS in the same class and of the same gear and
orientation. They were all similar with similar abilities. Each of the figures in the picture are
different, holding different weapons and have different gear (i.e. the figure on the far left has
a heavy machine gun and heavy armor, making him more of a heavy hitter).

+ Third, in the intro to the Reach announcement, there are no Covenant ships in the
surrounding space area of the planet. The only object in space we see is what appears to
be a ruptured MAC gun, however, this could be interpreted as Master Chief's half of FOD.
Though this is what they call in the theory business "reaching" it's still a possibility.

So now onto the theory: (ooooo boy :O)

The planet we see in the video of Reach is not the First Reach from FALL OF REACH (the novel and Halo history) but rather, a new Reach, made after the storyline of Halo 1, 2 and 3. The SPARTAN program has continued and thrived, with the introduction of new Spartan types (like the Spartan 3's). This new planet is now under attack from some unknown entity. The entity is already on the planet (or just beyond the camera's view in the video) and is attacking UNSC and civilian forces on the surface. We know that it's not the Legendary Planet because of what's on the surface, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Chief isn't in the game.

The Chief is "far off in space" at the end of Halo 3, but who is to say that time hasn't passed between 3 and REACH. With a new REACH made after the first one, and the SPARTAN program restarted and perfected after John's "success", we have ourselves a possibility of John already being found, or being found during the course of the game. Whose to say that in the middle of this game, assuming the rest of this theory is in the right airwave, that the Chief isn't found and brought to the planet or picked up at the end?

So theory in a nutshell?

We're looking at a new planet, named Reach or nicknamed Reach because it is in a similar perdicament (also, could Reach simply be a military nickname for the first planet?). The new spartans are ready for action with different armor and gear depending on their skills, and we have the possibility of recovering John 117 assuming that time has passed between 3 and now and his signal has been recovered.

So yea, flame, discuss, have fun :)

and so my theory shatters! Though you can take away my ability to properly theorize, you can never take away my spirit!....oh wait you took that already.....****

Yeah, it's a good theory except that, as stated above, Bungie has confirmed it to be a prequel to the Halo Trilogy. Nice work though, it's a relief to get away from the "omg teh legnedry endyig if rech!" threads.
