"Tri-St8 T Party"

Everyone is very concerned with naming the characters in the above picture...why? What I see are spartans each serving a different aspect. From left to right:

Heavy Weapons
Medic (possibly)
Soldier
Scout
Sniper

We already know Microsoft is scouting to find programmers to program servers that 300k+ users can simultaneously log into.

http://www.slipperybrick.com/2009/05/microsoft-working-on-300 000-player-mmo-and-next-xbox/

We should speculate that this next Bungie game could be the spawn of a new genre in console gaming.

The PC already had a game called Planetside that was a MMOFPS. It was an ok game with some pretty cheesy graphics. Each day you would log into a world where certain strongpoints were held by different factions. From there you would battle with foot soldiers, vehicles and body suits to control other various points. Now add this concept to the Halo world and you have what Halo:REACH could be. I have read the books and I know the canon. Eventually REACH will fall, they even said in the trailer that we know the ending. But what if Bungie makes a game with no ending? This would be an endless battle for supremacy between the humans and the covenant. Speculate on that.

Nice article, seems likely. But, doesn't Halo 3 already work across multi platforms with bungie.net?

I posted my theory about REACH due to 1 major reason. $$$

WoW has roughly 11 million players that pay around 15/month to play Blizzard's game. Now picture Microsoft jumping into that arena with Halo:REACH.

Sure it's console based but with Halo's popularity, it would be a great source of competition in the MMO world. Blizzard wouldn't really have to worry that much either simply because it would be an FPS and not a directly competitive RPG. Blizzard's servers would take less of a beating as some of the load of WoW players would jump over to this game for some variety.

Its possible it is class based. More or less. I don't see this becoming Team Fortress Halo. And I really doubt Microsoft is making servers that 300,000 people can play on. And Microsoft denied making another Xbox, so I doubt how accurate that article is. And a game is being developed for PS3 called MAG thats almost exactly what you described(but not halo). It has servers with 256 people in simultaneously. And if the game had no ending, not only would it not be canon(thus negating the purpose of campaign), but it would be a horrible fail plotwise. The Covenant don't do ground battles(if they can help it), they glass from space, where they have the clear advantage. I just can't see Bungie making such a drastic change. They already confirmed it would be a plain old fps. They are definitely gonna mix it up, but not this much.

Halo 3 connects console and web via B.net, but not mobile. The article quotes the job listing description as going beyond the current systems involved in Halo 3 to create an interactive out-of-game experience. It's a bit early to really tell what this is indicative of, as the job listing seems to encompass a largely broad number of duties and purported responsibilities required to make such a project actually work.

No one can know for sure atm.

Yea PS3 wants to do it with MAG but MAG does not have the user base of Halo. The article is really just working on a base of a job listing at microsoft. We know because of that listing that they are looking for programmers for that type of job. Whether it actually gets done or not who knows.

As for the covenant doing ground battles. They do if they are looking for Forerunner artifacts. The books are just snippets of the universe. Bungie could easily make a game based on another set of battles not yet published in an external Halo book. The bible has not been released to the public for good reason, because they have the ability to take the information and run with it wherever they please. From the interview with Harold Ryan, we know the Bungie developers were very interested in making this REACH battle playable. I see this as being a great cash cow for Microsoft and Bungie as long as they do it right.

Fake. It was just speculation First off, its 2 months old, so it was before Reach was announced. Second, Kotaku isn't that reliable of a resource. Third, their facts about the development of the game are false. Microsoft just owns the Halo IP. Bungie is an independent company now. Microsoft just publishes the games. So that last statement, along with some others, about Microsofts "Halo team", lead me to believe the other information is not accurate as well. And fourth of all, Bungie has no such job listing or description matching the one provided. Pics or didn't happen.

I'm sure if they were all holding the same gun you would say that's the only gun in the game then.

They already killed the possibliity of it being an MMO in the weekly update after E3.

It's actually a term used quite often on any forum. Try to broaden your horizons once in a while.

Anyone that disagrees with the OP is considered a troll.
Either that, or he expects you to choose the Troll Class in the new Halo game.

Those Spartans having different weapons =/= Classes.
It just wouldn't work with the current Halo system and would make Halo just another game.

Apparently, it was confirmed to not be an MMO, so that's another thing to bring down your idea.

I agree with the first post, NO!

You can find the update here.

Just go down to the FAQ.

It's actually a term used quite often on any forum. Try to broaden your horizons once in a while. A term used wrongly, yet quite often. Are you sure you know what a troll is? My original post was "I'm sure if they were all holding the same gun you would say that's the only gun in the game then." Well I apologize if you feel as if I was attempting to provoke a flame war. The meaning behind my original post is that I think your theory is wrong based on your evidence of the banner of the Reach forum. Of course the Spartans are going to be holding different guns, but I don't see how this means the game will be a class based MMO. And your link to Microsoft looking for programmers for an MMO is irrelevant. What makes you think it's a Halo MMO?

Nothing fake about it. Kotaku is a hell of a lot more reliable than most gaming websites around the net, and the only portion of that article that I bothered to cite was the direct quotation of a Microsoft job listing, not a Bungie job listing. You need to read more closely.

Are you sure that you are even responding to the right person/article here? Nothing in what I linked ever mentions a Halo game. It is an out-of-game interactive project meant to span multiple platforms for a furtherance of the Halo experience.

Lastly, why would the statement that Microsoft has a "Halo team" make you believe any of their other information is wrong? Microsoft does have a "Halo team", and it's spearheaded by Frank O'Connor. If you're assuming that they were referring to Bungie, you are mistaken.

Unless you're saying Microsoft is posting fake job ads, there is absolutely nothing wrong with anything in the article or anything I've posted regarding it.

Q. My cousin told me that Halo: Reach is a squad-based tactical MMO featuring all kinds of ridiculous stuff that I shouldn't believe. Is he a liar?

A. Halo: Reach will be a First Person Shooter. You will shoot stuff from a first person perspective. It will be awesome.

If you are referring to this statement then you are correct it will not be a squad based MMO. I however am stating that I see Halo REACH possibly being a class based MMOFPS. Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. It does not say in the update that it won't be a MMO, it says that it will be a first person shooter.

  • 07.01.2009 10:18 AM PDT

Fine. Believe what you want, but I say it's just Halo 4, another FPS.

I'm pretty sure that the point of including the MMO descriptor in the fictionalized question was to downplay everything, both the "tactical-based shooter" as well as the "MMO" descriptors.

FPS games and MMOFPS games are two very different genres, just the same as RPGs and MMORPGs are vastly different genres. Xbox.com has confirmed it to be simply an FPS, not an MMOFPS, so while I won't say it's impossible, I firmly believe we won't be seeing Reach as anything other than what we've come to expect as far as the natural scale of multiplayer goes.

I'm just replying to the response that it was said that it would not be an MMO. There is no wording in any items that says it will not be an MMO. Whether the game turns out to be one or not, I was just defending my theory. It was not said anywhere "directly" that it will not be an MMO. Whether the descriptors in the response refer directly to the MMO or the squad based is purely in the perception of the question.
