Okay, so, Halo Reach is little more than a year away. But, being bored I have decided to try and decifer a few things of the game from the Halo books, the trailer, and the forum heading you see at the top of the page.
I'll start with the trailer.
In the Machinima.com version of the trailer (here) at 00:11 seconds, the tag line, "From the Beginning, You know the End." I believe this signifies the fact that the player knows Reach will fall, as the fall of Reach is referenced in all three Halo video games, and all three novels liscenced by Bungie.
At 00:24 seconds, "Gamma Station" radios in unconfirmed slipspace ruptures inside the solar system, nigh impossible for UNSC ships but a signature of Covenant battle ships.
I am going to point out now that I believe the trailer is an accelerated version of the first few hours of the battle for Reach.
Anyway, continuing from 00:26, a commanding voice says that there is no way this could be happening. A separate voice maintains that Gammas readings are sound as what seems to be a damaged orbital MAC gun drifts beneath our view.
Then we hear from the first Spartan. At 00:41, "Sierra 320" or "330" is heard from, with an exotic accent in HER voice. She declares she is ready for combat insertion.
At 00: 44, an explosion characteristic of a plasma explosion rocks the planet, followed seconds later by many more. This throws the UNSC ground forces into disarray.
We hear a voice, "We're coming in hot! Hold on!" This is reminiscent of the scene in Halo: Fall of Reach when the SPARTAN ground team has to jump from their burning Pelican.
(by the way, i just got chills listening to the chatter from the groundside teams. I am so excited for this game.)
At 00:55 another line reminiscent from H:FoR is heard, "We're being overrun. We'll hold this position for as long as we can." This was heard from one of the groundside power bunkers.
At 1:05, the voice that confirmed Gamma's readings attempts to contact "Noble 1". I believe Noble 1 has been eliminated or disabled because seconds later you hear, "This is Sierra 259. You have SPARTANs on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere." I believe S-259 is reassuring the man about their fighting status. However, "Noble 1" could be refering to the SPARTAN group themselves. It is not clear as of yet.
Now, the books. I have seen people trying to work the MC into this game, directly coming from the end of H3. I don't think this will happen. If the Chief does make an appearance, it will be him before losing his teammates, before discovering Halo, before encountering the Flood... This will be a Chief we won't know, one we haven't met. Oh, he'll still be a beast, but I don't think he will be anything like we remember him.
Now, the official picture you see at the top of the forum with the group of soldiers. You can see major differences in the soldiers. The soldier on the far left is obviously a SPARTAN, massive and armored, also carrying a weapon we have yet to encounter. Moving over, a lithe and thin soldier with what looks to be a woman's form stands. Moving right, the Spartan that, if Chief was in this game, would represent the MC. Not massive, not small, not bulky but not thin, he is the average one there. But you had something they didn't, something no one saw but me... Continuing right, what appears to be a female Spartan stands slightly behind "Chief". And finally, on the far right kneels the most curious one of all. His figure implies he is a male, but he does not have the bulk or the hight to be a SPARTAN. His face mask could in fact be an ODST's. But, once again, it's too early to know.
Well that's what I think. Does anyone have anything they'd like to add or argue with?
