As everyone knows the AR is one of the most popular gun for the majority of Halo 3 players, But its accuracy is well to be honest pretty shocking and it takes a whole clip just to kill another player, Not to mention its sound it even sound's bad compared to its brother the SMG. But personally i think it needs to go or be improved.
All i can say is:
DO NOT PUT IT IN HALO REACH WITHOUT MAJOR MODIFICATIONS

Yes, but not the non-versatile "noob" version in Halo 1 and 3. Give it depth this time.

45 rounds/magazine
15 rounds/sec
20 bodyshots/10 headshots to kill
as accurate as H2 BR (single shot), as accurate as H3 BR (pulsed), as accurate as H1 AR (full auto)
2x scope

Hmmm, I'm thinking more like 50 rounds per magazine, with more like 40 body shots and 15 headshots, and those adjusters for number of rounds per shot is really not needed, and it shouldn't even be that accurate.

Honestly what's a game without a fully automatic assault rifle

  • 07.01.2009 3:01 PM PDT

Yes. But how about this time, we actually make it an assault rifle?

well it definetly wouldn't look like that right, cause it is 500 years in the future, as said by your other posts

its 500 years in the future, 30 body shots to kill, so why do you unload a whole clip, cause you arent hitting him, oh come on, the M16 is more accurate than that

1 second kills on headshots and 30 of 45 rounds for a kill?

If bungie keeps the assault rifle, they should scrap the smg. If they have the smg, they should scrap the assault rifle. Basically, the smg and the assault rifle had largely the same function in Halo 3 other than the fact that no one pick up the smg because you already had the assault rifle. the AR replaced the SMG of Halo 2 which replaced the AR of Halo 1. One or the other.

Your blood will clean the blood for now.

AR shouldn't have a scope.. its a machine gun. automatic. Its unfair when every gun starts to get a scope. The gun would look stupid with a scope too btw.

Definitely. It's the most iconic weapon in the series, and shouldn't be removed. Especially with it's widespread use in the background of the Halo series. But I reckon it should be changed, along with another couple of human weapons. I was thinking change the BR, AR and SMG to suit each other. Something like this...

Battle Rifle
Magazine size - 30 rounds (Debatable)
Fire mode - semi automatic
Rate of fire - slightly faster than Halo 1 pistol
Range - mid to semi-long range
Headshots - yes

Assault Rifle
Magazine size - 33 rounds
Fire mode - three round burst
Rate of fire - slightly faster than Halo 2 BR
Range - mid range (Less effective at close range than current version and inneffective at long range)
Headshots - no (Or perhaps only capable of headshots against unshielded opponents)

SMG
Magazine size - 60 rounds
Fire mode - fully automatic
Rate of fire - same as Halo 1 AR
Range - close range
Headshots - no

So you see, the Assault Rifle would ideally be suited for mid range combat, with the burst fire mode making it innacurate at longer ranges and fairly limited at close range compared to purpose built close range weapons (Though it shouldn't be impossible to kill with at close range, just more difficult than the current version). The Battle Rifle would be more dominant at mid range with its scope, but would ideally be even more limited at close range than the Assault Rifle. The SMG would complete the triangle, being dominant at close range but very limited at anything longer than semi-mid range. The power of all weapons would be decided by Bungie. So basically, BR = dominant mid range weapon, SMG = dominant close range weapon, and Assault Rifle = dominant at neither, suitable for both.

Anyone agree?

no, why would we need to change the assult rifle into another battle rifle? we dont need 2 and i think the AR is fine the way it is

  • 07.02.2009 5:12 AM PDT

Dedicated driver.

The AR is a great weapon because it is very rewarding in mid to close range, even if your aim isn't quite on top. It's been one of my favourite weapons since Halo Combat Evolved. Of course it should stay!

It should stay, but they need to bring back the old sound effects for the AR. Seriously, in Halo 3 the AR firing sounds like popcorn. Weak popcorn. The Halo:CE AR sounded like 60 tigers firing out of the barrel.

I never said "turn it into another Battle Rifle". If you'd read the full thing, you'd probably understand that (Though I don't expect you to agree with it. That's up to you).

Yes, but only if its changed (especially the sound).

  • 07.03.2009 4:46 AM PDT

Remember,
It is easy to be male
it is another thing to be a man.

The assault rifle should be kept. Not because it was present at Reach but because the AR is the iconic human weapon of Halo. (They should use the Halo 1 sound though)

  • 07.03.2009 4:53 AM PDT

Kept but changed. Make it a little more versatile. And at least make it SOUND like a rifle instead of a rattle...

  • 07.03.2009 5:05 AM PDT

"If practice makes perfect" and 'nobody's perfect,' then what's the point of practice?"

I still have no idea what the core game play of Reach is supposed to have.
But, if it was a more tactical shooter then I would say that all or some of the AR variants should be added. (timeline rubs out MA5C)

MA5B - Halo 1 assault rifle. Was standard after The Battle of Reach.
MA3 - Older version of the AR. Most likely used during The Battle of Reach.
MA5K - Introduced to Spec-Ops in 2531. Maybe used during special operations or reconnaissance.

I didn't read the books, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Assault Rifle? When has Halo had an Assault Rifle? Halo CE had an SMG on steroids and Halo 3 had two SMGs.

But in all seriousness yes I would like to see a real AR in Halo: Reach.

  • 07.03.2009 6:13 AM PDT

It's a tough question. The real question is should bungie bring back the emphasis on dual weilding? If they make the SMG a little more accurate, you wouldn't need the AR. Don't get me wrong, i love it. The problem is with an AR and a BR the rest of the weapons on the map become useless. I mean sure you'll pick up a sword or sniper, but most of the Dual Weilding weapons are left hanging. The only dual weapon that anyone ever really picks up anymore is the Mauler, and they usually just carry one. If it would mean SMG starts, yes, i would say get rid of the AR. If the SMG would get a slight buff, i'd say hell yeah.

I think it is fine as it is.

It comes in handy when you run out of ammo and it really helps newcomers.

KEEP IT!

I have no signature... exept for this one...

If you look at the Halo: Reach banner you can see it'll be in the game.
