My thoughts on using the Cryengine 3 for Reach:

A graphics engine better than the one used for Crysis? I'm sorry, but I don't want to buy four more 360s just to get enough processing power to play Reach. Make something that won't require all of the power generated from Niagara Falls to play, please Bungie?

You don't think the engine could be modified for the 360 architecture? Despite what many fanboys may have you believe both systems are actually quite similar in their capabilities, the devs just have to approach each console differently.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Pretty sure the CryEngine has been modified to work on the 360 and PS3. Of course it would work, but I don't see Bungie using it.

I thought it had as well, i'm a little confused by the other guys statement. I agree with you though, I doubt bungie will use it, but who knows.

Sounds like a bunch of Justin Bieber wannabes in here. I bet you all wear skinny jeans too.

I think they already made a brand new engine, seeing as the game's been in development for 2 years now.

Well of course whatever engine they use has been used since the beginning (might rule out the use of CryEngine). Just people speculating on what engine has been used. I would imagine they made their own though.

I guess that some people here have never heard of exaggeration before. In my previous post, I was making a joke about the ridiculously high computing power needed to run Cryengine - Crysis is notorious for needing a powerful computer to play - especially at maximum settings. I still think Bungie should make their own engine though. Why break from a tradition that has worked well in the past?

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

I hope so, I already get lost in Halo 3's graphics at some points.

If they used something like CryEngine 3, then I will be in love for ever more with another Halo game.

It has. Crysis is being adapted for both platforms. By the way, I've seen you specifically mention a few times now statements like "since they chose to stay with an FPS". Does that disappoint you or something? If so, what genre were you hoping for it to transfer into?

  • 07.01.2009 7:52 PM PDT

Yes, really

i wish they would. even on CE1 the graphics, physics and effects were ridiculously amazing looking. and they could, since crysis 2 is coming to the Xbox 360, PS3(aww thats too bad. shoulda went pure MS) and best of all PC.

  • 07.01.2009 7:56 PM PDT

I do wish they would use this, or spend the time to make a quality one of their own. (Like Epic did with the Unreal engine) But they most likely won't.

they should use the euphoria engine

  • 07.01.2009 9:44 PM PDT

Would you dance for it?

I'm pretty sure Bungie builds a new engine for each new game (except ODST of course).

At the rate they have progressed I expect big things from Reach.

You must be daft because
A: CryEngine 3 was not used in crysis
B: CryEngine 3 was and is being developed for consoles and PC'S alike

Isn't that for physics?

Dedicated driver.

I'm pretty sure they'll stick with Havok Physics. They've been using it since Halo Combat Evolved after all.

and how!

No. They will use an engine that they design. Halo games would not feel like Halo games if they used an engine made by a company other than Bungie. [With the exception of Halo Wars, but it is a different genre so the feeling is kept fairly well]

ummm im sure they will use a modified havok engine like they did for every halo game so far.

am i the only one that thinks halo 3's graphics are amazing?... i just dislike the look of games like gears and COD 4... even crysis has a displeasing look to it. i just don't know what it is...

maybe it's the uncanny valley.... dun dunn dunnn

The only engine Reach should use is one designed for Halo.

  • 07.02.2009 6:10 AM PDT

They don't need to build a whole new engine every time they make a new game. They, almost certainly, will build on what they had for Halo 3.

I can't see them using another engine.

  • 07.02.2009 6:40 AM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

I'd prefer this to something like the unreal engine.

The engine is simply beautiful. It would be good if Bungie used it, but I doubt that they will.

Halo Wars did use a Halo engine designed for RTS use.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I think Halo's engine is fine as it is. Personally I think Bungie would be shooting themselves in the foot by using someone else's engine.
