Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I can lead targets when they're moving in a straight line, but how do you lead targets who strafe back and forth really fast. I can't hit them!

Well, your subject of this thread doesn't make sense unfortunately. Just sayin'. ; )

Since I'm a loving PC gamer, and have been playing PC games since late '01, I'm considerably good at leading when an Elite/Grunt simply moves in a straight line to the left or right.

But, I would have to agree with you on this. When enemies strafe in Multiplayer or Campaign side to side, it's pretty hard to get all your bullets on them...

Something smells fishy...

It's definitely difficult. You must fire upon your opponent's upper body and head while moving your aim ahead of them while they are strafing side to side.

If you follow their movements you can adjust your aim more easily.

most people fall into some sort of consistent back and forth motion. lobbing a grenade to persuade them to strafe in a straight line is a pretty big help as well. Also people tend to switch direction/back away when reloading, among a number of other tendencies to notice. I find I usually fire one shot assuming they continue their direction and fire the next assuming they stop/switch direction, and hope that the inaccuracy and magnetism work in my favor.

Mostly it's just timing it correctly. If it's a really fast back and forth short strafe, shoot in the middle of it. If it's a bit slower, time when you think they are about to stop and go the other direction, you can then basically shoot right on them or nearly and get the hit. Other than that, I can't really explain the more complex scenarios, they are just instinct for me after however many years I've been playing this now. Just remember, if they're strafing, you don't need to aim as far ahead as if they'd been running straight since they'll be stopping and going the other way.

All I ask is that you don't try to capture me.

Remember, lead is different for every server. You have to play for a while before you get the feel of the lead for the game you're in. In the beginning, fire pistol shots tentatively, aim for the center of mass, and try to predict player's strafing patterns to get your shots in.

Still can't do it. Guess I'm too slow. Time to retire from Halo PC.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

When ppls strafe back and forth, don't worry so much about leading them as much as continually moving your reticle back and forth over their body to make your reticle light up red. Everytime your target moves outside of the little circle of your reticle, you have to start the process over again before bullets will hit. Play against someone with a 300+ ping that is warping everywhere and you will figure out how the netcode really works. Aim isn't as important as convincing the server that you have aimed onto the target. Kinda hard to explain. The higher your ping, the longer you have to wait (convince the server you are aimed onto the target) before bullets will hit. This is why you can turn a corner, come up on someone standing completely still and still miss a shot with a sniper despite shooting essentially through them. The server isn't going to register a hit unless it first registers that you are aimed onto the guy. When you have a 33 ping, this waiting period is almost nil, giving you a huge advantage over higher pingers with equal skill.

Then work on the other important things like having a steady hand, and shooting much slower than most people do. I can usually watch someone go through an entire clip, hit almost nothing, and then slowly kill someone in 5 bullets or less in the time it takes them to reload. Typically then they quit. The faster you shoot the less you tend to hit against players with good defensive movements. The pistol itself is much more accurate as well the slower you fire. In some cases at close range, it doesn't matter at all, but most of the time it does and you need to shoot slower.

This is an old account iDarkWint3r is my new Bungie.net user.

Here's a tip how to beat people from strafing.

Requirement:
-Grenades

Have at least 2 grenades to carry. And when you approach an enemy who strafes swiftly.Watch his movements,So you can tell which way he is actually going. So throw a grenade when the opposing enemy strafes and it hits throw another grenade where he will walk toward and he dies.

Or Tactic 2,Throw a grenade to causing the opponent unable to see where your spartan character model is.Then take a pistol (recommended) or Sniper (Even better) to shoot him in the grenade dust w/e.scope 1x and shoot till he dies. That's all! :)

Not the best idea, as any decent player will move away from the grenade. However, that opens up another tactic - if a player is strafing unpredictably, throw a grenade. They'll move away from the nade in a straight line, usually sideways, and thus it's much easier to line up a 3sk right then.

Man, this is an old topic.

if he strafes back and forth right in front of you... shoot down the middle I say :)
