Subject: halo ODST a test for Halo reach?

maybe the halo odst is a test for the halo reach, to make a good game. In halo reach you will with a squad of spartans most probably, so why not testing first with a squad of odst?
The new halo reach is going to have a new graphic engine, so maybe they want to see how whe react to the oppen spaces and the darker enviroment. also, test the new weapons, like the silent smg, the vision mode, and people likes and dislikes of this completly different game. I think bungie wanted to test us to see what conserve and what delate of halo 3 experience.
Also they are kind of practicing how to make good looking marines (ODST in ODST looks amazing) because halo 3 marines where not very detailed. They are also introducing new ways of playing like firefight and new styles like the silent guy. My point is that the Halo reach caracteristics may be decided by what we like and dislike of ODST, the game that was build to fix the errors of halo 3. What do you think, maybe i'm paranoic

Certainly i don't think that bungie is gonna waste 30 million to make a game to only test another game that why it exists the beta or the demos don;t you think

  • 07.01.2009 3:56 PM PDT

Yeah, a while back I wondered if FireFight was just a "beta" for something in Reach... I guess you could apply that to all of ODST ('s first disk).

I think that they were testing out out reactions to this kind of thing while delivering a new game with a sweet story line and characters.

I think it's just to gauge our reactions and then possibly tailor the new game (slightly) depending on thee reaction to the small (and sometimes big) changes.

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

Maybe, but no. This can't be a "test", afterall, there is no multi-player, head to head multi-player.

A pistol against enemies yeah, it will do well, but in match making it is just, no. Health packs prove to be unbalanced and they are just, let's just say health packs are a no.

k i will try to explain myself with my bad english:

and now the revenge of nicolas who's english has been insulted:
in frenh ajajaja

and i can do it in spanish too O_o yeah the revenge of darknicolas...

"Wow! It's like the money-shot is on MY face!"

I kinda doubt making a whole game just for a test would be feasible, plus what would happen if the reaction went bad? Would they just scrap this game?

  • 07.01.2009 4:19 PM PDT

Oel ngati kameie, oe omum nga, oe ’efu nga.

it is a bad idea in a sense, but they wouldn't necessarily scrap halo reach, just not make it the same as odst, and they would make the game better based on peoples reaction from odst, its a gimmick, because if people dont like odst, and reach is like odst, not a lot of people would buy reach, thus reducing sells by a massive amount

  • 07.01.2009 4:22 PM PDT

I'm not saying that ODST is exclusively made like a test, I just said that one of it's main propuse is to be a test, but also they are making a different game to make money, to attract different kind of players and to give a fun experience

  • 07.01.2009 4:27 PM PDT

had the same idea
I even thought when they brought the 7 wood in as a diffrent gravity hammer for sandbox
i thought that, that was even a test for adding new weapons for halo

Health packs in Match making multi-player doesn't work. Bungie seeing this, did not add it into Halo 2 or 3. In H3:ODST however, there is no match making, only campaign, in which, health packs are fine.

The Halo: CE pistol was, how do you say... over powered. It had a scope, it could 3 shot, yes, 3 SHOT. Not realistic at all, and I am guessing they saw this, and did not add it into Halo 2 or 3. In H3:ODST however, a pistol is more realistic since it is against enemy AI. Which, are signifigantly weaker compared to anyone in match making.

They didn't have a BR, because it would probably take away from the other weapons in the game. I don't believe Bungie is just going to take away the most beloved weapon in Halo because they aren't using it in Halo3: ODST.

I doubt they will add health, substitute the BR for a pistol, or anything of that nature in Halo: Reach.

I agree with you completely, ODST is like a beta for reach. Think about it, production on Reach started before ODST. It is an entirely new way to play. The free roaming environment which can maybe be hinting to a FPS MMO. Also if anyone played Tabula Rasa they could maybe compare firefight with the defense of forts, which would fit in the story of reach. I'm just putting a theory out there...

PS sorry for poor grammer spelling and punctuation.

Who knows, maybe their just testing some new stuff on ODST to see if we like it, we all know the feedback from ODST will affect Reach.

Actually, the only "un-realistic" part about the Halo CE pistol was the fact that it was a pistol. It wasn't overpowered, that thing fired 12.7mm HE rounds. Having seen, up close, exactly what 12.7mm rounds do to substances such as concrete and brick, or objects such as cars, I will tell you that the damage is pretty much spot on.

Bungie already has a playable version of reach, I mean if your gonna make a "test" game (sounds dumber when you think about it) Why release it when your so far in development? Like, The game ships September and the Beta for Reach is released what early 2010 (probably)? Not a lot of time to change key parts of the game like if everyone hates the free roaming environment(not saying they will just... an example) so probably not true although they probably would include a lot of the features people like from ODST, just cuz.

OH AND the reason the pistol was overpowered was because it had a scope and you could snipe with that -blam!- seriously like cross map pwnage 3 shots to face... pretty accurate.

I think the major thing they are going for is combining the open world of the ODST campaign with the more objective oriented Halo 3 campaign into one.

Imagine that you are in a valley. At the top of the ridge is an anti air turret. Your mission is to destroy it.

Go.

You can take the straight path there as you want to take it out before renforcements come after 15 minutes, but along the way you might discover marines holed up against the covenant that you could rescue for allies, supply depots that you can raid for weapons which also prevent the enemy from being better equipped later, things like that.

Its no longer a "I'm in a narrow canyon between myself and a cliff, there is only one way to get from point A to point B."

Its much more open, play throughs might not be the same twice, and should be a lot more fun and explorative.
