Well, I could see a human being destroyed by a grenade, but brutes are 9 foot tall monsters. They'll be killed, but not smothered into pieces. But in Halo, the spiker and the plasma grenade can blow a brute up with ease. They are stuck to you and also being that they're not "our kind" of grenades; super- heated plasma or a whole bunch of titanium spines can probably destroy you. Depending on the grenade, the character should experience different effects. Take the flame grenade for example. Since it burns the enemy, why not make the enemy actually look like he's getting scorched? You know what I mean. Since it can't burn totally through Titanium Spartan armor, why not make it look like the armor got scorched and still have the Spartan die from it? You know. Make the paint partially burnt off. And for elites, a majority of their armor should be totally burnt. But still, to make it fair, both should die from one flame grenade, unless you increased their stamina in the "Game Options", in the pre- game lobby.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

There is Gore, it's called the Flood, though it was MUCH Gorier in Halo CE.

I want Halo to be a lot darker; here's hoping this is gonna be. I want to see plasma burn holes through marines, civillians get killed, bloody be realistic.

This is a war with an alien species; it should look like one.

Fight for Freedom

Gears of war is awesome only because of the violence and gore, im not saying lets dismember Spartans....but when i shoot you in the head with a snipe, i want to see it roll. I want a much better death effect instead of a ragdoll effect with 2 drops of blood. Please Bungie? make head shots more brutal, or at LEAST see the bullet hole in the visor...??

Even CoD5 had limbs flying.

This is Halo Reach
This is Halo Reach
This is Halo Reach
It's possible.

Exactly, and being that there's more upgraded and explosive weaponry than a game that takes place in the 20th century, I'd expect there to be a bit more gore than CoD: WaW. Massive, 12 foot tall juggernauts with fuel rods, 8 and a half foot tall aliens with plasma swords, and 9 foot tall beasts with grenade launching bayonets; there should be quite bit more gore than CoD: WaW. It's not the 20th century anymore. There should be more gore.

Yea. :P Kill Cam is another thing they could add into there. So you could see who killed you, and get them back. Not a grudge- like revenge, but more of a friendly kind of revenge.

Even if they don't have a kill cam, do what TF2 did and at least show where the camper that picks you off every time is so that you have a heads up and the game is more competitive.

Lots of games are coming out now that have an emphasis on the realistic gore while Halo remains to just have a small spray of blood unlike massive severing like gears of war or Left 4 dead. While gears still makes me a little sick to my stomach when I get curb stomped would it be so bad if an elites leg was blown off when getting stuck or if I saw a limb come out of a giant explosion?

I prefer Halo's lack of gruesome violence. I play Fallout 3 all the time and severely regret taking the Bloody Mess perk.

and how!

There could very easily be more blood or a little bit more gore without it being as extreme as Gears of War.

By the way, both Gears of War and Halo are "science fiction".

Why do people assume Gears of War, L4D, etc. when people bring up blood and gore?

Did Gears of War invent blood or something?

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

What would be good would be a little more gore, but not excessive gore. Like you can see the bullet and plasma wounds on the people who are shot, but none of that limbs and guts flying business.

Nope, it's just that people aren't open to new ideas.

Yeah that would be good (It's Halo, not Gears of Halo).

It'd be cool to see the Armour start denting see bullet holes and scorch marks as a result of a flame thrower but seeing the entire head getting ripped off? no that would ruin halo maybe if they kinda upped the death sequence thing like if you got shot with the sniper you would see a bullet hole crack the visor and come out the other side of the helmet, if you get attacked by an energy sword and got slashed you would see the slash burn across the chest piece but nothing too extreme like getting ripped apart let gears of war have that

BOOM Headshot!

no killcam please, please...........................

I think the small spray of blood is realistic because the spartans are wearing full body armor and blood would only come out of the little hole that pierced the armor and killed them

  • 07.06.2009 9:31 AM PDT

Blood and Gore= not fun, even gross sometimes.

What about elites, marines, brute and etc? There should be different effects for different characters dying. Sniping a Spartan in the helmet should really show a bit of gore, though. And depending on where you stick a Spartan, the inside of the suit should explode and at least show a limb or two fly off. Nothing extreme, like GoW, but if you were to stick it on the Titanium plating of the armor, then I'd expect less, but sticking it on the less protected parts, like around the torso or neck, some body parts should fly.

Here's a diagram of what some detatchable Spartan parts could be. Not all in one explosion kill, but maybe different parts, in different kills, from different explosions.

Detatchable Parts

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Personally, I would like to see more grit in Halo (but that doesn't mean take away the color palet!)... but for gore, I don't think Halo needs any more gore... Bungie doesn't really seem to be about that anyway.

I think it's possible to get away with making Halo more gritty and violent without adding gore. Implying the gore often works better than having the gore be in-your-face. For example, it works better to set the mood to hear the screams of people dying rather than showing their deaths. Don't desensitize the audience to the violence you put in, and the violence will add that much more of the necessary feel to the game. (If you want a specific example, I'd say what Bungie did with Foehammer's death in Halo 1)

Man, all this talk about violence makes me feel like I'm a violent person... sorry if this sounded "dark."

This is not Gears of War.
This is not Left 4 Dead.
This is not Fallout 3.

This is SPARTA!

Sorry I had to say it, but my opinion is that the violence is fine. We don't need any more politicians on our backs.

Well, the thing is though, with more "sound violence", uit could interfere with the Spartan Super Soldiers being "Spartans". We can't call them "Spartans" when they start screaming at everything a marine would. We can't call Elites "Elite" with them screaming like grunts. We can't call Brutes "Butal" with them screaching like monkeys. They're simians, but not monkey simians. They're ape- like simians.

No, but they sure as hell set the bar.
