Why do people think that adding gore/dismemberment would "ruin" Halo?

Because a good number of players are little kids and adding gore would lower their chances of getting the game due to the age restriction increase.

I wouldn't mind more gore. The most likely reason they haven't had it in the past is because when H1 came out there was pretty much no such thing and adding blood was as gory as they could get, and they just followed with the blood splatter in h2 and h3. It wouldn't ruin Halo at all, unless the game became all about dismemberment and a gory feel, which isn't Halo. I'd like to see something in-between where it's at now and L4D/GoW. Gore wouldn't ruin Halo.

My lil' rant to the kids above:
This game is rated M, so kids shouldn't be playing it anyway. And to the kids defending themselves above me: stop. It's well known that when you hear a lil kids voice playin on xbl the first thing you do is mute him, and then when he's nading his teammates you leave the game. Every kid I play with either tries to cuss someone out or pick a fight. Whoever said spankin your kids is child abuse needs to change their mind cuz kids these days have no respect, and it worked for the last hundreds of generations, so why all of the sudden is it now messing with their heads? Stop blaming kids acting up on video games and notice that it's from them going to the corner rather than gettin set straight.
<End Rant>

The age restriction wouldn't increase. The game is already rated M.

With that age restriction, I don't see why Bungie can't increase the gore a little, such as visible bullet and plasma wounds.

Here's my advice to you son, its a life lesson you shan't forget.

Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't good for anything in particular, but it still makes you smile when you push them down the stairs

Exactly. Every encounter I had with a little kid, no matter if it was CoD, GoW or Halo, they always get annoying. Some people on this thread are defending the little pricks. They always come in out of nowhere and take my kill, or curse me out. It gets very annoying. Like what I said before about there being some restriction on XBL. Little kids under a certain age can't go on XBL, as it restricts them from doing so. I guess kids 12- 13 and up are good , but anyone lower than that just really gets on my nerves when they whine and scream. You just want to punch the whining piece of -blam!- in the face.

I am a "True" gamer advocate.
Halo 2
People are crazy, and times are strange...

I hate it when gamers just want gore... As for "realistic gore", NO video game has accomplished such a feat, it's almost always over the to and scripted dismemberment. Halo has it's merits and no gore is one of em, deal with it.

Actually, probably most of the people on this thread saw the video. It was titled "ETU Brute". It was available on YouTube and on the XBL Marketplace as free downloadable content. But yeah, that would've been pretty cool if they actually put such actions in Halo. Not so much blood like in GoW or L4D, but something more like CoD: WaW, where they show heads and limbs getting blown off, but there isn't so much blood and guts flying every which way.

Do or do not... there is no try - Yoda

There is nothing more satisfying than doing a headshot in GoW and see your opponents head blown of.. But even though.. I think Halo is fine the way it is.

This question should've really been a poll instead of just some random question. If so, maybe the Bungie designers could look at the votes, and then see if more people want gore in Halo or not. It'll be easier for Bungie creators to decide. I know it's kind of late to put gore in for Halo 3: ODST, but there should be some for Halo: Reach. The books include more of a grotesque view of Halo. come on. Can't we just experiment for once? See how Halo is like with a bit of gore? Not the Gears of War or Dead Space kind of gore, but something more one the lines of Call of Duty: World at War.

I mean, CoD beat Halo to gore. What do you think about that? The CoD series first started out as a Rated "T" series, and then slowely worked its way up to a gorier series than the Halo trilogy. What do you think of that? Halo's still the same kind of blood splatter, over and over again............ The sad part is, is that the Halo trilogy helped birth many other FPS and other shooting games and now it's just the same kind of gore we saw in the first one. It may have not been the first FPS game, but it sure made a breakthrough for others at its time.

i think there should be a little bit more blood in sp and mp; in sp you should be able to occasionlly remove limbs from grunts and you should see bullet holes with blood leaking out of them on elites (but not a ton of blood mind you, just a little for that added touch). In mp, there should be bleeding bullet holes once again, but plasma bolts should leave burn marks (at least temporarily) on the armor, and the sword should put a big glowing slash mark, and should occasionaly take off a limb

  • 07.06.2009 6:56 PM PDT

I like the lack of gore. It is just unnecessary.

  • 07.06.2009 6:59 PM PDT

All the gore would ruin Halo. It's good as it is. I mean adding a little I can understand but it shouldn't be like GoW.

Like MLG has questioned, "How would it RUIN Halo"?

I mean, sure, exploding bodies isn't something we want, but, I mean, what is wrong with more blood?

  • 07.06.2009 7:23 PM PDT

Fight for Freedom

or seeing a bullet hole in the visor of the head you just popped.

  • 07.06.2009 8:24 PM PDT

Fight for Freedom

and as far as "gore" goes, why cant the armor get banged up and damaged after a grenade stick? it doesn't have to be blood and dismemberment but the death effect can be alot more detailed.

  • 07.06.2009 8:27 PM PDT

Some things, like bullet holes in armor and Energy Swords piercing armor instead of just 'bumping' would be nice, but I like to think of Halo 3 as 'higher class' than Gears of War, fastpaced and clean, so, in short, Hell the -blam!- no!

  • 07.06.2009 8:48 PM PDT

personally i think that if more gore was added to halo it would be nice but it wouldn't turn the game into gears of war the game would have its own kind of gore just like it does now. everyone saying that the spartans have armor so they cant be dismembered, every armor has its weak points and what i see in the spartan armor is the joints because it cant be solid metal otherwise it would restrict movement and they wouldn't be able to perform the skull bashing punches and crazy ten foot jumps spartans. also around the neck would have to be made of Kevlar or something and that isn't indestructible

Wow, all that indiscriminate stereotyping (pardon the redundancy), has left a rather foul stench in the air. Not all children are babyish and whining, in fact, some of us are probably more mature than you. When I play the game, I usually take advantage of the handy 'mute all' feature, listening to you 'older people' cursing all the time really gets old fast. Now occasionally, I do run across the occasional peer who uses LIVE as an output for his urge to curse and speak everything tabood he knows, but what is your solution? Prevent all children from playing LIVE of course.
