If you can't be a good example, be a good bad example.

Has anybody else noticed that people seem to assume that the slipspace rupture caused by the covenant ship is the reason that the city is damaged the orbital elevator is severed and in flames.

This massive damage that we see through the Rookie's eyes upon his awakening could not possibly have been caused by the slipspace rupture because when the player flashes back to the perspective of another member of the ODST squad the orbital elevator is intact, as is the ONI building.

This means that there must be some event that causes this.

Speculation... Thoughts?

I never killed a man that didn't need killing.

I saw somewhere that the Slipspace rupture weakened it a great deal, but the actual collapse was caused by something else. Maybe even something in ODST or during the Covenants follow on Invasion and escavation of the Ark.

I hope its in-game ODST because that would be impressive. And bold by Bungie because it would definitely invoke 9/11 in a way.

Wow, I never thought of this. In the demo it is said that the flashback to the bridge is 2 hours after the drop, yet the city was not in flames. All though the city would be somewhat destroyed because the slipspace rupture brought along parts of buildings, as seen in H2.

Yeah, it took me a while to realise. Come to think of it though, it's pretty obvious.

The poster above you has a good point too.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Well it could be that the ONI Alpha site we see was far enough away from the slipspace rupture that it wasn't destroyed. I do believe at least that building was destroyed later on by the Covenant. Obviously the closer to the rupture, the greater the damage.

Rawr Im a dino!

Well maybe the covenant destory it so they can stop people from escaping the city?

I'm pretty sure that if the covenant wanted to ensure that people didn't escape the city, the space elevator wouldn't have been their priority. Also, the orbital elevator was used primarily to transport materials and goods into space, not people.
