Not sure if other games have this either.. I dont want Halo to be more like any other game, I just think it would be an interesting way to change up gameplay.

Dust it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They should have like a Community Achievement section put in with the Bungie Favorites.
You would download the achievement, accomplish it and download some more.

  • 07.08.2009 9:17 PM PDT

That would be cool too.. but Im talking about a checklist trigger system to set up gametypes geared around getting achievements rather than just straight up killing one another.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

or Medal based gameplay?

  • 07.11.2009 4:16 PM PDT

gt: MLGxKINGxELITE linky linky

that wouldnt be bad

  • 07.11.2009 4:21 PM PDT

Medal based gameplay would work.. but the options would be limited to the medals in the game. With achievements you can have things like "kill someone with brute grenade from 100+ yards, Splatter 3 enemies with the banshee, incinerate 3 enemies.." Things like that.. otherwise theyd have to make medals for all of these which wouldnt be necessary

A trigger system would be great! Bungie would have to come up with a friendly UI though.
After all Reach is coming out on a console, not a PC.

It could simply be a checklist you can scroll up and down through and click "A" to select/deselect. It wouldnt be difficult at all.

one word IMPRACTICAL memorize it. bungie and microsoft would say no. and even if bungie sayed yes they would have to talk to microsoft about using THEIR IDEA. (I am so pissed off at the idea of achivements and TROPHIES every body's copying the xbox's and microsofts ideas)
and to even call it an achievement or to put "achievement unlocked" bungie would have to pay microsoft a butt load of money for the trademark fee. so there

A Hell Jumper - Heroic, a Spartan - Legendary, be We're Mythic; Spartan Mythic Team.
Mythic Actual / Mythic 1
Post to everyone who complains about Reach instead of shutting up and playing something else. http://initiativedesignz.webs.com/HaloReachStuff/Fixn.jpg

This sounds rather redundant & pointless- what you are describing bassically are like- new medals or rules to win, or ways to get extra in game points. Doubt it will happen- wouldn't want it to. But since I'm not an -blam!- I wish your idea luck. ((maybe they will make an achievment for getting all the new medals in one match- & name the acheivment after you or your GT Homeboy, I think that'd be sweet.

Hey Jackass.. maybe if you knew how to read you couldve saved us and yourself time from reading/writing that post. LIKE I SAID.. ONCE AGAIN.. They wouldnt/couldnt call them achievements.. Call them "objectives" or whatever they want.. they wouldnt be "unlocked," and they wouldnt be worth any gamerscore. SO THERE

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

That would be awesome! Id like to play a game of big team battle that didnt end before someone got a killtacular, or maybe just five overkills.

There could also be an object (weapons, vehicles etc) based trigger system, the team that steals all of the levels warthogs and keeps them inside a zone for about 30 sek wins, Vehicle King of the Hill!
If this "trigger system" (you should patent/trademark it!) acknowledged every object that one could insert on the map (via Forge), one could make all sorts of awesome missions. Here's an example:

First you tag the objects you want the gametype to feature in the "objects sub meny" (There should however be some default settings), then you choose what you want the players to do (in another sub meny).

For example, the sentinels that fly above Isolation, the team that first shoots down 20 of them wins. Think of the possibilities!

EDIT: I think I completely misunderstood your entire OP, I though you meant a trigger system that could detect other things then just time/ kills etc. Sorry.
What you meant -if I got it right this time- is an internal system where you as a players have the ability to choose what to do in order to get somekind of achievement. Im not to exited about that.

Sangheili Eminence, want to join? Message me through XBL or through b.net.

Personally I think that's useless. When I saw trigger I thought you meant buttons like opening doors. Bungie could do that but just too much to integrate into the game plus there's really no need for it.

  • 07.14.2009 2:54 PM PDT

Theres no need for anything in the game.. its put in the game to make it a unique playing experience that no other game offers. This idea is offered in no other game. It would provide a unique gameplay that would allow for Halo to branch off in a different direction than just the gametypes that are currently offered.... which havent changed much over the years.. Yeah they offer new GT's like infection, VIP, Juggernaut, etc.. but how often are those used in MM? Never.. or hardly ever.

  • 07.15.2009 12:09 PM PDT

Achievement gameplay would give a unique experience to the MM I think. Think 20 minute games with no score keeper. Just huge 20 v 20 matches with achievement based goals.

In Halo 3, when setting up a custom game type, you can already set how many points you get for kills, as well as for other things such as deaths and various medals. By setting points for kills to "0" and points for various medals to however much you want them to count for, you can get a basic version of what you're suggesting, am I correct?

Warning: You may find that my, or someone else's opinion does not comply with yours. Side effects of disagreement may include (but are not limited to): flaming, irrational behavior, broken keyboards, and/or nervous sweats. If you experience any of these symptoms refrain from communicating with others until the symptoms have subsided.

Yeah calling the "Objectives" Achievements is kind of confusing. Basically your suggesting a new game type that scores specific objectives. Like, for example, getting three head shots in a row scores you 5 points.

Put it that way and I love it.

Well I don't know about achievements, but awards like splatter or killing spree might work.

Rather than achievments what about custom medals?
I think merging gametypes would be quite helpful, like merging infection with VIP objectives, or assault, just to make maps have more of an objective in infection or whatver.
Or maybe VIP with assault, having to get the VIP into the enemy bunker, after planting a bomb in the main gate.

Call them what you want.. achievements best describes what Im talking about. They arent unlockable or provide gamerscore, just checked off of a trigger system checklist.

Well since it's about a year until Reach is released. The game is pretty much set in stone. They just have to fix glitches, add scenery, and advertise.
