We all know that Halo 3 performs a lot better when it's not installed to your hard drive. Bungie said that they made Halo 3 with installing to a hard drive not in consideration. Well now we're in the post-NXE era.

So... will ODST perform faster if you install it to your HDD?

What about the Halo 3 Multiplayer Disc - will that perform better installed or not installed to the hard drive?

If someone from Bungie could answer this, that would be great. But right now, we can just speculate. =)

Hey, I'm no Bungie employee but I can answer your questions.

The Campaign and Firefight, or "ODST", disc will perform better when installed to your HDD. The second Multplayer disc still shouldn't be installed to your HDD -- because it's essentially the same as Halo 3.

Bungie had a bit on this subject in one of their recent Weekly Update's.

This question have alredy been confirmed, the halo 3 odst will perform faster when installed, but they recommend not to install the halo 3 multiplayer disc.

What is the benefit of installing a game onto your hard drive then? I thought it said on the Halo3 box "optimised for hard drive" or something like that...

Installing a game to your hard drive will make it load faster, won't damage your disc from much spinning, and means your X-Box will run quieter.

This only applies to games released after the NXE, as they are optimised for HDD download, which means they are designed to run faster from the HDD. Halo 3, being well before the NXE, will not run faster from the Hard Drive due to the way it loads information.

If it does say "optimised for Hard Drive" on the box, chances are it means the game will run better if you have a Hard Drive compared to on an Arcade X-Box (without Hard Drive) again due to the way the game loads it's information.

The first disk of ODST (Campaign and Firefight) will be optimised for installation to the Hard Drive, as it's released after the NXE. However, the Halo 3 Multiplayer on the second disc is an exact copy of the original game, and hence probably not optimised to be installed to the HDD.

All this is based on stuff that I've read and the way I've interpreted it, so likely wrong in places. Hope it helps though!
