Okay, bare with me here. When you do backwards time travel, one of two things could happen in theory. One: You would replace your other self, causing him to not exist. Two: You would be there with your other self. Both are in theory. Now, if we were to go by theory Two, then MC would be able to take place in the events of Halo: Reach without altering MC in Halo: CE. But, if theory One were true, the events of Halo: CE and further would not be void like some people think. They would just exist in another universe.

Now, as you all recall, in Terminator 2, a T-800 was sent back in time to fulfill a mission that has no relevancy to this subject matter. Just by going back in time, the T-800 may have changed many things. But the big thing, was when they had 'stopped' Judgment Day (Actually, it was only postponed, but nonetheless, it was intended to end JD).

My theory is that MC winds up back in time (probably before we saw the planet [Reach] in the Legendary ending) and is convinced that he can save Reach from Doomsday. That the events of Halo CE - 3 while have happened still in MC's life, there would be no need for it to happen. He could stop it.
