Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

99% of the suggestions you people are putting out Halo:Reach are all so uncreative and insignificant. Most of them could be added in an update or a new disk on the Halo 3 engine. I can't believe how many people there are that just want the same old thing, with a few upgrades and perks.

How about an open world concept?

How about flying large ships?

How about ordering armies?

How about multiplayer PvP campaign missions?

How about experience upgrades? Not just unlocking new armor, but real upgrades in guns and armor?

How about epic battles with bots, consisting of 50-100 units?

How about an MMO concept?

Do you really want Halo 3.5? If you are not tired of the same old gameplay and just want some new stories, weapons, characters, and vehicles then lets have Bungie give you some updates.

I want to really explore the Halo universe. If they are making a whole new game engine, why not make a much different game. Still FPS...but with some radical sweet changes.

Get creative people. You can make new maps forever in Forge, and you can play the same old Halo with small changes for the rest of your life. Don't you want something big?

We stand here and fight!
Any enemy that stands in our way we will grind them into dust, and continue our march to glorious salvation. We fight...till the last man. Never give up....never.

I think i'd be cool if you could unlock new things for weapons like scopes, barrels, things like that...upgrade your internal software for like better software mechanics like visor screening...like night vision stuff like that would be cool. or flying pelicans, or like a whole MMO world where people command whole ships like the pillar of autum and each person can pick a job on the ship, like ship commander...jet pilots and aircraft engineers... etc man that'd be super cool, and you could pick what side you wanted to be on

That's what I'm talking about.

What about PvP coop campaign levels. I made it up, think about it. You are playing as an elite with your buddies playing a campign mission against a group of spartans who are playing the same mission with different objectives.

Working out the details would meticulous to say the least, but at least it would be something different.

YANKEE OSCAR UNIFORM ROMEO ECHO - ALPHA NOVEMBER - INDIA DELTA INDIA OSCAR TANGO - SIERRA OSCAR - SIERRA TANGO FOXTROT UNIFORM!!!! -Me

Thats not Halo though.... if they wanted the customizable guns and stuff they could have done that in Halo 3, but then it would just be another one of those CoD like games. As for MMO are you retarded? That would contradict all that Halo is. You're so called radical ideas aren't based on halo at all they are based on other games, and if you want to have those things go play those games, because halo isn't that and it never should be. I'm sick of people wanting to have all games the same, if they were then there would be no point to the word "games" it would just be one game. If you want a creative idea first base it off halo then expand don't base it off other games because halo isn't like other games that is what makes it so great. It's unique.

And what do you mean by "you people" are you insinuating that being black makes me less creative and more conservative. hmm?!!!

 • 07.02.2009 3:10 PM PDT

Here are some of my ideas.
Campaign -
A battle scarring system - Through out the campaign your armour gets damaged from bullets, fire, plasma, Mud, and weather.
Descisions - Being able to make descisions that affect how the mission plays out and its difficulty.
Different perspective endings - The ending from someone elses view, this depends on what you did to complete the final mission and campaign.
Longer campaign - Longer than Halo 2 and 3, maybe as long as Halo CE or longer.
Pelican missions - Missions that require you to pilot a pelican, here is my idea for one - Your being dropped from space in a pelican, something happens to the pilot and you have to fly it to Reach and each time you got hit it was harder to control and eventually you would enter a Crash mode were is was almost impossible to control but you had to land as safe as possible and save the marines for the misson to come.
Create your Spartan for begining - Being able to customize his/her armour, colour, name, Spartan number, Prefere weapon to start with (on begining mission and missions where your at a UNSC base) , Specialtys (Your spartan is better at something than other spartans).
Huge battles against covenant - Large base battles, Space battles, zero gravity stuff.

Matchmaking and customs -
Big maps
flyable pelicans and phantoms
Underwater and zero-gravity maps
Maybe Brutes

Forge -
Start from scratch canvas
Fires
Water, trees and rocks
Destroyed veichles/Cars
Glassed battlefields
Craters

Ha, nice.

Well, if were going in no holds barred, then let me suggest this (sure something similar has been done before, but I figure its worth a try.):

Why not build Reach around a constant play model (I'll explain in a minute) where the entire game is one gigantic level, that changes dynamically as the game progresses. This would mean that instead of separate campaign levels the game would only progress in story based on when the player meets certain criteria.

For example, they go talk to a certain general before Reach is attacked by the covenant or some other cinematic event, and suddenly covenant ships pop out of slipspace around the planet, but if the player doesn't talk to the general they can run around and drive warthogs all over the planet for hours. This is the open world concept I'm talking about, the player can free roam around the planet or a ship or something until he activates key pieces of the story by playing through them. As soon as the ships start attacking Reach, for example, instead of running around and racing warthogs against friends they find themselves surrounded by covenant ground troops (and, of course, plenty of ammo). They can continue in this state until they choose to play through another key piece of the story. This is similar to what Bungie has chosen to do with ODST, just instead of running around the same city to flashbacks each objective they complete radically changes the play environment.

The player could choose to start the game over at any separate checkpoint that they unlock, meaning they can still race warthogs if they choose or run around fighting covenant.

Another radical change I propose for campaign (and perhaps a special type of multiplayer) would be to allow the player a variable level of control for almost any aspect of the game. I am not talking about customization or more player models or something, I refer to control over how they fight their battles and everything.

Imagine you are a high ranking spartan on one of a few human ships to arrive at Reach while it is under attack (say spartan 259 or something). You are presented with a few choices.

Your first option is to stay aboard the cruiser and help direct the space and ground forces against the covenant, not sure exactly the easiest way to manage this while still maintaining the halo feel, but I certainly think it would be awesome to control one of those holo tables you see during the ODST preview, by directing AI (or even players, getting to this) against the covenant, RTS style. Maybe you can fight off borders and such too, or run back and forth on your ship assisting in repairing while under fire.

Another option would be to take a squad of soldiers and take the fight to the surface. You would get to select a load out, choose your method of insertion (pelicans, drop pods anyone?) and head feet first into hell. Once on the ground you would receive support (either AI or a buddy) from the spacecraft battling in orbit. Requesting a MAC strike on an enemy position would be sick, but so would sitting in the command chair and deciding to grant it. The ground soldiers would fight with the support of your friends in orbit, and maybe even the vehicular support of bombers flying overhead, controlled by more of your friends.

The third choice is to take the fight into space, whether you choose to pilot that Longsword you've been eying or you want to crash straight into their ship and gut it from the inside, battlefront style. I think this is pretty self explanatory, so I'll leave it to your imaginations.

Now remember, because the campaign can be advanced by the player, they will want other things to do during the lulls in combat. Depending on if you just want to hang around the ship,
pulling levers and breaking things or run around in a firing range, or customize yourself a hundred different weapon variants is up to you.

Basically what I am proposing can be seen somewhat similar to Battlefront in certain aspects, but still radically different. The fronts on land, space and air can all be played at once, for each battle. Depending on which place the player is playing from, things change considerably. You can either act as a support pilot of some sort, waiting for orders from a commander who just sits about and maybe fights off the occasional raid, or run around on the ground in the thick of things, hoping the general in orbit didn't get killed on the aformentioned raid, because if so, your on your own.

I apologize for any errors in the post, I am a tad busy atm and cant proofread it

How about experience upgrades? Not just unlocking new armor, but real upgrades in guns and armor?
That would not work for halo at all. It would ruin it. Halo is so good because it is balanced. That word is something that MOST other games are beggining to remove by giving people a choice of weapons.

Halo relies on having same weapon starts and finding the weapons from the map. Unlike being able to spawn in with a 2x power BR with a 17x scope and explosive napalm rounds. And then lower ranks (people who havent played as much) being able to spawn with a pistol that has some paint on it.

Thats why the only unlockable thing should be things that are only visual and make no difference to the actual gameplay such as armour variants and possibly armour camo schemes.

How about an open world concept?
I thought of this originally but I developed this idea into my REACH script in standard FPS form. I originally wanted to be able to traverse the entire unglassed region, but it would simply be too large.

How about flying large ships? How large? I would like to fly a Pelican like this in campaign, but not in MP.

How about ordering armies?No.

How about multiplayer PvP campaign missions? That would be great.

How about experience upgrades? Not just unlocking new armor, but real upgrades in guns and armor? That would be horrible. Halo has always been about balance; you start on even footing and fight over key points and weapons on the map to come out victorious.

How about epic battles with bots, consisting of 50-100 units? As long as that's not in MM, hell yeah.

How about an MMO concept?Nah, I'm all for a Halo MMO, but not for REACH. I want REACH to be canon, and an MMO isnt canon.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

The irony in the OP is that all of those ideas he listed was allready brought up.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Creative is my strong point. It would be cool if Halo Reach got a few RPG elements such as open world gameplay and an inventory menu. This way, you could have a limit on grenades still, but have your own grenades for example instead of 2 of each, you could mix it up a little, having 2 plasma grenades, 3 frag granes 1 flame grenade and 2 spike grenades. It would also be cool if you could get upgrades for your weapons and armor at the Reach armory. Since the entire planet was glassed, so would the armory, so Bungie wouldn't need to worry about it ever being mentioned before.

Also mixing up animations, different animations each time for a certain event such as vehicle boarding. This will make boarding and other actions much more interesting. Also include animations for pressing switches and other actions you never actually saw your character doing in the previous Halo games. I want a human character, not some stiff robot-like human.

More ambient sounds, less soundtrack. No offense to Marty, he does a great job in composing the soundtracks, but it was all soundtrack in Halo 3, never giving me any moments of silence, time to walk alone, in the woods, hearing the birds calling, the trees sway in the breeze, and distant enemy activity. This has an incredible effect on the immersion, so it's definitely Bungie should consider doing. Of course include soundtrack for cinematics and stuff, but don't over-do it.

Another change would be putting gears on the human vehicles such as the Mongoose and Warthog. It's always been three speeds in Halo, reverse, stop and forward. I'd like to see my character changing gear as he's driving, and watching the vehicle pick up speed. Also add some effects into the game for when you get to a certain speed.

Weapon discharge types is something we also need to see. Wouldn't it be great to fire bursts from your Assault Rifle, or single shots from your Battle Rifle? It would completely change the game and take it to a whole new level.

Multiplayer bots are also something that's needed. Whenever I'm in a custom game, I can never get the right amount of players, there's always one short. I'm not exactly a big fan of inviting random people, so I just wait until someone comes online, which hardly ever happens. If I had bots, this wouldn't be a problem, I could just simply add a bot to the team who is one guy short.

Implementing stealth elements is something I've always wanted since I first played the sleeping Grunts part of Assault on the Control Room on the first Halo. Distracting enemies, leading them into traps, diverting their squads so you can easily pick them off. From setting off car alarms to attract enemies attention to quiet knife kills.

Select your own zoom level using the d-pad. I always get tired of 2x being too far away and 10x being too close. Can't Bungie put in the ability to change to 3x, 4x, 5x and so on? It would make things more interesting, plus there would be more unique styles of sniping.

Different missions for campaign! With Halo 3 it was always the same thing, shoot this squad, get here, shoot these guys, get here, etc, etc. Why can't they be a little more imaginative with missions, such as being on the back of the Pelican, defending it against Covenant air attacks. Or maybe the same thing but on a Warthog. Even better, an assassination mission where you are ordered to infiltrate enemy territory and take out a leader by stealth, then get out.

I'll add some more ideas when I think of them, but I really hope Reach changes a lot. With Halo 3 I felt like it wasn't 3, but 2.5, because there was hardly any change in gameplay, which is the main grade A disappointment.

Honestly I prefer a sequel to be a .5 rather than a hole reworked game. Halo 2 should have been Halo 1.5, I think it was too different from the original. New game modes, weapons, vehicles, campaign and multiplayer maps and I'm happy. I don't really like any game series becoming something too different. If I wanted a massively different experience I would simply try a new game series.

its not closed minded. Its halo, a series that has had 3 previous titles of extremely similar gameplay. Why would the fourth game me much different, Bungie would be -blam!--ing retarded if they changed the core gameplay of the halo series to something way different, because then it wouldnt be halo anymore. Its not closed minded, its realistic.

But I like Halo the the way it is

 • 07.02.2009 6:06 PM PDT

Reach Ideas:

Huge Battlefields:
I do want some levels to have huge war-like battlefields and you have to advance and push enemies back. Like a 5 square km battlefield with 500+ infantry and artillery.

Possible Natal use:
I don't mean like stand up point a gun kind of thing, but I think there could be some hand gestures or voice recognition for like ordering a squad, calling an air strike or a vehicle drop off.

Commands:
Linking to my previous idea, you should be able to command troops and air strikes ect. For example if you yelled out "Get Down" your Marine/Spartan/ODST squad would crouch and find the closest cover and with a quick hand gesture they would again follow you. Or you could call in an air strike or vehicle drop-off by saying something like "Spartan - (tag) to command we need one air strike/warthog/scorpion ASAP"

Upgradable Weapons/Armor:
I would definitely not put this in multiplayer, but in campaign what if you could customise your squad with different equipment like if you were going recon you could deck out all your weapons with silencers and (low quality like in Ghosts of Onyx)invisible armor with weaker shields keeping you off the radar.

Multiplayer Campaign:
Maybe you could have like twenty people playing campaign and each controls a squad, not like MAG, but a squad of Natal-controlled computers. Each squad could have a different objective, but say you have completed your objective you could help out another squad or you need another squad to complete their objective before you can complete yours. e.g. Delta squad must first deactivate the plasma shield surrounding the Covenant base before you can escort the Wolverine (Halo Wars) into position to take out the buildings. Also I think that if you or your squad die the rest of the army must improvise and you come back at the end of the battle, like if the wolverine and the squad that was defending/escorting it were killed another squad would have to plant a bomb in the enemy base.

Base: Their should also be bases where you can customise your equipment and discuss tactics with other squad captains, while the covenant are doing the same thing.
