Here is my idea for a Versus Campaign mode in Halo Reach. It would be whatever the UNSC coop limit is versus an equal amount of players on the Covenant side. One side would play as the UNSC and the other side as the Covenant. Cutscenes and boss fights would be disabled.
The UNSC would be exactly as they are in normal Coop. They would each have one life.
The Covenant would be a little different. The players would fly around in ghost cam, when the get near a Covenant enemy they can become them by pressing a button. Everytime a Covenant player dies they can simply select another enemy to play as. The players could be any Covenant enemy present in the level. Each enemy would have its own strength and weaknesses. The player would be able to use unique strategies they think of to defeat the UNSC.
The UNSC would play until they die scoring points for each kill. When all the UNSC are dead the level resets and the players switch to the oposite side.
The scoring would be FFA. The winners would be the top half of the players with the highest scores. This mode could even have matchmaking with ranks.
EDIT:I rewrote it. It sounds more like Left 4 Dead survival mode than Perfect Dark 64 counter-op now.
