We need something like in Far Cry 2. Exactly what I was thinking. Far Cry's map creation editor is really fun.

The reason Forge is so appreciated is because it is simple and doesn't take too much time to make a playable map. Far Cry's editors are the exact opposite.

I agree we need another "outside of gamplay" forge option, but keep the gamplay forge for minor tweeks

its a lot of work man

I really hope bungie considers this, it would make forging a lot more easier and efficient

Avatar was awesome! If there is to be a Halo movie, make sure James Cameron gets the job!

I think that that sort of thing would be a poor decision. Sure, create anything but part of the fun is using the default map to your advantage. It would take too long to download and upload so that is a major problem straight away.

On the brighter side, I think that making "hard to do things", like geomerging, easier. That's all I would like to see.

I don't think that I would like a full editor with elevation and all that jazz. It would make it too time consuming for the majority of the community.

Actually, on Doom Builder, I can make maps in 5 minutes that take 5 hours of time in Forge.

It really depends. Would it be CAD-like, like my favorite Marathon editor, or would it be like GECK? I have trouble with programs like GECK, but Obed (the Marathon 2 editor) I have near no problems. I prefer being there when placing objects, but at the same time, I wish there were ways to use different perspectives. In fact, search Spark Edit. It's a great halo ce editor, and I really dont mind it.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Halo Reach =/= Doom Builder.

An undo button would be nice.

"They let me pick... did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others you were strong and swift and brave, a natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck."

Forge changed Halo, the ability to modify the weapon and object places on maps was great. But the Community wanted more. On Last Resort the Community began trying to create whole new maps, this was not effective, however.

Bungie then released Foundry, which, again, changed the Halo experience. The ability to actually build a map from the ground up was fantastic. But even with foundry, we ran into limitations. We could only make small, interior maps. And the pieces were not designed to fit together perfectly.

Bungie followed up with Sandbox. Sandbox gave us the ability to build interior, and exterior maps, and even maps flying high above a fatal fall. The grid allowed us to organize our pieces, and the pieces fit together great. We have the best forge map we can get for Halo 3. But Forge is STILL lacking, we still don't have the control we want or need.

The issue? Forge is a gametype. Placing objects on pre-existing maps is sloppy, and takes too much time. We need something better.

The answer? Remove the gametype, remove the moniter, remove all that jazz. Create an actually map creation program.

I want a gridded screen, birds-eye view. I want to be able to accurately create every piece of geometry within the map itself. I want to MAKE the buildings, and the mountains, and the lakes, and rivers. I want textures to work with. And very diverse object placement (I want to snap objects onto the grid, and place them without that "grab" stuff. Just pick the object, pick where it goes, press A. Even if you keep traditional forge for weapon placement, that would be fine.

But to build a map from the ground up, we need something more like Doom Builder. Which features a full map creator, complete with the ability to create Elevators, Doors, Crushers, any function we need, AND a 3D mode, so you can go right in to the map, and edit smaller things with more precisions.. A more advanced version of this program is also being used for a new Community game called Project Vega that is being worked on by the Skulltag (Doom) Community.

Even on a second disk, this would give players what they need to have endless fun with Halo Reach. Please share your thoughts...

I agree..

But maybe to please both parties ( The forge guys and the map editor guys) Maybe there should be a option to how you want to make your map. Advanced view ( The map editor with the same list as forge same system, just better placement and view)

Then there is a normal view ( Plain forge)

CAD would be a good solution (yes I know how to use it), but remeber it is like a $4000 software, and would take a little bit more than out XBox 360s to run. Bungie would have to tone it down a lot if they made a program of their own.

I didn't say CAD, I said CAD-like. The program I use to build marathon maps is designed with the CAD user in mind, but is free, and it takes little programming and processing (relative to CAD).

i say forge be like map editor in far cry 2

  • 08.02.2009 6:23 PM PDT

blarg, bow chicka wow wow, boomshakalaka,

Forge should remain a gametype, but i do agree that we should be able to make buildings. i think you should still be able to edit the preset maps, but there should be a true forge which has preset scenery types but you could do the rest, like making hills, cliff or whatever you want.

P.S we should also be able to make to objects one through a grouping option, and be able to move them both.

P.P.S we should be able to edit the size of anything, like make a block five metres wide
