So, we're all aware that Master Chief has been codenamed Sierra 117 before/during Halo 3. During the Halo: Reach announcement trailer, there were references to two more "Sierras": Sierra 259 and Sierra 320. Therefore, it would follow that these represent Spartan-259 and Spartan-320. However, there were only 150 original candidates for the Spartan-II program, and only 75 that actually made it into the program. Therefore, there shouldn't be any Spartan with a service tag higher than 150... so has this been retconned? Are there new Spartan-IIs (CPO Mendez was supposed to train them, although he was transferred to the Spartan-III program)? Or is this an inconsistency? Or maybe I'm just stupid and missed an earlier cue in a game/novel?

Please, share your ideas (or tell me off if I am indeed missing something xD)

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

You do bring up a good point. But I doubt they put the Spartans codes in numerical order. John (Master Chief) was one of the first interviewed by Doctor Halsey when she was making trips around to survey the potential candidates, and he ended up being Spartan 117. I think it was just luck of the draw if you ask me.

Edit: Watch this, I saw it right after I posted in here. I think this will clear things up a little better. Linky!

That is a good idea, but all the Spartans I've come across in the books and wahtnot didn't have any service numbers/tags about 150.

And while this may not be accurate (and certainly not endorsed by Bungie) this list of the Spartans has none of them above 130.

Actually, reading farther in the article I just posted a link to, they make mention of those two Spartans as being in Class 2. Maybe Mendez was able to train more, or somebody else did?

In either case, it said in the article that this new class was conscripted and began training in 2537, and would have begun sooner, but Dr. Halsey had difficulty finding candidates within her age parameters. I followed the external link, and it pointed me to a .wav file on ilovebees, but I can't find any information that supports this information, therefore, I cannot treat any of that information as canon. So we're still open to ideas about the identities of Sierra-259 and Sierra-320.

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

It's a wiki site. That much is just speculation.

I'm not sure why the Spartans in the trailer have higher numbers though. We're not told of any Spartans over a certain number except the Spartan III's. Their call signs however are different than the SII's.

I said that it's a Wiki site and not necessarily endorsed by Bungie, or considered canon.

And there was a Spartan that was a higher number that featured as a guest character in a Dead or Alive game, but again, that's not a canon character.

Why don't you level 50's out there, when you finally decide to apply for colleges...why don't you put that you were a level 50 on your application. And put it on your job resume, too. See how much it matters, and how much people care.

i think you may be right im going to expand on that.

there were more then 150 original candidate children. but only 150 were chosen then even less made it to the end.

so maybe there were more children as candidates and only 150 of them made it into the program but they had already been designated as a number before they were chosen/

The book mentioned that CPO Mendez had to train a second group of spartans when John and the other spartans worked on project MJOLNIR, or Sierra 259 = Sierra II 59 = Malcolm 059

No. There were 150 candidates but 75 of them were good enough to be Spartans, and when they did that genetic thing 30-and-something of them survived.

There is a possibility of at max 999 candidates for the Spartan-II program. From that 999, they were cut down to only 150, most likely keeping their original number designations. Those 75 were then reduced by half once again due to budget and training limitations. Spartans -259 and -320 are NOT Spartan-III's.

The was never a second class of Spartan-II's.

Malcolm-059 =/= Sierra 259. He is Sierra 059.

perhaps siera's over 150 could be codenames for the Spartans AIs. Lol, sounds pretty stupid but yaah never know.

  • 07.03.2009 3:51 AM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

There is no spartan II class II's,

Sierra can stand for something other than spartan as well.

  • 07.03.2009 4:56 AM PDT

In my opinion, it's clearly Spartan III's, but...

It's Halo we're talking about here. Anything can happen.

CPO Mendez was mentioned as training the second class of Spartan-IIs, although he did indeed move on to the Spartan-IIIs after moving to active duty once more. After that point we hear no further mention of the second class of Spartan-IIs...

...unless you are the most hardcore/-blam!- Halo fan, and did the ilovebees AR game. The AI Melissa, a central character in ilovebees, is a 'Smart' AI, and was therefore created using a human brain. In her case, the brain of someone called Yasmine Zaman. If you delve into Yasmine's backstory, you'll find she was born in 2531. However, she died at a very young age - only fourteen. The reason?

She washed out of the Spartan-II, Class II augmentation process.

Therefore, we have confirmation of the Class II Spartan-IIs.

iLOVE BEES aint CANON!!!!! bungie have made that very very clear. it was a viral marketing scheme to entice halo fans into getting the next game, and to keep them guessing, give something a mystery and suddenly you raise the profile of it....

My personall opinion is that, yes there was a spartan ii's class ii, However it isnt mentioned in the books, because just like the spartan 3's were kept secret to halsay for a long time, they may have been kept secret from her and ackerson for a number of reasons, and someone else trained them.....

as for the NOVA-1 part of that video someone posted, thats most likely the Nova Bomb, admiral whitcomb told everyone about, he said, if i remember rightly, "our new nova bomb, we were hoping that those covenant ******** would take it back to their home world and blow themselves up with it...........

this would probably lead to the class 2's taking the bomb on a covenant ship, and taking it to sanghelios or some other covenant homeworld, where they would blow it up..... then after the war is over, when the arbiter returns home to see his world in dust, war starts again!!!!, my wishful thinking

but it could also be a prowler class UNSC vessel, becuase only prowler class vessels, or scout ship vessels ever had 4 letter names, look it up
