Now when I first heard that Bungie was considering using Project Natal with Halo Reach I was pretty pissed. But then I took a step back and looked at the situation and realised that it could work really well. Not like a total body control, standing up, move as you move game, but the ability to recognise hand gestures and voice command.
Imagine this. A battlefield about 3 square km and a hundred or so units that would be split up into squads of 5 or 10. Now I know what you would be thinking and no not like MAG, but it would be a multiplayer campaign or co-op mode where one person controls a NPC squad. Now with Natal, so the control scheme isn't cluttered, imagine if you could order your squad with hand gestures and voice. Imagine as a wraith came out of nowhere you say "Get to Cover" and your men suddenly crouch and move to a near-by boulder or trench. So you don't have any rockets or lasers so what can you do? Call for assistance. You say something like, "Spartan (Your tag e.g. J62) to Base/HQ we need one air/artillery strike immediately." Then you just put a marker on the target and say fire. This could also be used for vehicle and ammunition dropoffs. And the hand gestures could also include things like hold fire, hold position, go silent, open fire, on me and advance. (these could also be voice command)
And each member of your squad could have a name or tag so you could individually order them. e.g. Mark, take out that Ghost.
For any of this to be possible Bungie would obviously need to beef up the AI significantly.
What are your theories and thoughts about the possibility of Project Natal? Do you think it should be used? And if so, How?
